Not when you factor in the productivity and social harmony of a healthy citizen population.

Have to start somewhere, and starting with ubi is a lot better then the crooked system in place now.

Yea, just start them. People are so conservative that doing anything different from the status quo scares them, but once we have social policies in place, people like them. Libraries, national parks, paved roads, garbage trucks, conservatives fought against every positive social policy, medicare, but then appreciated them once they were enacted.

I don’t mind people possibly being surprised at inflation if their basic financial expenses are covered.

We haven’t tried it yet, it works as expected in all the trials so far, just do it.

The mechanics of sensible ubi are straightforward: enough money or money/housing to ensure survival, public education, pay more to those who contribute more to society.

Nothing is perfect, but ensuring the health of the population and investing in their success is a much better model for progress and growth than the ridiculous she damaging disparity the states is investing in at the moment.

How to pull rocks out of pipe in the ground?

My mom has a hole in the ground that she puts her clothes drying hanger in. Like this. The hole in the ground is a 2" or so pipe, set in concrete. The pipe has filled with gravel. Anyone have a tip on getting the rocks out? I can only get so many out using my fingers and then trying to use a set of chopsticks.

I’d say if you aren’t on them and don’t need them, there’s no reason to dip your toe in.

It’s okay to be a little weird and save tons of time and not have to read worthless comments.

I was part of the main ones, but got rid of everything, LinkedIn Facebook, all of it. They are useless or detrimental personally, and I don’t need them for my job.

This is the extent of my social media now.

Slightly annoyed and then I’d move. I live moving and I travel light so it wouldn’t be a huge inconvenience.

But I agree that it is terrifying and awful for people who prefer to put down roots or have their lifestyle tied up in being public figures.

I don’t know about its origin, but as far as I understand people using the phrase, I think they just mean the potential for someone to do good regardless of the circumstances or consequences.

Faith in the character of every human to do good and achieve things.

Not metaphysical.

If you don’t have faith in humanity, it means you are cynical and you expect humans to take advantage of situations and act selfishly.

Has nothing to do with OPs question or my answer, but to address a single tangent you’ve offered, yes, people are complex.

I think humans are largely wired similarly and it’s mostly nurture that influences one’s “moral” compass.

I don’t think our morality is evolving in any meaningful way, but I am optimistic about our ethical development as a direct result of our increasing interconnectedness via travel technology and more significantly, social media/online news.

The invasion of Ukraine, for instance, is inciting a much stronger public global reaction than international conflicts historically have and I believe even twenty years ago(or less; Crimea), nobody would have cared that some faraway place was fighting another faraway place.

I think humanity and humans individually are developing empathy past our preoccupation with the monoculture we’re born into as a direct result of physical and digital proximity. Understanding and believing that we, all humans, humanity, are all related and connected is much more difficult to ignore or discount via ignorance these days, leading to a further-reaching awareness and empathy for situations distance may otherwise have preempted.

What is your unpopular flim opinion

I’ll go first. Mine is that I can’t stand the Deadpool movies. They are self aware and self referential to an obnoxious degree. It’s like being continually reminded that I am in a movie. I swear the success of that movie has directly lead to every blockbuster having to have a joke every 30 seconds

Okay, so not every movie, just some recent popular movies from the same year from two of the largest studios with personnel and historical ties, and I guess illumination is also 3d animation if a different character style.

I understand the gripe, but that’s a very small section of animation.
