Wahots, in Why is youtube recommending conservative "talking points" to me?
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

Clear your history! I limit a lot of what Google collects. If I see videos trending in that direction, I clear youtube and start fresh.

baru,

You can have Google clear things automatically so it’ll only keep things for a certain amount of months.

Without any history Google often shows pretty extreme videos, so in my experience the lack of any history is not good.

zos_kia,

I think it might be the opposite. If extreme content is kind of “default” when the algorithm doesn’t know what to give you, them starving it off history might push it into that default more often. I have a very used YouTube account with a metric ton of history and honestly I very rarely see that kind of content. (From Europe though so it might be different)

Wahots,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

What I’ll do is clear history, then watch something to seed it as a baseline. Eg, one video on low fi music, and another one on how an 18th century naval ship was built. Or perhaps they’ve just captured all my data secretly and know that extremist videos perform poorly with me?

taldennz, in What's the point of buying new phones every years?

I have a Note 10+

With the way it’s measuring up today for performance and battery life, if it were going to keep getting OS updates and security updates it’d keep being a great phone for another couple of years yet.

…And compared to some I know, I’m updating frequently.

I really do wish they’d squeeze another 1-2 OS updates into it’s life-span. But at this rate I’ll still be replacing it with whatever its up-to-date peer is in another year or so…

…and re-purposing this one - it’s still awesome (awesomer if it allowed root without losing updates and pay-services)

OutdoorDining, in what was your first video game/system you played or remember playing?

I had one of these bootleg Atari systems because we were poor and these were assembled locally.

Then I made enough money to buy a Mega Drive

syklone, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

These people addicted to running tho… 👀

IDK how they do it. I hate running. I have had extended periods in my life where I exercised 6 times a week, but I never enjoyed it.

levi,

For me it’s deeply relaxing. You basically get into full machine-mode and stop thinking, just flow forward, for a few moments everything in the world is not important anymore. Feels like active meditation.

kill_dash_nine,

That’s what si used to love about running when I did it; t was time to put my thoughts together and just mentally prepare for my day, as I would run at like 5:30 am In the summer to avoid heat.

I switched the cycling due to it feeling much better on my body but cycling is a much more active workout of needing to actually pay attention but I do feel like I enjoy cycling much more. More to see and a strong sense of accomplishment plus it burns s lot of calories which doesn’t hurt.

syklone,

I actually enjoy cycling if I’m not doing it for exercising. More like joy riding. I find it relaxing the same way the post you’re commenting on said. But running… Never. 🙃

syklone,

I wish I felt the same.

FermatsLastAccount, in what was your first video game/system you played or remember playing?

I think it was either Mario Party on the GameCube or Crash Bandicoot on the PS2. The first one I remember well would have to be Pokémon Firered in the GBA SP.

I haven’t gotten a new phone in the last 3 years and I don’t think that I will get one before the iPhone 15 comes out. I’m well satisfied with my iPhone 13 mini.

The fact that most newly released phones don’t go that small annoys me so I’ll keep it until I find something worth while or of similar size.

nerdria,

My dream is that Apple will release a mini every 3 or 4 years just for me. I currently have a 13 mini too, and I reckon a 16 mini would be perfect.

Otherwise I might end up with an Asus Zenfone, even though it is bigger than a mini.

@-hypnotoad-@kbin.social avatar

I would look into Asus' software upgrade policy. From what I understand it's pretty abysmal; something to consider when you're someone who holds onto phones for more than 2 years. Google and Samsung have much longer support cycles.

Jaywarbs,

I love my 13 mini! Yeah I’m the same with wanting smaller phones. I had the iPhone 7, then waited until the SE 2020 model, and now the 13 mini. Hopefully they keep releasing mini models.

Jumpman on the Commodore 64.

crossfadedragon,

we had a c64 in my family at one point too. ghetto blaster/street beat, pipeland, dart tower, street surfer, bc quest for tires [you play as a caveman riding around standing on a wheel], one man and his droid. i played those.

patach, in Liftoff. Lemmy app. Do you like the way it works now?

I was going to say that I loved it, but right now it’s no longer showing me posts on my subscribed account on lemmy.world.

So I’m currently on my backup app, voyager.

SecretPancake, in what was your first video game/system you played or remember playing?

First game might be Lemmings on this huge i486 computer.

First console played was the NES. First console owned was a Game Boy.

AlexWIWA, in I'm being harassed by mosquitoes, how do i kill them all?

Nuclear weapons might work

syklone, in What's the point of buying new phones every years?

For me it’s just an unhealthy fascination. Tech is the one place where consumerism got it’s dirty claws in me. We didn’t have a computer in my household until I was 15 and it was a super slow and old PC my older brother bought for $500. This was back in 1999. I eventually became obsessed with finding the best value for money mobile devices and bought way too many phones, laptops and computers.

Oregon Trail on Apple IIGS. I was in elementary school, and those particular Apple computers were already outdated by the time we got a hold of them, but we were from a poor county, and by god it was some great fun. We would have little competitions to see who could get the furthest without having their whole party die.

crossfadedragon,

our computer lab at school was half ibm pcs and the rest were apples. i dont remember which apple but i think probably the same as you played.

played a lot of isle of dr quandry, word muncher, treasure math storm, gizmos and gadgets. i think oregon trail too, but the dos/windows one.

when it would rain during recess the teachers would let us play otherwise we only went to the lab one day a week.

there was animation/art program all of us used to mess around with. cant remember what it was called.

crossfadedragon,
