  • The Amber & Lacey, Lacey & Amber Show gets me into a positive mood.
  • Countdown with Keith Olbermann is still good when he isn’t bringing up exes.
  • Worlds Beyond Number is a neat TTRPG live play from last year.
  • Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend
  • Bonanas for Bonanza because Maria Bamford is an unsung comedy legend
  • The Doug Stanhope Podcast
  • How Did This Get Made? making fun of bad movies is fun.
  • Lovett or Leave It politics with a spoonful of snark
  • LeVar Burton Reads reading rainbow will never die!
  • SmartLess easy listening
  • Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me the sign of a true celebrity is appearing on this show.
  • Strike Force Five was kinda neat as an insight into unscripted dialogue with competing professionals, but they seemed to gang up on Jimmy Fallon, who, arguably, has the most prestigious late night show.

Sean Carroll - mindscape

Fraser Cain - universe today

David Eagleman - inner cosmos

PastyWaterSnake,

In a similar vein, I’d like to recommend Skeptics Guide To The Universe. Mostly focused on science news and critical thinking. I believed they’ve interviewed Sean Carroll several times in the past as well.

It’s been around for 18 years, and they have a very rigid format that may not be for everyone, but I personally really like the organization of it

Heliumfart,

Yes, fully agree, that’s my Saturday morning special. Also talk nerdy by Cara Santa Maria can be quite nice.

HelixDab2, in Do You Have a Fire Extinguisher in Your Home and is it Still Pressurized?

Currently have 6. I need to get more, and larger ones. We live in a log house, in an area that takes a minimum of 20 minutes for emergency services to get to, and heat with a wood stove. We absolutely need to practice fire safety all the time.

nick,

Oh man, definitely get more!

HelixDab2,

That’s the idea. The really big ones get pretty expensive though; a 30# fire extinguisher starts at around $500, and can get up to about $1500. But that size gets you about 20-30 seconds of continuous use, which is enough for a pretty big house fire.

nick, in Do You Have a Fire Extinguisher in Your Home and is it Still Pressurized?

I have five! And I just checked them as part of my semi yearly maintenance.

Kitchen under stove, laundry room by dryer (wife and kids refuse to empty lint trap, smdh), one each by both furnaces (different parts of the basement), and one in the garage.

Never had to use one, hope to never have to.

I’m part of a local anarchist group and we pitch ideas and proposals to different parties who would listen, posting about it on Lemmy wouldn’t help with that.

Dead Rabbit Radio, been shamelessly shilling it (not my podcast and I’m not affiliated with it any any way) for the better part of five years. Daily paranormal and weird news episodes and Jason Carpenter doesn’t have all the cringey seriousness that most high strangeness podcasts have.

WhiteRabbit_33, in Do You Have a Fire Extinguisher in Your Home and is it Still Pressurized?

Those years of safety training finally paying off:

Do you know what types of fires your fire extinguisher is rated for? There are several different types. Most modern home fire extinguishers are rated for A (wood/paper), B (liquids like oil fires), and C (electrical), but you may have an older fire extinguisher or landlord who cheaped out on one that only works on some of those types.

If you have a fire that’s based on metals (like fireworks) or exothermic chemical reactions, have a different fire extinguisher or call the fire department with special instructions.

Always remember the acronym PASS when using a fire extinguisher:

    1. Pull the pin
    2. Aim at the base of the fire
    3. Squeeze the trigger
    4. Sweep the fire extinguisher side to side to cover all of the fire till the fire is extinguished
    SkybreakerEngineer,

My extensive training has left me with the impression that yelling “SHORT BURST” and pointing at any red LEDs is equally important

Yes. Also have a fire blanket in the kitchen in case of grease fire.

iter_facio, in What's the best way to pay an online merchant using Crypto for someone who has never bought/used it before?

What crypto are you trying to pay in? If BTC, probably cashapp or strike (if available in your country) is probably the most straightforward. Be forewarned: both of these are KYC (know your customer) apps, so if you are purchasing anything that could be nefarious or illegal, you WILL get caught. BTC is very traceable unless you go through WAY more hoops and steps.

If you are looking for anonymous transactions and trust the seller, sending cash is probably the most anonymous without a ton of steps.

    Melatonin,

I was thinking Dogecoin. BTC seemed so weird, buying a hundredth or a thousandth of something. The purchase is an invitation for a private tracker I’m already a part of, so it’s not like I’m buying cocaine or humans. I was just more aware of discounts for Crypto online and I was going to start dabbling.

    iter_facio,

Not really familiar with Doge, so someone else will have to help. Best to think of BTC not as each individual BTC, but as Satoshis, or SATs. When you get rid of the decimal, it makes everything easier. So 1btc = 100mil SATs. Since 1usd is 2200 SATs at the moment, you just do some basic math.

Hopefully you find someone knowledgeable about Doge. Good luck in your transaction

    I highly recommend Darknet Diaries.

I enjoy all of the episodes in one way or another. But here are a few of my recommendations.

Ep 36: Jeremy from Marketing - “A company hires a penetration tester to pose as a new hire, Jeremy from Marketing, to see how much he can hack into in his first week on the job. It doesn’t go as planned.”

Ep 14: - “In 2013 a hospital was accused of conducting a medical kidnapping against a young girl named Justina. This enraged many people across the country, including members of Anonymous. A DDOS attack was waged against the hospital.”

Ep 24: Operation Bayonet - "Darknet markets are online black markets. They are highly illegal, and dangerous to run. Hear exactly how dangerous it was for Alphabay and Hansa dark markets.

Ep 29: Stuxnet - “Stuxnet was the most sophisticated virus ever discovered. It’s target was a nuclear enrichment facility in Iran. This virus was successfully able to destroy numerous centrifuges. Hear who did it and why.”
