morphballganon, in What's the most unique role model you've heard that was a green flag?

There’s no apostrophe in Mr. Rogers. Rogers is his name. It’s not possessive.

I don’t have an answer to your question, but it reminds me of Jim Varney (actor who played Ernest in the Ernest movies). He was a smoker, but was careful to not be photographed smoking, so any kids who looked up to him wouldn’t consequently think smoking was cool.

“If you know, you know”

CarlsIII,

My thoughts when I see this are “well I don’t so you’re wasting my time”

Jumuta, in yesterday I posted a funny picture, and without any message, it got deleted from my profile.. how censure work here?

I think it’s pretty obvious why that was removed, the mods and hosters are paying volunteers and shouldn’t have to tell dumbasses that their offensive post is offensive

ooli,

I assure you the image was funny. But now, you cant judge for yourself, sorry

DreamySweet, in yesterday I posted a funny picture, and without any message, it got deleted from my profile.. how censure work here?

It seems like the only one who censured you was yourself?

ooli,

I didnt

DreamySweet,
@DreamySweet@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

For information, it was a pic of a funny man draped in an ukrainian flag with david star in the middle doing a nazy salute… so yeah not the most tastefull

I thought that was like borderline censuring.

ooli,

Censuring what?

DreamySweet,
@DreamySweet@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Yourself, for what you posted.

ooli,

No. It was a picture. Yesterday. That pic is nowhere in my profile anymore. I didnt delete it. I did nothing, received no message, it is ,just nowhere anymore. I wonder what happend. Is there a moderator doing something, is there a downvote rule on lemmy… what is happening

DreamySweet,
@DreamySweet@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I am very confused. Did someone else send the text in the spoiler to you?

ooli,

I put the spoiler, to not offend anyone. Since the pic was removed, I assume people got offended by it.

Sounds like censure but not censoring :P

AbaixoDeCao, in yesterday I posted a funny picture, and without any message, it got deleted from my profile.. how censure work here?

Glad I left Lemmy.World sometime ago…

ooli,

I would gladly change, but… I mean… the whole system has less content than yahoo’s homepage. As long as lemmy.world is the most activ I’m stuck there, I guess

TheAlbatross, in What's the most unique role model you've heard that was a green flag?

My boyfriend said he sees David Byrne as a role model.

A clearly anxious man who finds it within him to love freely while being his own goofy self and speaking his mind.

I found that really appealing and now we dance along while singing his songs in the living room.

ericbomb,

He also is the founder of some non profits!

So he’s a really good one.

I’m in Argentina. Help…me. Although we have been in trouble since I’ve been alive so there’s that P.S.: Don’t send prayers, send money lmao

Everythingispenguins,

Sadly I have no money and based on how well they work for me my prayers are pretty worthless too. 😂

otter, in What's the most unique role model you've heard that was a green flag?

This doesn’t really answer the question, but sometimes it’s not so much who the role model is but what action they want to model.

Maybe it was wanting to get better at controlling emotions, being great at communicating during a breakup, or a general attitude towards problems that come up.

When I see someone admire / want to emulate the good actions of others, that’s a green flag.

intensely_human, in Are those rust spots?

Whatever it is you can get rid of it with some steel wool

Tom_bishop, in Who's going to pay for the reconstruction of Gaza

Israel is gonna pay for the for the reconstruction willingly & proudly. They’ve been doing it for more than 70 years. All the Palestinians’ apartment buildings that was destroyed for the past 70 years, Israel rebuild it, and then the Jews moves into the new area. Rinse and repeat until no more Palestine

paddirn, in How is your part of the world doing?

Well, we’re not in Gaza, so we’ve got that going for us at least.

RepulsiveDog4415, in At what point is violence on a large scale justified?

My understanding of history is that most improvements in living standarts have been bought by violence or the threat of it against the ruling class (yes, i guess you could call me a commie).

Though i also feel like it is a bit of a dice roll. Kinda like rerolling a dice and hoping you get a higher number. The higher your starting number the higher the chance you end up with a lower number. Does that make sense to anyone or have i completely detached from reality here? :D

nyar,

Not detached. No rights have ever been won under capitalism through a peace movement alone.

No, not the US Civil Rights Movement.

No, not the fall off apartheid in S.A.

No, not even the independence movement in India.

All has peace movements. All also had organizations that engaged in actions of violence against their oppressors. To ignore that is ahistorical.

shinigamiookamiryuu, in At what point is violence on a large scale justified?

Violence against aggressors can be justified if you’re not escalating something to new levels, but violence against random people is never justified.

Rhoeri,
@Rhoeri@lemmy.world avatar

This is the correct answer.

clark,
@clark@midwest.social avatar

Exactly. The numerous rapes and kidnappings are absolutely not called for, nor justified, ever. These are innocent civilians being pulled into a larger conflict. That is the worst part of war - even innocent people suffer, instead of it being a private conflict between whatever groups.

nyar,

Exactly. The numerous rapes and kidnappings are absolutely not called for, nor justified, ever. These are innocent civilians settlers, many of whom are reservists in the oppressors armed forces, being pulled into a larger ongoing and extremely one-sided conflict. That is the worst part of war - even innocent people suffer, instead of it being a private conflict between whatever groups I am forced to acknowledge the ongoing support the first world has provided to an apartheid state and I don’t like being confronted with the consequences of decades of oppression.

Fixed that for you.

Everythingispenguins, in Who's going to pay for the reconstruction of Gaza

Netanyahu’s government doesn’t want there to be any reconstruction. The only thing more dangerous to them than a hard line Palestinian government is one willing to negotiate. The worse the conditions Palestinians are in the more militant they will be. This let Netanyahu justify being more aggressive.

filister,

Yes, one more cynical man would say that they kind of intentionally let the destruction and the casualties to be so high, so that they can justify the retaliation which would involve a couple of times more civilian casualties on the other side and they can use this as pretext to tighten their restrictions and increase the buffer zone or simply grab that land for themselves.

Everythingispenguins,

It doesn’t even have to be some intentional diabolic plan. There is no incentive to be a moderate in this conflict. Moderates have historically been killed by their own side. There would have been peace several times over if this was not the case. This conflict has devoled to the point that any move to the center will result in political suicide and possibly real suicide.

Togo.

We are still waiting for at least an alternance at the top of the country with the governance of a family for more than 50 years. Since 2020 and the last elections, life has getting more and more difficult for the population and you can feel the frustration in people. Opposition parties are not credible anymore and can't really lead the fight anymore. Just a minority is keeping the money of the country; it's not my words but the president's ones but he can't do anything about it because he is also a pawn in the system and can't do nothing again those who put him there.
Just tired. I can talk about a lot of things but I don't have energy for that. Seems like we are waiting for something, some are talking about revolution. It can happen when the population will say enough is enough but togolese people are too much patient and don't want to die in vain about politics. Also, the last time things got serious, it was with a lot of deaths but it brings a sort of democracy, at least some rights but now we are getting back in every right we got. We were close to changes in 2017 but the opposition parties didn't handle it well and here we are now. The system has weakened them also. They even shut the mouth of university movements and associations that fought for changes for us students.
For the future, only God knows!
