Mobiuthuselah, (edited ) in What's the most unique role model you've heard that was a green flag?

Nick Offerman.

Many know him as Ron Swanson from Parks & Rec, but that’s a character. He’s a dynamic actor, a hilarious comic, eloquent author, and an outstanding woodworker. I like his honesty and pragmaticism. I enjoy the way he brings his characters to life. His writing transports me in my mind. His woodworking is inspiring to me. His comedy makes me feel seen in this human experiment. I love his laugh; he clearly likes to be goofy, much like myself. He came through my town on his American Ham comedy tour and that’s when I got a real feel for who he is as a person. He loves his wife enthusiastically. He’s a connoisseur, whether it’s words, whisk(e)y, wood, what-have-you. He’s inclusive; understanding that we’re all just individuals living our lives and wanting to do our best. You’ll find a wide swath of genders working and managing his woodshop which means a lot to me as a woodworker because it’s often a male dominated industry. I’m white, cis, male, and shoot, even southern (Appalachian) American, but I staunchly believe in accessibility and inclusiveness. The more I learn about Nick, the more I like the guy, and I’ve learned a good deal about him. I’ve had this dream for a while about reaching out to see if he’d want to go paddling with me down the oldest river in North America which starts in my area, but I’m just some guy, and he’s probably pretty busy.

YungOnions,

Why not contact him anyway? The worst that can happen is that he says no. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, as they say…

The N key on my phone keyboard. I’m constantly hitting it when I meant to hit Space. So frustrating.

Krudler,

I’ve been thinking for like 10 years that phones should have calibration functions specifically for the keyboard.

I have big hands, I am talking about palm a basketball sized hands. This makes it nearly impossible for me to ever hit the letter I think I’m hitting. Surely there’s enough computing power available now to figure this out.

For me it's "v".

Interesting_Test_814,

Also, the P and M keys when I mean to hit backspace (I use an AZERTY so the M is at the end of the second row right next to L P and backspace). It’s like aah I want to delete the last character not have more Ps and Ms thrown after it !

MrBakedBeansOnToast,

For me it’s the . In the browser on iOS. The spacebar shrinks and gives space to the . button that I then constantly hit by accident

The „unmute“ button on redgif when it then just takes me to redgif itself.

kemsat, in How long would you live if electricity for the whole world went out permanently?

There’s a book I read about this. I don’t remember the title, but it was written by some US senator or house rep, probably had a ghostwriter. It was about that, some enemy of the US, maybe it was China or Russia, detonated a bunch of nukes high in the atmosphere, causing the US’s electronics to be fried.

Assuming they did their research, the book had people survive for years, but definitely addressed how hard it would be. There was looting & rioting, the family had to eat their dog eventually, and there was a massive change in the importance of trust & community. I think it was like 3 years later that the reconstruction reached the small town, and it ended along the lines of “and then there was more work.”

It was a decent read, 7/10.

Anyone that takes time to do the little things that make us civilised: picking up someone else’s trash, putting away someone else’s shopping cart, etc. Just shows they give a fuck

One example that I like isn’t at the end of the movie but at the very beginning.

LongPigFlavor, in How is your part of the world doing?

Florida, US. We’re facing multiple crises at once; an affordability crisis, an environmental crisis, and a political crisis. Homeowners insurance rates are going up with many companies leaving the state. Car insurance rates are increasing. Rent prices, housing prices, and mortgage rates are increasing. Our state is facing multiple environmental issues such as deforestation, pollution, and invasive species. Climate change will greatly impact our state, but our governor thinks it’s woke.

HurlingDurling,

There was a tornado in Florida 2 days ago right?

I have to go with Bad Lieutenant: Port Call of New Orleans. Everything has gone to shit, the main character is addicted to drugs and spiraling. You 100% expect this movie to be a tragedy with him dying. Then completely unexpectedly everything just works out. I still can’t believe a studio let that happen, but I think I appreciate the movie because it’s so atypical.

Go rewatch the first Expendables movie. When Terry comes in with the AA12…

Israel will build some very nice Jewish beachfront colonies over the bloodstained rubble. It’s what they’ve been doing in the West Bank and Jerusalem, at least.

hperrin, in What does this icon mean?

My guess is it means you can’t log in or aren’t logged in. It could also be block user or blocked user. It’s just a crossed out person, so it could be a number of things.
