Looks like that lemmy is not so US dominated like reddit.

Still a bit over-represented vs world pop

That’s part of the appeal to the other 7.6 billion of us. It’s an international fediverse rather than a US corporate entity. Kinda like how popular forums used to have a link to other popular forums except you can also get a feed from the linked forums. Much better. Will just take time to grow. Reddit took nearly a decade to reach critical mass.

The same thing that ruined it every year of my life: Capitalism

GreatBlueHeron, in Lottery winner

Y’know, I don’t think that’s enough to make any significant change. It takes more than money - it takes generations. Nothing will change until things get so bad that the comfortable (I assume they’re comfortable if they’re not engaged) majority get involved at all levels. I’m not pessimistic…

Broke my wrist a couple days before Christmas. Right at the most painful point today. Just looking at it makes it pulse and hurt. Can’t get to a specialist till maybe tomorrow. Arrgh

cerement, in Would reverting back to tribes or city-states not be sufficient to save us from ourselves?
@cerement@slrpnk.net avatar

we can have civilization that isn’t self-destructive – instead of breaking apart into tribal groups, one factor that would have a bigger impact is to re-separate the direct connection we have between wealth and power

shinigamiookamiryuu,

What about the civilizations that currently exist that don’t have that connection but are still destructive?

bionicjoey,

the civilizations that currently exist that don’t have that connection

Like which?

shinigamiookamiryuu,

North Korea is perhaps the biggest example that comes to mind. They aren’t particularly known for anything having to do with capital (at least not in my side of things) and never had such a profound wealth-power connection as we associate with ourselves, yet they’ve been the most concerning part of the world of diplomacy for a while.

We have a Conga brand robot, we just call it “trasto” (“junk” in Spanish).

It’s not a friendly nickname, it’s a piece of junk that gets stuck everywhere.

Maxaroniandcheese, (edited ) in What's your automatic vacuum's name?

Charcot. Because it’s a Shark and it can’t vaccuum for shit on account of it’s rocker bottom.
