Honestly? The abolition of democracy/representative government.

themeatbridge,

Yeah, I was gonna say “guillotines” but basically the same idea. At the very least, we’d have to make bribery illegal, but that’s not going to happen while bribery is legal.

new_guy,

Why is that? How everybody else made to the point of having universal health care while still under a democracy or representative government?

I don’t know if you’re being serious or not but modern socialism pretty much began with the Nazis.

The Nazis had a term for people like yourself.

Varyk,

What are you talking about? All the first world countries have public health care and it works better than private health care.

Even in the states, public health care would be far cheaper than private healthcare. Anybody who wants private healthcare instead of public health care is brainwashed.

ShadowCatEXE, in What do you like about the vehicle you drive and would you have changed anythin about it?
@ShadowCatEXE@lemmy.world avatar

I drive a 2013 F-150, and a 6 speed 2012 Audi S4.

I’m in northern Ontario, so I’m in the bush quite frequently. I pull trailers, haul 4 wheelers, wood, and other things in the back, and it does it without issue. Decent on fuel, being a truck and it’s mostly reliable… Older though, so I’ve had things break on me, but nothing I couldn’t fix myself.

The S4 is a hella fun car. I drive to Toronto a number of times throughout the year, and its handles the 24hr round trip with ease. Decent on fuel if you stay off the gas. Quite reliable, but the car is known to have a few rather expensive problems. One of which is the PCV, which I plan on replacing next summer as preventive maintenance, along with some other minor maintenance items. Hoping I don’t have to do the timing chain and tensioners any time soon, but it is a 200k km car. This is a 6 speed, so it doesn’t have the issues the DSG models have. It’s also lowered and has an exhaust… It is quite raspy unfortunately. Would like to install a resonator to help get rid of some of it.

I’ve replaced wheel bearings on both. 4WD actuators, some coolant hosing, O2 sensors, fixed the wire harness in the rear doors, patched the cab corners and a handful of other things on the ford (I’ve owned it longer than the S4).

I could go on forever about these two vehicles, but overall they’ve been good to me, and I haven’t had any major issues or have been left stranded (though I almost was a couple times with the ford, but I was able to get home).

I’d say with most vehicles, as long as you take care of them, they’ll take care of you, although there are some exceptions.

Supercharged FJ cruiser. 280,000km on the clock.

I bloody love it but like yourself the petrol bill is starting to kick my arse.

I had every intention of keeping this thing for the next 10 years but fuel only seems to be going up and up.

I like my car (subaru OBXT) because it is fast and can generally be pretty flexible. I want an electric because gas is staggeringly expensive. Luckily though, I moved to a city that has an electric train and is extremely dense, so I can walk or take the stupidly cheap train. The train tickets also work on the buses, surface rail, boats, and other transit. Spending a lot less on gas, which is nice.

It’s at least defrayed my need for a car within city limits.

thews, in When I get a lack of sleep, I often have a splitting headache the next day. Other people never get any headaches. What's wrong with me?

For a decent chunk of my early 20s i had to take amitriptyline a couple of hours before bedtime to prevent migraines. It also makes you sleep on cloud 9. I was on call at nights and there was no snapping out of the sleep pull, thats the only scenario I can think that it may not help.

Talk to a doctor about it. I have had a couple of brain scans and don’t have anything up there that looks bad. It just happens to some people.

PlogLod,

I’m sorry you were going through that, I take it by your use of past tense you no longer have that issue? If so I don’t suppose you know what could have fixed it? Hope you’re doing better now :)

thews,

Yeah I think it went away at the start of my 30s. Definitely glad it’s not a worry anymore.

I can still get stress or dehydration headaches, but no constant small one that breaks through to eye stabbing with my heartbeat.

I have heard it is common for them to go away by 30s.

PlogLod,

Very interesting, I really would like to know more about why that happens. A few people here said their migraines went away as they got older.

phanpy.social for having an actual human readable view with nested threads. PWA, great on mobile and desktop.

This is what I use. Its open source. Loads faster than any other app ive tried. And best of all it also has really convenient features like putting reposts in a carousel, adding different slight color highlights to the background of posts depending on whether its a repost, reply or normal post. Also it has a thread counter like 2/5 so you know if a post is a part of a thread.

morphballganon, in When I get a lack of sleep, I often have a splitting headache the next day. Other people never get any headaches. What's wrong with me?

You might be overly sensitive to caffeine. I can’t have caffeine after, say, 1pm, or it will make my sleep restless. Maybe try no caffeine after breakfast.

Another possibility is maybe you’d do better working nights. Then you sleep during the day.

PlogLod,

I never drink caffeine, maybe I should :)

Appreciate your advice, but sometimes I’d actually rather go on little sleep if I were able to function properly. The pursuit of actually getting proper sleep is sort of a whole different ball game hahah, but sometimes I’d rather not try to if that makes sense, so that I have more hours to get things done.
