Lemmy Instance Assistant It does things like if someone links a post and the link takes you to the post on another instance, it adds a button to show the post on your home instance. You can also right click on a page (say, an article on a news site) or image and choose the option to share it on lemmy, which creates a new post. It also has stuff to help you when you click a link to a community but the community is not federated to your server, or you can go to the list of communities on another instance and it will have links to take you to that community on your home instance. That sort of thing. Basically the beginnings of a RES for lemmy.

I also like Dictionary Anywhere, which lets you double click on a word to get a definition, a bit like the one Google one for Chrome.

There are also various container extensions such as a Facebook or Google one, that isolates those sites to attempt to prevent that activity being associated with your activity on other sites. It can be a little annoying to get used to but I use them. The annoying thing is that when you click say a google site from a search result on duckduckgo, it closes the duckduckgo tab and opens the site in a google container, but then you can’t click back to go back to the search results.

The general container tabs extension is good too. It keeps separate cookies per container. So say if you have 3 different microsoft accounts, you can create different containers. Then you can open a new tab in a specific container and it will remember the account you logged into last time in that specific container, but doesn’t affect other containers or tabs not in a container.

pyrflie,

If LIA is anything like RES I am 100% on board.

Dave,
@Dave@lemmy.nz avatar

It’s only beginning, it has nowhere near the features of RES, and mainly it helps with issues related to lemmy federation. But if there’s something you want, the dev is pretty open to new feature suggestions.

GissaMittJobb,

RES shouldn’t really be needed for Lemmy - it’s better to just directly upstream the changes, since it’s open source.

SirToxicAvenger,

thanks!!

TheGiantKorean, in Dear Lemmings, what is your personal approach to human diet?
@TheGiantKorean@lemmy.world avatar

I try to eat 80% to 90% minimally processed foods, and the rest is “fun” food. This is what makes me feel good and keeps me from putting on weight. If I consume too much processed stuff I feel like garbage - I’ll feel tired, get headaches, and feel achey (shit just hits you harder when you’re older).

Minimally processed is stuff like oatmeal, fruit, veggies, lean meats, beans, and rice. I try to eat some fermented stuff every day if I can, usually in the form of fermented dill pickles or kimchi. I try to vary my foods as much as I can, since variety is good for your gut microbiome.

BigBlackCockroach,
@BigBlackCockroach@lemmy.world avatar

I eat oats too, have you heard of the rumor that oats bind vitamins/minerals and thus you eat a a healthy breakfast with oats and fruit but the oats suck up all the nutrients and you get nothing out of it? I am not sure why but i think they claimed there was some binding agent in oats, like some chemical compound.

elint,

Can you find that claim in a reputable scientific study or at least a reputable journal (not an anti-carb paleo or keto blog)? I’d like to know more, but I can’t find anything that isn’t woo science.

While they contain phytic acid, I don’t know if they contain enough quantity to counteract all the veggie/fruit nutrients you eat with it.

BigBlackCockroach,
@BigBlackCockroach@lemmy.world avatar
elint,

That article indicates that isolated phytates resulted in reduced absorption of calcium, iron, and zinc, but no significant effect was found when consumed in a matrix. Furthermore, phytate-containing grains tended to contain other compounds such as fermentable fiber that increased the bioavailability of those minerals, resulting in very little effect. So if that’s the only evidence we have to go by, it doesn’t sound like oatmeal is going to prevent you from absorbing the nutrients from fruits and veggies you eat with it, nor does if have any affect on the other nutritional benefits derived from oats.

BigBlackCockroach,
@BigBlackCockroach@lemmy.world avatar

I am not sure what evidence there is or what studies were the basis of the rumors I’ve heard, this study was what I found on google 😂

TheGiantKorean,
@TheGiantKorean@lemmy.world avatar

You’re probably thinking of phytic acid. While it is present in raw oats, cooking it breaks it down. Most oats you buy from the store have been steamed, so it’s even already cooked before you do anything with it. Cooking breaks down a lot of these types of compounds.

BigBlackCockroach,
@BigBlackCockroach@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve been eating them raw for years 😬

ublock was already mentioned couple of times. Additionally this one: addons.mozilla.org/en-US/…/cookie-autodelete/

slazer2au,

If you are going to auto delete cookies then I suggest consent-o-matic to auto deny cookie popups.

pdnq,
@pdnq@feddit.de avatar

Oh right, there is this one is also currently installed, but hidden and never interacted with.

addons.mozilla.org/…/istilldontcareaboutcookies/

Same functionality.

slazer2au,

In most cases, the add-on just blocks or hides cookie related pop-ups. When it’s needed for the website to work properly, it will automatically accept the cookie policy for you (sometimes it will accept all and sometimes only necessary cookie categories, depending on what’s easier to do). It doesn’t delete cookies.

Not to keen on it accepting the cookies on my behalf, the point is to not accept the cookie. Consent-o-matic will actively deny the requests.

  1. Fill a cup with oreos.
  2. Cover with milk.
  3. Wait until oreos become paste.
  4. Stir and eat with spoon.

Also, my favorite cookie/biscuit used to be Mother’s Taffy sandwich cookies, but then they went out of business, got bought out, brought back, and ruined by completely changing the recipe. Pretty sure the new recipe is just cardboard pulp and reclaimed wastewater.

I miss those.

I like to dip it far enough that my fingers are in the milk a little too so that I can feel once the oreo starts to get soft.
