Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I used to check the front page at least once every day, and occassionally check specific subreddits. Now I don’t look at reddit unless theres some drama, like mods getting purged, then I’d go there and enjoy the drama. Occasionally there will be questions that only reddit has the answer to so I have to reluctantly use it. I got my uBlock Origin ready to kill all the ads. That shitty website will not get a cent out of me.

What about you? Do you still use reddit?

onehellofausername,

If I do a Google search and a Reddit thread comes up with relevant info or discussion, I’ll check it out but I have completely stopped browsing and interacting with it.

Spaceinv8er,

This is the only time I “use” Reddit now myself.

CthulhuOnIce,

Boost was the only thing that made it tolerable, I couldn’t use the official reddit app even if I wanted to

lunaticneko,

I go there just to read about the state of affairs regarding Reddit itself.

s20,

I go there through Tedit sometimes when info I need comes up in a search, but I haven’t logged in or browsed the site directly since the API protest blackout.

Weird how I seem to have more free time now. Must be a coincidence.

malloc,

Only in read only mode.

boonhet,

Within the last month or so, I’ve stumbled upon reddit links a total of ~3 times. It’s still damn useful for looking up info and the best links on Google are often reddit. Ublock origin was enabled of course.

another_lemming,

Reddit is my place to check on news about the ongoing war. For some reason it wasn’t banned in r*ssia and is availiable without vpns. Lots of exiles from other places joined subreddits there.

I don’t feel like this blogosphere would move into fediverse. Occasionally, reddit became the right place for this.

mdmachine,

I was a joey user. But already had my lemme already set up for this day. I might use reddit just to track the events of the Ukraine war and some stable diffusion stuff. But most of that discord and telegram can be used instead.

Maybe occasionally subredditdrama to see the meltdowns happening. For now I’m trying to see which lemmy app I like best. Right now connect seems to be the one I am using most.

Kritoke,

Not completely, there are still some niche, non-technical communities that are probably never going to switch. I hope at some point they do, but still go once in a while to check. I don’t go daily like I used to, mostly do lemmy daily since the apps are getting so good now.

Martenz05,

I have not gone to Reddit just to “use reddit” since discovering lemm.ee a couple weeks ago. Sometimes still end up on specific threads through search results, especially for obscure stuff on older video games.

freeman,

I have pretty much stopped.

It’s not usable on my phone and now searches are basically buggered with a number of subreddits being nsfw. So for example I was searching something specific to pop_os and can’t view the thread. Just closed it. Will block Reddit returns in Kagi now most likely.

I think there may have been a day or two where I looked at it for a few minutes in the browser at work over the past couple of weeks.

jerdle_lemmy,

Yeah, Lemmy doesn’t have everyone over from Reddit.

Pika,
@Pika@lemmy.world avatar

I blocked it at the router, so nowadays I don’t use it unless there’s an article I really need to access

kucing,

I still do a site:reddit.com google search occasionally. It’s getting harder tho.

Obligatory fuck u/spez

DolphLundgren,

I’ve found you can just add “ reddit” to a query and get the same result. I believe - but I’m trying to not do that. Haven’t browser Reddit in 2 weeks. Lemmy is good enough at the moment.

eating3645,

The advantage of using site: is that you can specify which subreddit you want results from

BeakEm420,

TIL! Thanks for that.

30isthenew29,

Can you explain how?

baduhai,

site:reddit.com/r/subreddit

eating3645,

Yup!

Shiggles,

Depends, if it’s anything monetizable like a review the first 3-5 results will be ads instead of reddit unless you do site:

30isthenew29,

Fuck u/spez

BeakEm420,

Yes I do still use reddit, although only to check specific Subreddits. When it comes to mindlessly scrolling through content, however, the Fediverse has replaced Reddit 100% of the time.
