@Sabata11792@kbin.social avatar

It still comes up on google when you need to figure out an obscure issue and is usually the best answer, although I'm trying to limit it. Other than that, I deleted my account and am long gone.

Schnitzeltier, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

Only if a Google search points me to an answer to a specific problem.

M_Reimer, in I'm the author of an April Fool's Internet Standard, AMA

The number one question I would ask about HTTP would be: Why was the “Referer” header initially added and why wasn’t it removed from standard to this day. In my opinion the server, I’m going to, should never know where I came from.

Two9A,

I’ve just done some quick browsing to see if there’s a written-down motivation for Referer existing, and there’s this on the Wikipedia: “Many blogs publish referrer information in order to link back to people who are linking to them, and hence broaden the conversation.”

Which I guess makes sense, in the context of the original use of HTTP as an academic publishing protocol, but it’s gained cruft and nefariousness since wider adoption came about.

There are good arguments for stripping Referer from the standard, and yours is one of the most cogent; if Referer is still a thing in another 30 years, I’d be surprised.

PlasmaK,

I hope that user agent will be gone too. It does nothing except demand that you install chrome or spy on you

Supermariofan67,

There are far more robust methods of fingerprinting to spy on users anyway (adding up all the details of screen size, available fonts, language, os, etc, etc), so I don’t think removing the user agent would have much impact in reducing fingerprinting alone. It’s also useful as a quick and simple way to check the type of device, os, or browser the user is on and serve the correct content (download link for one’s OS) or block troublesome clients (broken bots)

PlasmaK,

(adding up all the details of screen size, available fonts, language, os, etc, etc),

not if you just simply turn off javascript.

privacyn, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I don’t have Apollo anymore so I don’t go to Reddit anymore from mobile, but i use it from time to time on desktop

lemmyshmemmy, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

Nope

Chozo, in Okay, how do I block all this meme stuff?

I've just blocked them, myself. This keeps them out of /all searches for me. Most of them, I don't even understand, anyway. This shit makes me feel old, lmao

mavedustaine, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I honestly still do, though not on my phone.

And more often than not if I’m on my PC I’m working/gaming.

So really, I still go to reddit on my PC, but most of my usage used to be on the phone, now here I am on lemmy, on my phone, taking a shit.

In essence Lemmy has replaced Reddit for me where it really matters.

I, too, call upon lemmy now for the important tasks like shitting.

effingjoe, in What's the first dream you remember having?
@effingjoe@kbin.social avatar

I was very young, 4 or 5, and I was taking a nap in the afternoon. In my dream my mom told me she would only ever make spaghetti and meatballs for dinner for the rest of my life. I liked spaghetti and meatballs, but I didn't want to eat only that forever. My grandmother woke me up because I was crying in my sleep.

This is my earliest memory.

For being so specific, is missing a lot of options. MtDew, rockstar/monster/red bull, squirt/fresca, etc.

I think it should be more generalized, like orange soda, cola, etc, or just sodas, energy drinks, etc.

TheButtonJustSpins,

Sweet tea!

Lotsen, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?
@Lotsen@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Sometimes for fixes and stuff but not much anyomore

elbowdrop, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

Just to check some niche subreddits. Browser only, no sign in. And once I find what I need on the lemmyverse I’m all done.

collegefurtrader, in Okay, how do I block all this meme stuff?

Simply place your phone, tablet, and any other devices in the microwave for 10 seconds, this will remove all the memes.

kindenough, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?
@kindenough@kbin.social avatar

Only if my search engine gives a result for technical advice I need.

Jakdracula, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?
@Jakdracula@lemmy.world avatar

Nope. Left as soon as Apollo ended.
Only went back to transfer all my subscriptions using the Voyager tool - found under settings “migrate subreddits”. On June 29 I used a different tool to delete all my posts on Reddit. I’m leaving my empty account there as a form of protest.

Saturdaycat, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?
@Saturdaycat@kbin.social avatar

I stopped entirely. When I draw a fanart of something I'll post it, but I haven't drawn any fanart recently.
