busturn, in do you guys shop on places like aliexpress/Temu and if you do what items have pleasantly surprised you?

Keep in mind that a lot of your local marketplace sellers just order rebadged stuff from alibaba. I’ve found literally the same electronics i’ve bought locally on aliexpress for like half the price.

yuunikki,

Is alibaba a different site than aliexpress?

busturn,

Alibaba is basically just wholesale aliexpress, most sellers have a minimum order quantity and have clear pricing scale depending on your order.

yuunikki,

So pretty much the Sam’s club of aliexpress?

Logical, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

Since I started using Lemmy, not much. I am mostly on here now.

Kolanaki, in What movie did you rewatch most often?
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I watched Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon on VHS so much, it wore out the tape.

nefonous, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I completely switched to lemmy for my random scrolling. But the main community for a game is still there so sometimes I keep lurking that subreddit only (exclusively from pc)

chk232, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

Logged out, sometimes I use rif to check on some subreddits.

Not going to delete my 9 year old account because if I do that they will keep all the comments.

Smiling_Tut, in Downvotes = “I disagree” or “this is bad and you should feel bad”?

Downvote = other people probably should ignore this post. It isn’t likely to do any good for them. Upvote = hey, everybody! Look at this!

JasSmith, in How do you cheer yourself up after a rough day? Or a rough year?

I have a plan for what I consider to be my happy place: retirement. Whenever I feel down I look at my plan and consider what small step I could take to get even closer. It helps me step back from the immediate feelings and focus on the longer term goal. No one is going to help me reach my goals. Only I can do that. Accepting this and seeing progress is so satisfyingly empowering.

Hackers and Grosse Pointe Blank. Watched it almost every night to go to bed for years on VHS.

Grosse Point Blank is not my favourite film of all time. But it’s the only one I’ve ever been able to honestly give a perfect 10/10 score.

The story, the cast, the script, the pacing, obviously the soundtrack, there is just not a single flaw I can find.

Isn't Grosse Pointe Blank from around '98 or '99?
That's when VHS was on its' very last legs. I think my first DVD player was from around 2001, by that time the graph line of DVD rising and VHS falling had already intersected, and this was in Mexico, I'm not sure when other parts of the world made the transition, say in the US, Europe or Japan it happened earlier.

dubble_deee,

Hackers is a great choice, it’s so cheesy but it just draws you in and completely suspends your beliefs. Every character is likeable and the lines are so well delivered, man now I got to rewatch it. Terminator 2, hackers, and Pokemon 1st gen probably made more SDEs than any stem outreach program.

DubiousInterests, in In which game did you spend the most hours?

Arma 3 and that is mostly “Escape From” as it’s an easy drop in game mode. Although I think I still have way more hours in Europa Universalis 4 but that isn’t counted for… reasons.

Also I swear my hours used to be way bigger years ago. I am not crazy right? Like only 170+ hours in TF2 I have definitely played that way more.

manwithabox, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

Grumpy Old Men:)

Morphior, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

No, I uninstalled Boost and Infinity about a month ago and haven’t looked back.

opux030, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I open the app out of muscle memory a few times a day, infinity still works somehow, but most of my subs have been closed/dead now anyway so not really.

rockyrikoko, in What is the most unhelpful advice you have received?

Pray about it

MrsDoyle,

Some of the churches where I live have a big banner outside that says, “Try praying”. It strikes me as comically desperate. Imagine a car dealership with a “Try driving” banner, a restaurant with “Try eating”.

Meditation is better advice. By which I mean doing the exercises to approach grounding oneself in the present, sensing and feeling things from that perspective, instead of the YESTERDAY and TOMORROW clashing storms inside our minds.
But one can't just start meditating one day - "from zero to sixty", so to speak - and expect immediate results. It's a discipline, like brushing your teeth every day.

NotYourSocialWorker,

This, as a general advice, is just as bad as praying unless you actually know the person.

hansdampf, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

since baconreader no longer works i stopped using reddit. only time i visited was because of a duckduckgo search result

ConditionOverload, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

I love rewatching “monster” movies. Like The Mummy, Deep Blue Sea, and Lake Placid.
