Today, in What is your favourite floor cleaner liquid and why?

I’ve been using zep, but i just ordered floor science from Amazon. I have stained concrete floors downstairs. I use Bona on the wood upstairs.

Idk but I get what you mean

Synthead, in Lemmy, recommend me a good budget Android phone please

OnePlus is typically a great value.

hemko, in Have you read the Unabombers manifesto?

Yeah sure you can find good takes in isolation from many texts, but you can’t really take them in isolation. Think of intentionally quoting something from Mein Kampf because “it resonated with you”

For example, the following:

Godess of peace can walk only in the company of god of war and that every great act of peace must be protected and assisted by force

I’d think most people would agree with that but no one in their right mind would use those exact words quoting one of the worst man in history of mankind nor suggest “Hitler kinda has a point”

weariedfae, in What is your favourite floor cleaner liquid and why?

To be honest I was lazy at my old place and just used a wet Swiffer. I feel bad about it because I know that ain’t clean.

Previously I used pine sol and hot water, or just dish soap and hot water on linoleum floors. Growing up we didn’t have a mop so we just used rags and scrubbed by hand.

Teknikal, in What chromium based browser do you recommend and why?

I don’t use one but I did watch a YouTube video yesterday praising one called thorium. I might give it a try myself out of curiosity.

pimeys, in How do you treat a cold?

Zinc just when it starts. These candies you let to dissolve in your mouth. One every two hours when the first symptoms start and if lucky, the next day the symptoms are gone.

In US they sell them with the brand name Cold-Eeze, and similar products are available in some EU countries but not in all of them.

Oh, and a lot of tea.

Realme phones are pretty good for the price. You may need to remove a couple of bloat applications and tune some settings after getting it though.

Chainweasel, in Lemmy, recommend me a good budget Android phone please

Get a flagship phone from a generation or two ago, I’m still using my Pixel 5 and I love this phone and they’re dirt cheap at the moment, both new and refurbished, because it’s 3 generations behind

SurpriZe,

Thanks! But what newest features are missing there? Does Pixel 5 have anything useful the newer models don’t?

Chainweasel,

Well, in my opinion the fingerprint sensor is far superior for one. Other than that it’s a little smaller than current generation phones but I think it’s a more manageable size than the current generation

Kage520, in What reasons are there for being concerned about companies like google and meta etc collecting data and tracking me?

I think the best example is for women. Imagine they can figure out, with 95% accuracy or something, that you are pregnant, that could be valuable data.

Now imagine you are a woman at a large corporation who just got pregnant, but aren’t telling anyone yet. Too early. Your corporation buys a batch of data and discovers there is a 95% chance you are pregnant. They don’t want to pay for maternity leave or make reasonable accomodations during pregnancy or pumping breast milk. They fire you for “unrelated reasons”, before you ever tell them you are pregnant.

Nothing illegal happened there really. You never told them so you have no way to prove they fired you for that.

Isn’t that illegal though

FontMasterFlex,

how so?

Blackmist,

Only if you have the funds to prove it.

realharo, (edited )

This is very unlikely, because if they did it to more than a handful of people, the pattern would become immediately obvious.

Kage520,

Not necessarily. It doesn’t have to be pregnancy either. It could be because you are 95% sure a Democrat. Or union friendly. Or atheist.

AngryCommieKender,

Bundle the “undesirables” in mass layoffs to increase the obfuscation of why they were laid off. “The algorithm said these 10% had to go.”

LinkOpensChest_wav, in What chromium based browser do you recommend and why?

Which sites work better in Chrome? I’m forced to use the Google suite at work, and I do everything within Firefox. Even sites that insist they only work in Chrome have always worked for me merely by switching the user-agent header

Apollo2323,

Yes I am very interested to know which websites don’t work.

RisingSwell,

I had issues with what my work use for online training with Firefox, not often, but occasionally a module will just break. I just use edge in those cases, given its basically chrome anyway.

DeadlineX,

The website i work on has some pages that absolutely don’t work on Firefox. I know this because I often have to switch to chrome to see if the code is broke or the browser isn’t rendering correctly.

Lycist, in What reasons are there for being concerned about companies like google and meta etc collecting data and tracking me?

An example of this I use on occasion is:

You date someone years ago and no longer are. You've moved on, but that person then goes and commits a heinous crime. The police decide that since you dated years ago, and that record of your personal info is stored on some database they have somewhere, they no-knock warrant into your house, and shoot you dead in your own bed (Brianna Taylor - Louisville KY.) because they think there's a possibility he was there.

griefreeze,

Breonna Taylor*

TheWiseAlaundo,

This example is pretty good. I’m stealin’ it.

Fairphone 4 maybe? You pay a little extra for the faitrade stuff, but it’s still not awfully expensive

SurpriZe,

Thanks but it’s not sold in Vietnam.

tygerprints, in What is the name for the feeling of nostalgia, loneliness, eeriness and liminality that comes when listening to songs like subwoofer lullaby?

Sort of a vibrant or vivid melancholy, maybe? Some songs by certain groups do that to me also - that song, "remind me" by royksopp always brings on those feelings. I think that listening to music makes you feel like everything in your body is opening up a little, loosening and relaxing and decompressing.
