LadyAutumn, in Are there any women-centric communities?

There are a couple lesbian communities. I havent seen anything like 2x or thegirlsurvivalguide yet though. None show up in the community browser either. Someone should start one.

BendyLemmy, in How does Lemmy work with search engines?
@BendyLemmy@lemmy.ml avatar

I actually added a custom search engine to Firefox… so I can search something on Lemmy. I have the keyword ‘LW’ for Lemmy.World search right now (because Lemmy.ml was offline a while).

Basically, do the Lemmy search (search term ssss) then edit/replace ssss > %s and copy the entire link. https://lemmy.world/search/q/%s/type/All/sort/TopAll/listing_type/All/community_id/0/creator_id/0/page/1

Then using ‘add custom search engine’ extension on Firefox, you add it.

Lanthanae, in What are some great AI tools that aren't ChatGPT?
@Lanthanae@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

phind.com

It’s AI Bing search but more specific to technical questions and it has become the cornerstone of my daily workflow as a software developer.

yogthos, in why does Reddit want us to use the official app so badly?
@yogthos@lemmy.ml avatar

Reddit wants to show ads and to collect user data.

AboveYou5280, in Why made Lemmy so popular the past few days? Wrong answers only!

I can’t tell if this is a serious question or not, but it’s pretty complicated to fully explain. The short of the long of it is that now that MySpace has started to use retina verification for their 2FA, people are upset that it’s an invasion of privacy due to the reflective nature of human ball eyes. Since Lemmy only requires a password for mod accounts, it’s an easier platform for people to use to share embedded auto play music and glittery gifs. I don’t think it’ll last though, word on the street is that Digg is going to be removing all authentication methods soon, so I expect a majority of the userbase will move there

matthieu_xyz, in Are we using Lemmy correctly?
@matthieu_xyz@piaille.fr avatar

@_finger_
We can have both generic instances and instances around a particular topic.

We already have a few lemmy dedicated to a particular community like latte.isnot.coffee and startrek.website

OttoVonNoob, in Will you stay at Lemmy and the Fediverse, if Reddit steps back?

Spez also talked about a $1 monthly charge, is clearly not trustworthy, wants to add Facebook style ads and looks like a stand in from the country club from ground hog day.... I think I'll pop in for my niche sub reddits but I'm going to make a conscious effort to not feed the monster baby going forward.

alternativeninja, in Will you stay at Lemmy and the Fediverse, if Reddit steps back?
@alternativeninja@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

If your girlfriend/boyfriend hit you with a baseball bat but then said sorry didn't realize you would leave me I wont hit you again. Would you go back?

r4tzt4r, in for the Reddit refugees, do you also feel a bit heartbroken?

A little bit. What I hate is losing the communities related to my hobbies. Reddit is/was very very helpful for me. Finding new music, finding new games, discussing movies and TV, learning about weird movies or cult shows, sharing my stuff to people that find it cool… It was 11 years of that. I needed that site, so many very helpful posts. I hope whatever comes next is better. For now I’m here, waiting to see what happens.

VerbTheNoun95, in Will you stay at Lemmy and the Fediverse, if Reddit steps back?

Reddit burning its bridge with Apollo’s dev probably sealed the deal for me. Beyond handling things poorly, most of my time on Reddit was on my phone via Apollo. I highly doubt Christian ever works with Reddit again even if they did completely pull everything back.

Things have been pretty good here, I don’t see any reason not to stick around, and there isn’t anything to make me go back. I’ll probably check hockey news on Reddit occasionally, but I can’t see myself being active.

phoenixz, in For everyone new to Lemmy, how are you finding the experience?

Same here. I do feel and see that a LOT of work will be required to get lemmy where it needs to be but something tells me that these are the interesting days for Lemmy!

Dandylion, in Lemmy, what do you call users of Lemmy?

Lemmons

Che_Donkey, in What are some of the "small things" you appreciate about Lemmy over Reddit?
@Che_Donkey@lemmy.ml avatar

Feels more like old school forums instead of conglomorated shitpost: meme response, ironic response, [deleted] spam response bot response

Lizardonis, in For everyone new to Lemmy, how are you finding the experience?

I was new to Reddit (3 weeks of activity), and switching to Lemmy is a bit confusing. But one evening is enough to learn the basics, I hope. Let’s keep it rolling. :)

Ultra980, in Lemmy, what do you call users of Lemmy?

I saw someone suggest lemons lol
