yuunikki, in what's something you watched because the poster made it look awesome and it turned out really lame?

Roots Search

Roots Search (1986)

RedCanasta,

Ok yea I would watch that too

yuunikki,

It’s why I did watch it, and it ended up being really lame.

Prefix,

To be fair, that poster does look pretty awesome.

Speculater, in Lemmy, what are your "missed flight" stories?
@Speculater@lemmy.world avatar

Traveling out of Dulles I arrived with 60 minutes to spare by train. Couldn’t get checked in, talked to the airline desk. My flight was out of Reagan. That was a costly mistake.

Lewistrick, in What event did you miss that saved your life

Closest I got is taking one train later than the train that crashed into a person. That one train later didn’t go though.

We are finally living in accord with nature without having to forsake our innate desire for knowledge and progress.

Everything changed when the fire nation attacked

Gormadt, in What does an ideal world look like to you?
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

My vision of an ideal world is a hard one to answer but does have a few key aspects to it.

Where getting sick or hurt doesn’t financially ruin someone.

Where people can seek mental health care without destroying their lives.

Where homelessness is a thing of the past.

Where no one goes hungry.

Where seeking to improve yourself via higher education doesn’t cost money.

Where school funding is based on needs rather than location.

Where people are judged by the value of their character rather than the color of their skin, who they love, or the money in their bank account.

My ideal world isn’t some far off fantasy, my ideal world is something that we can achieve in our lifetimes if we try.

Prefix,

I want to live in that world.

Kolanaki, in What's your favorite restaurant chain?
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I miss Quiznos.

I don’t know if they are completely out of business, but they sure as shit don’t operate anywhere within 100 miles of where I live anymore.

Their ribeye steakhouse sub was the best fucking thing ever.

Literally the only chain I would recommend. Everything else I love is mom&pop local dives and taco trucks.

revlayle,

IIRC, Company Man on YouTube had a video on the rise and fall of Quiznos

ShunkW, in Lemmy, what are your "missed flight" stories?

Fell asleep waiting on a delayed red eye flight to LA. No one bothered to wake me for 3 hours… Sitting at the gate for a 5am flight that was delayed 2 hours and change.

It’s my fault, but someone could have woken me I feel like when they started calling for the boarding.

Lemmesee, in Lemmy, what are your "missed flight" stories?

I’m a dual national and my name is different in each passport. Bought the plane ticket with the name written in one of the passports but then I forgot it at home 🤦‍♂️

I had the other one on me but since the name in it was different they didn’t let me on the plane…

Ever since then I keep both passports very close to each other with a rubber band!

Prefix, in What anime world would you rather not live in?

Any of the worlds from Studio Ghibli films.

Noedel,

Why?

Prefix,

Wow I completely misread the title. I thought it was what worlds would you RATHER live in! 🤦‍♂️

Studio Ghibli worlds are lovely so I’d definitely want to live in them :)

Noedel,

I hoped you misread that otherwise you have issues haha

Saving this thread for writing inspiration.

I’ve always dreamed of being the last human on earth. There are signs of civilization yet it is all overgrown and in the process of being taken in by nature. The climate and ecosystem has rebalanced itself from what man did. There’s no else to annoy or judge me, and i can do whatever i please without caring for how i am perceived. I can finally be my true self. Eventually i, too, die, and nature simply forgets as mankind’s influence fades.

dylanmorgan, in What does an ideal world look like to you?

All people guaranteed a baseline lifestyle. Housing, food, clean water, healthcare, electricity, internet. Everyone contributes to maintaining infrastructure in some way, would probably require 10-20 hours a week. Beyond that, people free to do what they want. Garden, make art, invent new things, whatever.

Papercrane, in Lemmy, what are your "missed flight" stories?

I only missed a flight once and i felt pretty stupid at the time as well. I took the metro to the airport and then I realized that I forgot some medicine.

I barely had time so I headed back but I messed up pretty badly because my medicine was the whole time in my backpack I just didn’t find it or was so sure that I forgot it.

Then I obviously missed my plane since I didnt get there 3 hours earlier. I missed one day in the beautiful city of Rome, but it wasn’t that bad. I think I was high at that time

Track_Shovel, in What would happen if we put a giant glass tinted dome over each city?
@Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net avatar

Ever fry an ant under a magnifying glass? That.

intensely_human,

Oh gosh I’ve always wanted to be at the focal point of something!

Admetus,

And seen through the social lens.

vd1n, in What does an ideal world look like to you?

No humans. Not even their skeletons… Even the history of humanity complete wiped out like they never existed.

Sign me the fuck up! Collectively, we really are a blight on Earth.

CanadaPlus,

Eh. Somebody else is going to evolve intelligence then. And honestly being a wild animal sucks pretty hard too.
