harry_balzac, in What is the least shit online store of the shitty ones? such as: Wish, AliExpress, etc..

AliExpress would be my recommendation except that their parent company continues to do business with Russia despite the sanctions.

Persen, (edited )

I agree. Plus they actually refund you. I use them to buy phone cases, parts and other things. Edit: if you find the official store, I reccomend Kodak USB sticks

fat_stig,

Taobao has the same stuff but even cheaper.

harry_balzac,

Thanks for the tip!

vin, in Does wind power cause visual pollution in your opinion?

I love looking at hill ranges covered in wind turbines. The swiss disagree though.

GissaMittJobb, in Does wind power cause visual pollution in your opinion?

I think they look dope as hell.

leraje, in Your greatest weakness becomes your greatest strength. How is your life different?

Somehow, my indifference to heights means I control the known universe. Nobody, least of all me, knows why or how.

Wild_Mastic, in Is Sync for Android worth the cost?

Switched recently from jerboa to Raccoon. Tried sync and did not like it at all.

Bakachu, in What sci-fi-esque inventions are the most plausible and could happen soonest?

Bionics. In the show, The Expanse there’s a scene where a guy who had his arm cut off in a space accident is trying to get his company to not cheap out and to pay for a bionic arm replacement instead of regrowing him a new arm. The bionic arm being greatly more superior than a normal arm.

Lately, robotics and prostheses are becoming so advanced I can see this as happening to where people will eventually want artificial designer parts over their own.

Phoonzang,

We had quite the discussion at work about this very scene (I am loosely related to OSHA stuff), at some point people might think of deliberately having work “accidents” so the employer has to pay for superior replacement parts. And then have an advantage on the job market because of this. Same could go for sports.

I guess technologically, we are very close, but might need to work on the whole ethics part a bit more?

Having said that, I would not mind some advanced Kiroshis to replace my screwed up eyeballs.

afraid_of_zombies,

Really doubt that. If nothing else it is going to mess with the bedroom. Sorry not sorry I want to feel their arm not a stainless steel.

papalonian,

This assumption is made based off of current prosthetics. What if future prosthetics are near-nonidentifiable from real ones? Maybe we’re even about to get our real skin to grow over the outside.

afraid_of_zombies,

Yeah and if wishes were horses them beggars would ride.

GBU_28,

The fuck are you doing in this thread? Did you not read the post title

MajorMajormajormajor, (edited )

Surely it would work like a car warranty, where a certain level is free and you would have to pay extra for the good stuff. For example, you lose your arm in a work accident, company replaces your lost arm with arm-replacelement-mk1-TM which is equivalent-ish to a regular human arm. However, if you want top of the line arm it will cost extra and company will just pay for surgery and base arm replacement, you must cover the difference. You want anything other than the Honda civic of arms? Gotta pay that premium baby! Otherwise embrace the beige mediocraty life.

frokie,

That was an arc in Carbon Black

illi,

This might be in the books but I remember iy being because it’s the Belter way to have a bionic arm. Regrowing is what Inners would do.

Bakachu,

Actually that makes a lot of sense in context of that scene, considering all the genetic struggles belters have to deal with growing up in low G.

pineapplelover, (edited ) in What is the least shit online store of the shitty ones? such as: Wish, AliExpress, etc..

I’ve ordered everything from audio stuff to knives on aliexpress. Find a good reputable seller and you’re good. That’s pretty much the same for any platform like Ebay. Amazon has increasingly gotten worse. Now it’s either really big name brands or cheap chinese clones

Edit: check out Louis Rossman’s video buying electrical equipment from Amazon. If you buy the top rated results, you’ll probably fuck yourself over. One of the top products is a fuse that won’t blow like it’s supposed to, if you put this in your system, it will be catastrophic and life threatening.

militaryintelligence, (edited )

Every name brand clothing item I’ve ordered on Amazon has been fake

derpgon,

Aliexpress also has fakes, but if you want to shop for brands that originate in China, you can find actually good quality products for very cheap. Like Ugreen, who makes nice phone/multi chargers, cables, powerbanks, or Sonoff for smart home stuff, or Anycubic for 3D resin printers.

Amazon is a shitshow, I can’t even find the original stuff. Wish is just a scam. Ebay is okay, but their shipping is not the best.

Hawk,

I’ve had some bad sellers on AliExpress, but support tends to be quite good. They don’t take any bullshit from scam sellers.

afraid_of_zombies,

Amazon definitely has. Almost all the clothing is either brands I can’t afford or no name brands that are terrible quality. I have returned my last sweater. So freaken down with them. Go back to clothing shopping in a physical store like it is 1999.

I enjoy buying merch from some youtubers tbh.
LTT makes awesome quality garments. I was multiple times commented that they look high quality. And I really like how they feel.
Kurzgesagt has some cool shirts.

But outside of those: Hit or miss.

I think they’re cool as hell, I could watch those big fuckers go round and round all day.

superbirra, in Is Sync for Android worth the cost?

I’m using it since after the reddit fiasco, no ads as of now so I’m happy with the free version :)

Phoonzang, in Does wind power cause visual pollution in your opinion?

Whenever someone brings up that argument (windmills are ugly), which is quite a controversial topic in the country I live in, I take them to the open pit coal mines of the area. Those are really ugly.

I do understand the argument that the intermittent shadows the rotating blades may cast on residential areas are annoying.

stackPeek,
@stackPeek@lemmy.world avatar

Why the heck would you build that on residential area anyway? SimCity taught me since I was a kid that industrial factories and windmills shouldn’t be built beside houses

afraid_of_zombies,

I love telling this story. I lived on the second story apartment above a restaurant, behind the restaurant was this shed. One sat morning, very hung over, I am awaken at sunrise with a bright bedroom. Wtf? Look outside and turns out the shed now has solar panels that just happened to catch the light at sunrise and reflect it into my window.

I invested in better curtains.

hawgietonight,

They can’t be set next to residential areas for many reasons. One freak reason most people don’t know is that ice can accumulate on the tip of the blades and get thrown into the air. Having a 5kg ice blocks randomly falling on your house isn’t nice.

AmosBurton, (edited ) in Your greatest weakness becomes your greatest strength. How is your life different?

Crippling fear of rejection & confrontation. can’t find a positive angle on this one.

Edit: now I understand the rules.

Identity3000, (edited )

According to the rules of the post, you are now confident, persuasive, and loved!

And the best thing of all… it doesn’t just have to be a fantasy. These are all qualities that can be learned, practiced, and refined over time. It’s not easy, but it can become a reality!

Person264,

I guess with no fear of confrontation, or being rejected, you’d be a great sociopath/politician/CEO? Positive angle is you might be rich

pineapplelover, in Your greatest weakness becomes your greatest strength. How is your life different?

I am procrastinate and don’t fully commit to things: I am well planned and finish everything I lay my hands on.

pineapplelover, in Does wind power cause visual pollution in your opinion?

Dude. They’re so fucking cool. I wish I had a wind turbine in my backyard or something. A feat of engineering I tell you.
