spittingimage, in Anyone else traumatized by The Car movie as a kid?
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

Never saw it, but my parents watched a lot of crime movies that I didn’t understand. Probably for the best. I was sort of a nervous kid.

jimmydoreisalefty, in Is society becoming more fake ?

You might want to change your social media habits?

You are right, but it maybe due to how easy the access to these small amount of people has become

Influencers/charmers were always a thing, was it not?

Maybe, but not to the extent they are today.

I don't member the exact model but I had an LG Voyager that i held onto for a long time... I did NOT want to give up my physical keyboard for the touchscreen keyboard so I held out as long as I could. If Samsung came out with a slide-out keyboard for smartphones I'd be on that shit right away.

Nokia 3220 with the cool led lights on the side lol

I used that thing until it literally fell apart, and I did not treat it gently.

Pulptastic, (edited ) in What was the last dumb phone you had before your first smartphone?

I had a predecessor of that (Samsung dual flip but no e ink buttons) that I lost while drunk. So I got the new iPhone 3g to replace it.https://clublexus.com/…/114261d1194963393-sams…

I had this one shortly before that: forums.macrumors.com/proxy.php?image=http:%2F%2Fn…

Contramuffin, in Is society becoming more fake ?

I think social media has the ability to make things impossible to ignore, things that previously people were able to ignore.

Things such as police brutality, mass shootings, for instance, probably were just as common back then as it is now. But now we’re paying attention to it. I think it’s the same thing here. People have always had a different public and personal life. It would be incredibly odd if someone didn’t. But social media is making people pay attention to the fact that there’s some people whose private lives are ugly, but who try to project a perfect public life anyways.

I think out all of the answers, this one is one of the main reasons why people might feel more fake nowadays than before.

Vlyn, in Question about Android. Is there a way to replace the system file manager on non-rooted devices?

Can’t you just install another file manager and then change the default app?

thegreekgeek,
@thegreekgeek@midwest.social avatar

Don’t think that’s an option really, the file manager is like the android version of the open file dialog in Windows now. Ever since they implimented secure app storage. Like op replied to you it’s mostly hard coded in the apps or something. It’s gonna get worse too, pretty sure android 12 made it so you can’t use a third party camera for pictures taken through other apps, and on my OP9 Pro you can’t select a alternative gallery app.

Slow,

How? There is no pop-up window with options. I think the call to the system file manager is written into the code of some applications.

Vlyn,

Ah, so even when resetting the default app there is still no popup? That sucks :-/

lemann, in What was the last dumb phone you had before your first smartphone?

Nokia 6300. Loved that thing, battery lasted all day and then some!

otp, in How would you explain Lemmy/Kbin to a Reddit person or to a social media person?

It’s like Reddit was before they started trying to monetize it and screw over the better apps. It’s probably impossible for it to get screwed up like Reddit did. Fewer users, though, for better or for worse.

malockin, in What was the last dumb phone you had before your first smartphone?
@malockin@lemmy.world avatar

A Nokia 3100 … it was the first phone I bought, and I kept it through college and beyond.

The thing was a beast :-)

128x128 pixel screen, with 12-bit RGB. No WiFi, no Bluetooth. Had some web access with WAP (no not that! “Wireless Access Protocol”). It did have a camera module though /rofl

And best of all, the battery lasted a week!

pewgar_seemsimandroid, in What first name do you hate the most and why?

my most hated names are scam one’s example: GET FREE ROBUX AT [scam site name) .COM

Psychodelic, (edited ) in Do you prefer to wear a smartwatch or a regular watch?

I wear a hybrid watch made by kronaby. I just need to keep my phone unlocked and it lets you change/pause music so I’m more than satisfied. It even tracks your steps and whatnot but I don’t ever use that.

I forgot to mention the battery lasts months so there’s also that going for it

exothermic, in What was the last dumb phone you had before your first smartphone?

Motorola Q - sold as a smart phone, was in fact dumb. Before that, moto razr
