Isn’t it sound pollution instead of visual pollution, though, if anything? I’d rather have that than coal anyway

tmjaea,

Modern windmills are almost completely silent.

nadram, in Is Sync for Android worth the cost?
@nadram@lemmy.world avatar

Not worth it. Plenty of free apps like Voyager that are adfree and have all the features needed.

Pietson, in Does wind power cause visual pollution in your opinion?

Yes, but not much more than any other man-made construction. I can see windmills from my appartement and they have never even bothered me a little. However if my view was a beautiful tolkienesque landscape they probably would stand out like a sore thumb.

I’m using eternity, which is open source and excellent. See codeberg.org/Bazsalanszky/Eternity/releases

I’m very forgetful, so I guess in this scenario I have an eidetic memory. I become one of those weird guys who wins every game show due to my fantastic recall of everything I’ve ever read, seen or heard.

Highly recommend Boost

indigomirage,

Had been using Sync nonstop. Tried Boost this morning.

I no longer use Sync.

I’ve been using Boost for Reddit for years but I ditched it in favor of Voyager, which supports mod actions and is FOSS.

blackn1ght, in Is Sync for Android worth the cost?

I use Sync but I haven’t paid for it. I turned off all the options in the cookie banner so all I see is a grey box where ads would be and you quickly just don’t even see it after a lot of use.

If it were a one off payment of like £5 I’d pay it, I bought it for Reddit, but I can’t justify the cost.

If you’re a really heavy user then it might be worth it but there’s so many great alternatives out there then I think it’s hard to justify.

blackn1ght, in Does wind power cause visual pollution in your opinion?

A little bit, in the same way that any man made structure does. But they’re quite peaceful to look at and compared to a nuclear or coal plant they’re way better to look at.

I wouldn’t like to see them in an area of outstanding beauty, but I’m cool with them anywhere else.

Slight nitpick: they’re wind turbines, not windmills. Windmills are used to grind things down, like wheat into flour.

Using free version of sync. Why would I pay for those perks beyond donating?

slazer2au, in Does wind power cause visual pollution in your opinion?

I would much rather the visual pollution of a windmill than the combined pollutions of fossil fuel based power plants.

There are 2 windmills not far from my place and they are a good point of reference for where you are.

If you feel you need to burn your money on something that is available elsewhere for free…

Do you.

ShepherdPie,

Is there another client that allows you to sync communities across accounts for free? That has been a huge pain with instances failing.

Sync, with adblock

ShepherdPie,

I’m using Sync with adblock but it has these features locked behind a paywall.

OH sorry I read your comment too fast lol. For that I used lemmy migrate on GitHub, I have about 5 accounts across different instances and they all have mostly the same communities subscribed. I just go in and resync if I’ve subbed to any new ones lately, and it’ll tell you which ones don’t sync (like if one’s defederated or blocked or something in other instances).

Just always be careful before throwing your credentials willy nilly into tools like this github.com/wescode/lemmy_migrate

Edit: I see the other guy responded with lasim which I’ve also heard is good

OscarRobin, in Does wind power cause visual pollution in your opinion?

Well they look farrr better than coal mines and plants and smoke plumes. Even beyond that I think they just look plain nice though, like when I rarely get to see some it makes me happy.

lud, in Does wind power cause visual pollution in your opinion?

Nah, they are cool.

PonyOfWar, in Does wind power cause visual pollution in your opinion?

No, I like them. They bring some variety to landscapes. Many people here hate them though.
