neko, in For those that are, how are you keeping track of tropical weather this year?

If you're on Android and already know how to interpret raw radar maps, wX

SeaJ, in Why is youtube recommending conservative "talking points" to me?

Your interests have a strong correlation with people on the right aside from maybe react videos.

But even if your interested were not so strongly correlated with the right, you would probably still get right wing ads or videos suggested. They garner the highest engagement because it is often outrage porn. Google gets their money that way. My subscriptions are to let wing political channels, science, and solar channels but I still get a decent amount of PragerU and Matt Walsh ads. Reporting then does not stop them from popping up either.

Yeah big tech loves to throw dumb stuff your way to piss you off and keep you engaged, even if you’ve never shown an interest before.

I fell in love with Low the first time I heard “Venus.”

I heard ‘Congregation’ in the show Devs (loved it), and was surprised I never listened to them before. Went back and listened to the whole catalog… several times over. It’s the best airplane music.

DarnHyena, (edited ) in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

I’ve always found myself having trouble getting to work out if I didn’t have some sort of tangible goal to achieve in the process. Like with walking, I need a destination to reach, like maybe going to pick up lunch or groceries. Same for other forms of body work outs, I’ve found vr games can be handy for giving me something to get lost in while still working out, like this one squatting game called hotsquats, or some of those rhythm games

Just doing a treadmill while staring at a tv doesn’t keep my brain as engaged.

wispydust, in How do you enjoy listening to digital content? Speakers? Headphones? Earbuds?

I often swap between three:

  • a convenient pair (wireless - Galaxy Buds Pro)
  • a good sounding pair (IEM with a DAC - Moondrop Aria)
  • a sleeping pair (small and cheap - Moondrop Quarks)
yoz, in I'm being harassed by mosquitoes, how do i kill them all?

Have you considered killing yourself ?

Dinodicchellathicc,

Are you from my other post lol?

Either DT990s or cheap Edifier “studio monitors” connected to my audio interface when at home, or M50XBT outside

SeaJ, in What's the point of buying new phones every years?

I finally dropped my S10e too many times. I tried switching to my backup phone which was a Pixel 2 but it is pretty limited in terms of bands for my carrier. So I bought a Pixel 6a. I would love a Zenfone 9 but it is a tad pricey.

Would I have upgraded of my phone hadn’t died? Probably. It stopped receiving security updates. The battery was starting to not last all day. There were some things it was starting to get slow on. The camera was okay in good lighting but shit in bad lighting.

Newer phones are not actually selling all that well. Still good but there aren’t really likes it the door on release day like there used to be. People are keeping their phones for a lot longer now or opting for midrange ones.

MythicWolf,

I drop my phone so often that how easy or hard it is to replace the screen on my own and how cheap a replacement is factors onto deciding to buy a phone.

Nonameuser678, in Which one are you?
@Nonameuser678@aussie.zone avatar

As a non-american it blows my mind that you have so many fast food companies.

MakunaHatata,

What really amazes me is that, that’s not all of them

BruceTwarzen,

I was pretty sure most of them were made up. I hope this crap never makes it over here

Ziggurat,

What blows my mind is that it’s all large franchise. We have tons of independant selling various form of fast-food. Stuff like Sandwiches, Pizza, kebap and more. But I can’t think about only 2-3 large chain, basically we have Mc-Donalds, Quick, and that’s it ? or may-be burger kind did a comeback last years, not even sure…

GingeyBook,

To be fair, where I’m at in the south we have these. Still a lot but most are very regional

Studio monitors (nothing too expensive, something I bought years ago), small USB-powered laptop speakers.

Xariphon, in What genres of music do Lemmites enjoy?

Power Metal:
Powerwolf
Gloryhammer
Alestorm
Sabaton
Windrose

Pagan music:
Emerald Rose
Tyr

And then sea shanties, folk music, Irish (rebel and otherwise), labor/protest music, and the occasional bouts of pure randomness.

Right now I cannot get enough of Miracle of Sound. Dude just checks every box there is for me. It's like if every other kind of music I listen to got gene-spliced into one guy.

In no particular order other stuff:
Blackmore's Night
Clamavi de Profundis
Omnia
Faun

Pibrac, (edited )

Gloryhammer!

dundun DOUBLE dundun WIZARD

Sad for all the drama though but now we have two “gloryhammer” with Angus McSix.

Xariphon,

I entirely missed this. What happened?

Pibrac, (edited )

Oh damn. Quick recap:

The band fired Thomas Winkler (lead singer) aka Angus. No reason was given but his poor live performance after the pandemic was rumored.

Then some old chat was leaked that put to light that James (bassist aka hootsman) and Chris (song writer / former keyboardist aka Zargotrax) were racist/mysoginic trying to take advantage of their status to fuck fans.

Then some allegation of abuse against James were made.

At the end of it all Christ wrote a PR excuse letter. Gloryhammer got a new lead singer (Sozos Michael). Thomas went on his way to make a new band (Angus McSix).

So we got two album this year with gloryhammer style.

loudwire.com/alleged-leaked-chat-gloryhammer-miso… if you want to see the chat.

Xariphon,

Goddamn. I thought people saying "Angus McSix" were making some kind of joke about whoever replaced Thomas.

Sucks that his bandmates turned out to be that kind of people, but I'll definitely look into his new project.

Thanks for the recap!

Pibrac,

Just be careful there is two song order. The one of the track listing (the bad one) and the lore one (the good one).

For whatever reason they decided not to put the song in the lore order so the story makes no sense if you listen to the album in the track listening order.

Xariphon,

That's fuckin' ridiculous.

astropenguin5,

I have the exact same list for power metal lol, only thing I’d add is twilight force.

I also like chiptune stuff, a great artist that kinda crosses over chiptune and metal is rainbowdragoneyes, he has done remixes of gloryhammer and alestorm, and has a whole EP of remixed and OC pirate metal chiptune.

Xariphon,

I swear I've heard of twilight force but for the life of me I can't remember what they sound like. I'll have to look them up and get reacquainted.

astropenguin5,

Some of their more prominent characteristics are high, soaring vocals, kinda constantly epic sounding, and pretty cheesy (which is a good thing)

I like them a lot

Xariphon,

So a little bit Falconer, a little bit DragonForce?

kakes, in Does anyone else struggle with silence, particularly when trying to sleep?

As a teen, I needed complete silence/darkness to sleep well. Then I met my now-wife, who needed a TV on to sleep well.
It took a while, but we eventually compromised on a fan for background noise.

LachlanUnchained,

I prefer seperate rooms haha

awwsom, in How do you enjoy listening to digital content? Speakers? Headphones? Earbuds?

I hate in ear headphones so I mostly use Over ear headphones and mostly wired if no travel is involved.

mlc894, in What genres of music do Lemmites enjoy?

Mostly Irish folk (with a healthy infusion of Irish rebel music mixed in)
