Going for tab and hit caps lock

stolid_agnostic, in What's the most unique role model you've heard that was a green flag?

I’ve never thought in terms of “green flag” but really like that concept.

I’m going to go with Levar Burton. Reading Rainbow ran for like 35 years and encouraged millions of children to read.

Thinking of star trek would gene Rodenberry’s philosophy be considered a green flag

I personally think it is

TheAlbatross,

It’s not really here or there, but when I was a young child, I saw Star Trek: The Next Generation before Reading Rainbow, so my parents had to explain how actors worked when I was baffled how the blind man was teaching me how to read.

I did love Reading Rainbow, though, and still read regularly, probably in part thanks to Levar Burton.

Man I loved the episode of reading rainbow where it showed behind the scenes of TNG

Found it

stolid_agnostic,

That’s a great story! I was…maybe…11…when STTNG came out, so I had already seen RR prior. I was super excited to see an actor I knew appear on the show.

ericbomb,

Oh that’s a great one!

He’s still doing stuff trying to get more books and reading to children.

So he’s a wonderful answer.

NeoNachtwaechter, in How long would you live if electricity for the whole world went out permanently?

I would live maybe even longer than in the current world. So much more action would help my physical condition.

I have grown up with low tech, so I know how to get along. It is just a lot less convenient.

morphballganon,

Got a plan for food, long-term?

NeoNachtwaechter,

Grows everywhere. I would go outside of the city, but I have heard about people in cities can also grow things.

The much more difficult “secret knowlege” (nobody seems to know it anymore except a few large companies) is how to store food long-term, for example through a cold winter.

morphballganon,

So you’re planning to find some empty land and then plant some crops?

NeoNachtwaechter,

That’s a possibility. I’m not exactly planning.

kSPvhmTOlwvMd7Y7E, in Who's going to pay for the reconstruction of Gaza

Israel, i bet

Just like they pay for their water and electricity bills Who else would, Egypt? Other Muslim brothers? Lol they aren’t

FunkyMonk, in greatest movie turnaround

Gurren Lagan had a movie compression of the series that is pretty much only those TURNABOUT moments of darkest just before the power creep dawn.

For me, it’s any button my dog hits when he steps on my PS5 controller while I’m watching TV. ANY button.

aturtlesdream, in What's the most unique role model you've heard that was a green flag?

Mr Dress-up, aka Ernie Coombs, in the same vein as Mr Rodgers. A national treasure in Canada who was the best role model for kids. They just released a fantastic documentary on him recently on Amazon I think

Carl Sagan was already mentioned, he’s def a favorite of mine. I’d also add Matt Mercer, everything I’ve seen of him makes it seems like he’s just a wonderful person all around.

ericbomb,

I mean I didn’t wanna out myself as a giant critter…

But it appears he has built a large and successful business with his friends while being fiercely protective of them while being welcoming and accepting to everyone.

So yeah I think he’s a food role model.

glimse,

So yeah I think he’s a food role model.

I love their new ramen show, Critical Bowl

ericbomb,

I’m not changing it cause I would watch it.

glimse,

Me, too. I don’t even play DND but I’d follow anything Matt Mercer works on. He’s a peach!

bradorsomething,

He takes the Slayer’s Cake.

NeoNachtwaechter, in What's a button you hate tapping or clicking accidentally?

That button on the left side edge of my Dell mouse.

Sucker has thrown me out of a teams meeting yesterday. Never ever used that button before. Don’t know how it’s called.

“That” and “green flag” in this instance are implicitly referring to the act of having a particular person as a role model, not the role model itself.

    English is stupid.

Reserve your ire for the abuse heaped upon “unique”, fellow pedant.

Unique means one-of-a-kind. I die a little more inside every time I see someone slaughter it with “very unique” or “most unique”.

A_Random_Idiot, in What's a button you hate tapping or clicking accidentally?

    Steam Big Picture mode.

Its right there right next to large mode, which you need to use to browse the store.

and every time, I hit big picture mode instead.

and have to sit through the stupid animation, then try to remember how to put it back in regular mode.

and I dont understand why they cant give us an option to disable big picture mode. Its only useful for a niche minority of users, let them have it without becoming a headache for the rest of us.

and make steam remember fucking window sizes and positions while you’'re at it, fucking valve. every goddamn steam update just makes the performance and usability worse.

A_Random_Idiot, in Who's going to pay for the reconstruction of Gaza

    Israel, unfortunately.

The whole point of provoking these attacks via their violent oppression is so they can retaliate against Palestine, kill masses of innocents, and build new settlements on Palestinian land when the dust clears.

Extrasvhx9he, in How long would you live if electricity for the whole world went out permanently?

I’d probably die because of looters so a month to 2 would be my guess

    kalkulat,
    @kalkulat@lemmy.world avatar

Good point. Having a *really * good stash isn’t a bad idea. BUT then there’s the rubber hoses. To avoid the looters, then, means moving away from them … and not leaving tracks to the stash.

I know a couple of things about making log cabins. For someone who’s got food and my back.

This was the storyline for the old Jessica Alba show, a Dark Angel.
