psion1369, in Excluding the obvious ones such as politics, what topics can't you stand listening to people talk about?

Repeated discussions about problems that have no solution other than drop someone out of your life. If you aren’t going to ditch the person you are complaining about, then I really don’t want to hear any more about them.

LegionEris,

Oohh I get this one. Me to a friend the other day: “As long as you’re still getting a divorce, I LOVE YOU!” If she doesn’t go through with this divorce, we’re not friends anymore…

Aku, in Gifts for young kids who are really into airplanes?

Maybe one of those paper airplane building books.

This!

My kids have had a few of these over the years and they’re great. At 3-4yrs, they’ll needs some help with instructions and folding, but it’s still a great gift.

Drusas,

Thank you, that sounds like a great idea!

CM400,

Someone also makes one of those “page-a-day” calendars with instructions for a new plane every day, typically with designs printed on them so the planes look cool after being folded.

intensely_human,

I helped a friend’s daughter make paper airplanes once. She was all excited about making all sorts of new airplanes but none of them were flying.

So over the course of a few weeks I had her repeat the same basic airplane again and again, until she mastered it. At first she hated the idea of going back and doing the same airplane again, but as her folds got better and her airplanes started to fly better, she got really into it.

The grin that spread over her face when she realized she could get better at things was amazing.

And she was six. I’m not sure if an airplane a day would be appropriate for a three year old.

NemoWuMing, in Gifts for young kids who are really into airplanes?

A poster with pictures of airplanes, that you hang up on his playroom wall. And then you look at the planes together and name them every time you visit. That’s awesome fun for a 3 year old.

He’s 3, don’t overthink it. When I was 3, one of those Balsa wood gliders was the most fun thing in the world.

Pirate_lemmy_arrrrR,

I can’t seem to find them on Amazon, but there used to be those air pump powered planes that were a lot of fun if you had the room to fly them.

otter,

This is the first thing that came to mind. I used to get them at the dentist as a kid

www.amazon.ca/…/B07WHM33X1

Didn’t realize how cheap they were, maybe I’ll get more…

Chobbes,

These things are so awesome. I had one once and it’s burned into my memory far more than it should be.

ShunkW, (edited ) in Gifts for young kids who are really into airplanes?

You can get trinkets made from the skins of older, real airplanes.

They could be a cool collection starter and they’re shiny

All of them. It helps to compare.

The entire Sprawl trilogy. But if only one was to be made, I’d love to see Count Zero on the big screen as that one had the most action and visually appealing scenes to adapt.

But I also agree with Dragonriders of Pern! I loved those books when I was in high school.

SheDiceToday,

I could see the new enjoyers of Pern flat out giving it up when the twist happened. Plus, I wouldn’t trust the show’s makers to not trash the politics of the holds.

spoilerFantasy -> sci-fi is a pretty big change for a tv audience, I think.

Geek_King, in What's a sci-fi or fantasy book or series that you want to see adapted as a movie/television series?

The Expeditionary Force series! I loved the series and listened to the whole thing on audible! The great thing is, R.C. Bray could still voice one of the key characters who makes the whole series fun and addicting!

Starb3an,

That’s with Skippy the beer can right?

Geek_King,

You know it! God damn, a TV show based on that series would be so awesome! Come on Amazon, get cracking!

corsicanguppy, in What's a sci-fi or fantasy book or series that you want to see adapted as a movie/television series?

Firefly looks good.

Ground News

LeftHandedWave,

This is the one I like. It not only gives you Left, Center or Right leaning articles, it also tells you how factual the new source that you’re looking at is

Nollij,

Only in the paid version.

That said, simply comparing the headline across sources will tell you an awful lot about how factual they are.

LoganNineFingers, (edited ) in What's a sci-fi or fantasy book or series that you want to see adapted as a movie/television series?
  • Red Rising would be unreal
  • Anything Sanderson would be nice. Especially his fantasy stuff but his Cytonic series would be good.
  • The First Law Trilogy
  • Codex Alera
  • If Rothfuss wilould finish the friggin trilogy King killer Chronicles would be good

intensely_human, in I read that weed makes you not dream, then when you go off weed you have crazy dreams. So heavy, heavy weed users that quit, how long did you have crazy dreams for?

You have vivid dreams for a few days. It’s just a matter of your hormones equalizing, so it doesn’t take a really long time.

Similar timeframe to getting over nicotine withdrawal which is a few days to a week, which is basically the time it takes your brain to alter its calibration.

Outtatime, in What are the most annoying stereotypical things about teens? (both perspectives)
@Outtatime@sh.itjust.works avatar

From a stereotypical perspective, some may find teens annoying due to perceived mood swings, rebellious behavior, or being glued to screens. On the positive side, teens are often seen as energetic, creative, and adaptable. It’s essential to recognize individual differences rather than relying solely on stereotypes.
