Because I use j and L for back and forwards 10 seconds, so I might as well use k for pause and resume given its in the middle. Also often space will just scroll down the page, like how up and down arrows sometimes do volume and sometimes scroll.
Way to often the player is not in focus (mostly after alt tabbing) and space bar scrolls me one page down. Now I have to scroll up again and klick into the picture. Infuriates me just thinking about it.
Kremlin politicians, mass russian and communist propaganda and mass migration out of the country… And somehow there is a huge job market, inflation isn’t out of control and we’ve got one of the better 5G coverages in the EU… Bulgaria’s a weird country.
It’s hard to say where the country is headed, but unfortunately a big part of the population seems to believe the Kremlin politicians and that communism will somehow magically fix the country and remove inflation and that somehow we’ll be better off without NATO, which according to them forced us to give all or military equipment to Ukraine (ignoring the fact that literally all the military equipment Bulgaria has given to Ukraine is USSR era stuff that won’t stand a chance against modern militaries, that NATO conveniently protects it’s from)… That being said the kremlins haven’t won the elections yet, so we’ll see what happens in the future…
I’ve not seen the movie or read the book but I do know the plot. While the two had different endings I don’t think either of them were happy were they?
If you've never watched Fun to Imagine, check it out sometime. It's just an hour of him sitting in a chair answering questions/sharing his thoughts and I wish there were hours more like it. It's so great.
This question reminded me of the Dr Stone anime. The premise is that a wave turns everyone into marble, several thousands years later a young scientist is unfrozen and uses science to restore society to its former state.
Also, I wonder what the effects of long term exposure to EMP would be to life on earth. Since most neurological systems use electromagnetic waves maybe they are impacted?
Another interesting question would be if there would be a way to work around the EMP. For example, would a Faraday cage work to allow electronics to work inside it? Or maybe electronics are improved to work under the effect of EMP? Like how the CPUs have bit correction algorithms because of random bit flips that occur due to solar flares.
Last but not least, in such a situation my plan would be to go as far away as possible, since there will be food shortages, being in an area where you can forage for food or hunt animals would be a priority. Then, I would probably die eating something poisonous. If I survive long enough to set up a farm, I would probably survive the next 10 years or so until I die of old age at 35 the new average life expectancy.
If given enough notice to store water and fill 3 good coolers with ice, longer than 2 weeks - we lost power for 2 weeks with a hurricane once and had an electric well pump so no water either. Had set up a system with one cooler allowed to be opened, the others not often. By 2 weeks the water that we’d filled the tub with (for washing not drinking - water with a little bit of bleach) was getting questionable.
Like you, I think the biggest issue would be people.
The world becoming anarchic (=no individual holding power/authority over any other) would be amazing. Electricity turning off might actually help challenge established power structures. I like your thinking !
I also think we tend to underestimate just how good we are, when rid of our oppressions. We’re set against one another, day after day, and we end up thinking it’s our nature. It’s not ! If electricity were to be cut suddenly and everywhere, I’m certain we would help out one another and manage well.
It should be easy to verify - open the public modlog (lemmy.world/modlog) and find a random user that has been banned recently, view their profile / comments and check if the icon shows up. If the icon really means that they are, in fact, banned, then it should show up every time.
…that being said, I’ve never seen that icon before. Are you using an app or the desktop version? Do you get a mini pop up when you hover the mouse pointer over the icon?
Hm… the only related info I can find is that it is called a “no account(s)” icon here: fontawesomeicons.com/svg/icons/no_accounts#ex-tab… …but no explanation about what exactly it means in the context of jerboa/lemmy/android.
I think the biggest issue would be food. We have loads of farmers in the area and the bike is usable. However, to many people in the area and a lot of specialized crop.
With the canned food, I guess around a month, then it’ll get challeging.
I have terabytes worth of family photos and videos going back decades. Imagine trying to find one in you email. Yikes.
Google photos backs them all up for me for a couple buck a month. Every single one is available on my phone in seconds using their creepy good search tools, without taking up any phone space. That’s good enough for me.
