berg, in What's an alternative to Spotify that doesn't play you the same fucking songs over and over?

This wasn’t what you asked for, but I have to add it in here: I switched to YouTube music because I was told the shuffle actually was random there. From my experience the past couple of months it seems to be the case, at the very least it’s better. But discovering new music (without putting in much effort) has been harder. Their playlist sorting is non-existent (you’re stuck with alphabetic order, no folders). And for some idiotic reason the playlists are shared with YouTube… Everything with it, except for its working shuffle, is horrendous.

How the fuck can Spotify just not have a true fucking random shuffle, it’s so annoying! It does everything else fairly well, but I’m not switching back to starting a playlist of 8+ hrs and getting a recognizable pattern depending on what I skip and don’t. Or whatever goddamn algorithm they think is better than /dev/urandom.

This gave me hope for a while, but I’ve now given up: community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/…/103#comment…

theherk,

If you want to discover new music, use “Start Radio” in lieu of shuffle.

shork,

I actually looked for that after you mentioned it on the Spotify app but couldn’t find it. Mind saying where it is? Or you’re referencing the outside shuffle website.

theherk,

Sorry I was unclear. I meant in YouTube Music. It has a Start Radio option which is suitable for discovery.

berg,

Yes, I’m aware of the radio ability. I’m not using shuffle to discover new music. I’m using it to play random songs from a large playlist I have.

sir_pronoun,

Thanks, maybe I should really Check that and Apple music out… still frustrating, as no option seems to be great. How can that be, after so many years of music services? What are all those developers doing? Are they stuck in scrum meeting timeloops?

spotifyshuffler.com this is what I use. To shuffle liked songs, use the desktop app, go to liked songs, ctrl-a, right click, add to new playlist. Then that playlist can be shuffled with that tool and you play it in spotify with shuffle turned off (since the song order is already random). I’ve heard a lot of songs I haven’t heard in forever so it’s super nice

Virock,

I use Virtual Shuffle. It forces Spotify to play truly random tracks. https://shuffle.virock.org

andthenthreemore, in Why don't public restroom stalls have OPEN/OCCUPIED indicators like porta potties do?

They do.

Thank you. I didn’t know about the Automix setting, and it’s enabled by default

Pandora sort of has some of that but not so far in depth. You can customize with crowd favorite songs or hits or deep cuts or discovery. Their library is much smaller though, and you’re stuck in a genre based on the station for the most part.

Redditgee, (edited )

This is kinda how I operate. Just listen to pandora while I’m doing other tasks and see if new songs grow on me, then every few weeks, I put all my thumbed up songs on spotify playlists.

lntl, in Where on the globe would you best be able to sail a very large ship without being detected?
@lntl@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Most of the ocean you won’t be detected in. There’s just nobody looking for anyone out there. So stay away from eezs and littoral zones and you ll be alone in no time.

Thanks! Haven’t heard of those. I’ll look em up!

ktr41n, in What MMOs are you all playing?

I recently got the urge to play WoW again, so I figured I’d cash in on the ‘free play til level 20’ thing and play on a Classic server. Except those are pay only. Decided I’d try retail since it was free and quit within an hour. I’ve been really loving Turtle WoW, however.

CraigeryTheKid,

Oh man I just discovered and joined turtle yesterday! Haven’t had a chance to play, but did confirm it ran without any additional setup on PopOS.

ktr41n,

Awesome! All the advice I saw on the net was to try and run it via Steam (which ended up causing weird graphical glitches) but it ran great for me with just regular wine.

Already found a fun guild while I was running WC…let me know if you’re looking for one!

Rhynoplaz, in Circumcised men, how do you feel about your parents having mutilated your penis without your consent?

I don’t really mind.

PhlubbaDubba, in What are your thoughts on people being doxxed for ripping down missing israeli posters?

Doxxing someone for doing something that’ll make a lot of people angry is a dangerous game and should not be done unless you’re 100% sure you’d be ok with their blood being on your hands for exposing them to their would be attackers.

That said, poster rippers are mad about the right thing but at the wrong people. Those hostages are victims just as much as the people stuck in Gaza between the leviathans of Bibi and Hamas.

I like to think that you were just too excited to share this information to use commas, or take a breath.

weariedfae, in What do you think happened to the hikers in the Dyatlov Pass Incident?

Y’all, they famously used shit they learned from making the movie Frozen and pretty much modeled it exactly. This isn’t a mystery anymore.

bpm, in Lighthearted, upbeat shows for adults?

“Miracle Workers” hasn’t been mentioned yet, it has a similar vibe, romantic comedy, some mild philosophy, very upbeat. Each season is a different storyline with (almost) the same cast, so if the first season doesn’t grab you try the next. The creator had an earlier show “Man Seeking Woman” as well, that’s fun too.

ArcaneSlime, in What do you think happened to the hikers in the Dyatlov Pass Incident?

It was a yeti. Could have even been Mugato.

I love the yeti theory. It’s so absurd

Started festia online and I really like it! But I’m new and I’m lost.

tronx4002, in Lighthearted, upbeat shows for adults?

It is cancelled now, but Last Man on Earth is such a great show.

themajesticdodo,

I found it really hard to get into. If I had something else I wanted to watch I wouldn’t have started season 2. By the time it ended I was hoping for just one more season.

WashedOver,
@WashedOver@lemmy.ca avatar

I’ve not made it through the first season. It is so cringe to me at this point. It does get better then?

themajesticdodo,

Halfway through the second season it turns away from it. It goes on longer than it should before he starts to develop as a character. It gets a little bit more comfortable after that with enough plot points to keep you engaged. At some point you might cry. Jason Sudekis is good.

plantedworld, in Lighthearted, upbeat shows for adults?

Eureka is kind of a disaster of the week pseudoscience problem show with a lot of heart. Don’t go looking for true scifi, but it’s so damn charming and the cast has exceptional chemistry.

lemmy_at_em,

I really loved Eureka, but the whole everyone thinks Carter is an idiot schtick makes it hard for me to rewatch.
