I think the reasons I’m more inclined to interact on Lemmy/Mastodon are because, firstly, the fact that we were all attracted to the fediverse means we instantly have something in common in addition to whatever subject matter our chosen instances and communities focus on.
Secondly, the communities are a lot smaller—for now. This could be a temporary thing if Reddit continues hammering nails into its own coffin, or the fediverse might be niche enough that it never becomes as massive. But right now, posting a comment on Reddit feels like shouting into the void whereas Lemmy is like tossing a message in a bottle into the ocean. Neither are great for communicating, which I have always felt is the biggest problem with this format compared to classic message boards; but at least the message in a bottle is more likely to wash up on a shore where it might be seen.
I certainly do. Most social media algorithms feed you content that it thinks will generate interactions. Lemmy does not do that which results in whatever you decide to post having more meaning because there’s no stupid and/or manipulative machine deciding wheter your post is or isn’t worth seeing
I use: 1 copy in my primary SSD on my laptop 1 copy in my secondary SSD on same laptop, which autosyncs to: 1 copy in OneDrive family plan 1 copy on an external SSD
Hell yes. I remember watching that during the premiere in theaters many years ago, and it was so emotional and powerful. Fucking love these movies so much.
I think he’s referring to the last battle where everyone basically agrees that they are all doomed unless Frodo is still alive and has the ring so they decide since all hope is lost, they’ll put all their men on the front line in the hope of buying Frodo an opportunity to get to Mt Doom. But I think most of them only go along with it because they know they are pretty much gonna die either way.
“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”
You do realise that people who are awake during the night are of equal importance, who’s gonna run those power plants and radio stations and petrol service stations and police forces and whatever else? If they shut off during the night, there’d be chaos. At least a chaos that most folks won’t see because they’re asleep or something.
They’re unapologetically weird, fiercely in love with each other, they support and love their children unconditionally, they’re brutally honest with each other, including openly showing affection without giving a damn about what others may think of them. They’re one of the best (fictional) examples of caring parents and lovers, and I will die on that hill.
I have this vague memory of an interview where this was being talked about and how showing them as kind, loving people with real emotions was somewhat controversial. If anyone knows what I am talking about please chime in.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. And as far as I can tell Einstein never said it but it’s always attributed to Einstein
I make around 60k and I barely can afford to survive. And I have a decent rent (1000$), but car payments, insurance, phone, internet and food all got more expensive. I can’t even afford a vacation anymore ! I barely make it and I think of those single parents trying to get by with less and it breaks my heart. If I a single man with no kids have to skip meals once in a while I can only imagine what those poor kids have to go through.
I cant remember if it’s Facebook messenger or WhatsApp as I don’t use either that often, but one of them has a button on the keyboard to send like animated images or something and it’s so easy to hit that button and then select an image but the problem is that it doesn’t add it to a message which you then have to send, it just sends it straight away. I’ve sent some really inappropriate things to people I hardly know as a result, and I don’t feel like the attempt at an explanation helps.
Edit to add: Bert literally stops the movie at one point to fourth-wall how hopeless everything looks. Ernie reassures him by asking what kind of movie would have a sad ending. Bert immediately replies Titanic.
