blackn1ght,

I use Sync but I haven’t paid for it. I turned off all the options in the cookie banner so all I see is a grey box where ads would be and you quickly just don’t even see it after a lot of use.

If it were a one off payment of like £5 I’d pay it, I bought it for Reddit, but I can’t justify the cost.

If you’re a really heavy user then it might be worth it but there’s so many great alternatives out there then I think it’s hard to justify.

blackn1ght,

A little bit, in the same way that any man made structure does. But they’re quite peaceful to look at and compared to a nuclear or coal plant they’re way better to look at.

I wouldn’t like to see them in an area of outstanding beauty, but I’m cool with them anywhere else.

Slight nitpick: they’re wind turbines, not windmills. Windmills are used to grind things down, like wheat into flour.

blackn1ght,

This isn’t my experience. I’m way more focused in the morning and then it’s all downhill after lunch. By the time it’s the evening I have zero motivation to do any code.

blackn1ght,

I assume so, you can just never go back.

blackn1ght,

Why does it matter if they’re driverless or not? They still perform the same function and go off and serve other people when you’re not using one.

I might move again. (Or not) (lemy.lol)

I moved from Lemmy.ml because I liked the name of Lemmy.world and it ran a newer Lemmy version which meant I could make communities. I moved from Lemmy.world because they defederated from piracy communities they didn’t even host (but for some reason still kept the small piracy community they DID host) From thelemmy.club...

blackn1ght,

This is the great thing about federation though right? You can just sign up to another instance and see their content. Personally I think it’s nice that there’s a large instance that’s free of them, sometimes it’s exhausting going through their annoying comments.

blackn1ght,

The problem starts when your comments silently get removed and you end up getting banned under vague “rule 1” because a mod disagrees with your view. The narrative of communities are defined by the mods even though the community is just a generic one.

blackn1ght,

I guess it’s a non-native English speaking mistake? I’ve never heard anyone say this apart from on the internet.

blackn1ght,

None of them. I don’t care who they are, nobody should be a billionaire.

blackn1ght,

Cash should always be available and accepted, but personally I absolutely avoid it unless absolutely necessary.

I can’t remember the last time I used cash too buy something.

blackn1ght,

Thanks!

I’ve just seen I had a comment removed from lemmy.ml, for “rule 1” reasons but don’t really see what’s wrong with the comment other than it goes against the political grain of the community (world news).

blackn1ght,

Yeah. I think it’s basically they use it as a blanket rule to sensor content that goes against their political narrative.

I just realised that you can go to the instance in question and view search the modlog, it seems it has more entries. I actually got a ban! No idea why.

blackn1ght,

Should the keys not be on the fob with the key to operate the vehicle?

blackn1ght,

Yup. My day starts at like 10pm because it’s spent taking care of everyone else’s needs first.

blackn1ght,

Yes? How can you watch a film if everyone is talking?

blackn1ght,

I just wouldn’t put a film on personally if I wanted to socialise with the other person.

blackn1ght,

PLACES WERE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE DRIVEN TO

Says who? Is there some natural law when the universe was created that said mankind are not allowed to drive?

YEARS OF BUILDING CAR INFRASTRUCTURE yet NO DECREASE IN OVERALL TRAVEL TIME

Ok you go and set off on foot on a 200km journey, and a car sets off at the same time to get to the same place, who will get there first?

Want to go somewhere fast? We have a vehicle for that; It’s called a “TRAIN”

Trains are great at moving people / goods between urban areas, but are awful (obviously) for point-to-point journeys. Want to the doctors fast? Can’t exactly get on the the train directly outside your house to the front door of the doctors. I like trains, I use them where I can and always use them whenever I go into the office, but you cannot seriously suggest using trains to totally replace cars, it’s so ridiculous that I’d swear you’ve never even seen one.

“i am DRIVING my…”

Not sure what’s deranged about it? In fact that case is very valid as you’re likely to have a lot of shopping (two weeks worth) that you’d really struggle to carry on public transport. It might have a bit more authenticity if you said it was just to get some bread and milk.

I get the sentiment, we should totally be trying to reduce our car usage and planning our urban environments to favour walking, cycling and public transport, but the fuckcars community on here are totally deranged. Your arguments look ridiculous and aren’t going to convince anyone.

blackn1ght,

Two weeks worth of shopping for a family would be a lot more than three or four bags.

blackn1ght,

There’s Linux distro called suicide Linux that wipes your hard drive on any mistyped command.

blackn1ght,

There’s a street food hall place in Manchester where you can only order via an app and some food businessess force you to pay a “tip” while ordering your food. Can pay 5, 10 or 15%.

Who the fuck do they think is going to willingly pay more than they have to? It’s blatantly a service charge, you don’t give tips before you’ve even ordered your food.

blackn1ght,

If the children were driving their own SUVs this wouldn’t be a problem.

blackn1ght,

I’m convinced a lot of the fuck car people are people in their 20s with no kids who live in the city where they can heavily rely on good public transport and not have a need to travel too far.

I totally get the sentiment but it’s just not practical for a lot of us. To get people away from cars the local authority would need to practically fill the roads with small extremely regular buses that go all over the place. You’d never wait more than a couple of minutes outside your house for a bus to arrive to go somewhere.
