Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I used to check the front page at least once every day, and occassionally check specific subreddits. Now I don’t look at reddit unless theres some drama, like mods getting purged, then I’d go there and enjoy the drama. Occasionally there will be questions that only reddit has the answer to so I have to reluctantly use it. I got my uBlock Origin ready to kill all the ads. That shitty website will not get a cent out of me.

What about you? Do you still use reddit?

I think its been almost a month, since I intentionally went to Reddit. More than 3 weeks anyway.

echoplex21,

I’ve noticed I haven’t really been enjoying my time on Reddit anymore. Since the shutdown of Apollo, I’ve found simple tasks like search and going to my favorite subreddits a chore.

Discussions inside of the posts also have deteriorated and I feel like I’m seeing way more AI generated content on askreddit and aita etc. Bots have also run rampant on subreddits like interestingasfuck.

Lemmy is reminding me of Reddit from 2010 . Lots of memes, smaller communities with great discussions. Also love it being connected to Mastodon.

What I’ve realized is I’ve just ended up spending more time outside of any of these apps, which might have ended up being a blessing.

Nah, I created a Lemmy account at the start of June (at least the Jerboa installation date says that) and uninstalled boost a few days later. Only checked in on Reddit from time to time with libreddit, to have a look at the John Oliver party.

I deleted or mass-edited all my comments and sent an GDPR request. Only thing left after that is the account deletion.

Didn’t want to give them any traffic anymore, so I avoided everything about it.

nope

Thorny_Thicket,

For porn yeah but not for anything else. Been away for as long as my lemmy account is old

gunnm,

Still active on some niche communities that they don’t want to leave Reddit and only using it on desktop.

Once or twice a week I check my local subreddit and a couple of best of subs.

ShoePaste,
@ShoePaste@lemmy.ml avatar

yes, but only for specific content. my city and state have a very active subs that just hasn’t really taken off on Lemmy yet. there’s a lot of news from both that i can’t get anywhere else. similarly i’m pretty active on r/dmacademy and there just isn’t a community on lemmy that i’ve found that is similar yet. i think when those communities take off here i’ll finally cut the cord on reddit.

Ditto. These smaller locality subs are unlikely to take off on lemmy IMO. I think reddit would have to shut down before people would look for an alternative.

Yeah, probably right unfortunately

Caboose20,

I lurk with an ad blocker. I do still have an account and am logged in so I can vote and save some posts.

doppelgangmember,

Of course not!!

<.< >.>

Chainweasel,

There’s a few things that I follow that do have communities here, but little to no engagement in those communities. I’ll occasionally get on to look at those subreddits for updates, but I don’t have an account anymore so I don’t log in and I don’t engage with the communities. I also use RES so they don’t get any of my advertising revenue. Someone had linked a read only Reddit client before but I can’t remember what it was, If anyone does remember let me know so I can switch to that.

Use reddit? I still have my work account for when Google sends me there.

Visit Reddit? No.

I still hang out mostly on Reddit. As much as the site’s gone downhill, I’m mostly active on the fandom-specific subs, which don’t have nearly as much of a presence on Lemmy. The general meme communities have been flourishing, but the fandom communities are basically ghost towns, and even those that see a bare minimum of activity are far from enough to pop up in my feed. Right now, /r/yugioh has ten times as many online users as /c/yugioh has subscribers period - and that’s one of the more active niche communities I follow! I’ll still be keeping an eye on Lemmy and post to both sites when I can, but we’ve got a lot more growing to do before I’m ready to finally ditch Reddit.

Also, Reddit has the hentai. The specific fandom subs at least have small barely-active communities here but their NSFW counterparts are totally nonexistent.

jmp242,

Given it feels like Reddit is getting rid of NSFW content (API changes on that too) - maybe try finding other locations for that content? I’m honestly surprised how many people used reddit for that kind of content. Never would have occurred to me lol.

Nope, I haven’t been there even once since switching over to Lemmy
