NorthWestWind, in why do & ampersands never display properly in titles?
@NorthWestWind@lemmy.world avatar

On Eternity we have the opposite (work in title but not body), but when I click into the post it looks fine.

DirigibleProtein, in No politics inteded: Why isn't Trump after leaving office in any way or shape involved in politics say as member of congress or senate?

Because no one with any decency or wisdom wants or trusts him.

Imagine conservatives don’t have to get pissy about stuff they made up themselves. After decades of imaginary things, fabricated in their own minds, it’s easy to not take a single thing serious that comes out of their mouths.

One day it will be something real, something serious and dangerous for us all. And nobody will listen to them.

BigBlackCockroach,
@BigBlackCockroach@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah there is a lot that is going wrong there! especially there used to be at least in the USA the mantra of “I didn’t vote for the guy but he is our president and as such I stand behind him in support” that is completely gone it seems. I know republicans in the past who said things like that to me.

conciselyverbose, in No politics inteded: Why isn't Trump after leaving office in any way or shape involved in politics say as member of congress or senate?

I don't think Trump is the first to run for president after being voted out.

Not running for a lesser office is way more the "unwritten rule".

thanks I didn’t know this

Grover Cleveland did just that, he’s the only US President to serve two nonconsecutive terms.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grover_Cleveland

The ideal president in American culture does what George Washington did, serve two terms then retire. Being a one term president is seen as a failure and a rejection of their policies, so relection is unlikely

@davetansley@lemmy.world avatar

If, like me, you do a lot of Chromecasting from your browser, you’ll want to install fx_cast. You need to do a bit of manual installation to get it running, but it works great when you do.

tenchiken,

Brilliant! This is the one thing that’s been a thorn in my conversion.

Appreciate the post!

@popekingjoe@lemmy.world avatar

Until it’s too late to save it because I dropped it in the milk several minutes and fuck shit ass I forgot thanks to ADHD because ooo lizards.

PissinSelfNdriveway,

Exactly, you wait until you feel it just starting to dissolve under your fingers and then try to pull it out fast and gentle. If you are in any way slightly wrong it’s gone

shrewbacca, in No politics inteded: Why isn't Trump after leaving office in any way or shape involved in politics say as member of congress or senate?

He doesn’t want that. He wants to be the guy who was “wronged” in the last election.

I mean, he’s making bank off of donations just from beating that dead horse. Why work when you can just scream and cry and have people throw money at you?

Also, considering the size of his ego, he probably doesn’t want anything less than being the top guy. That’s all that matters to him.

Another poster said something about a “gentlemen’s agreement”, which isn’t wrong. The US has (generally) tried to maintain the peaceful transfer of power. They didn’t plan on a scumbag throwing a bitch fit to keep that from happening.

BigBlackCockroach,
@BigBlackCockroach@lemmy.world avatar

I suspected being a senator or congressman would be actually quiet difficult and Trump may not be cut out for it. thanks for your insight shrewbacca

shrewbacca,

No problem, fam. It’s an honest question, so I don’t blame you for asking.

I guess he hadn’t taken enough advantages on the side yet, so he decided to try it all again.

bionicjoey, in hey - trying to switch from Chrome to Firefox, what are your recommended extensions and/or quality of life addins, etc?

Ublock Origin & Sponsorblock - for blocking ads

DarkReader - for making all websites “dark mode”

Geth, in hey - trying to switch from Chrome to Firefox, what are your recommended extensions and/or quality of life addins, etc?

Honestly the less you can live with the better. For me essentials are always ublock for ads, imagus for better image viewing while browsing and simple translate because I deal with a lot of languages. Also containers is useful for work.

nix,
@nix@merv.news avatar

Wasn’t imagus found to be doing shady data collection?

Geth,

I thought that was Hover Zoom many years ago. I hope Imagus hasn’t followed the same path, it’s a very useful tool.

nix,
@nix@merv.news avatar

Oh yeah it was, looks like imagus was only malicious on the edge store due to it being uploaded by someone else

ahal,

There’s the built-in Firefox translate now, though it currently only supports a handful of languages (more coming soon)

jabberati, in How do you feel about registering in XMPP by phone number?
@jabberati@social.anoxinon.de avatar

Most users care more about contact discovery than privacy so it makes sense for them to implement it and unlike Signal, it uses so everyone has the freedom to use any other app that doesn't require a phone number and you are still able communicate with everyone on Prav.

Slow,

I think that Prav can be recommended to friends who are used to registering for different services using a number. Such people are not accustomed to unnecessary steps during registration.

CarbonatedPastaSauce, in hey - trying to switch from Chrome to Firefox, what are your recommended extensions and/or quality of life addins, etc?

LibreWolf is Firefox without Mozilla telemetry, and with privacy settings on by default. Consider switching.

Be aware that the more extensions you add, the easier it is for websites to fingerprint (identify) you.

LW is great - comes with UBO pre-installed. The only thing I’d say about it is that, for Linux users, avoid the appimage as its a bit twitchy and forgets settings sometimes.

ichbinjasokreativ,

Used it for a while, but it seems to have issues when using the Dark Reader extension and I cannot handle staring at white pages at night
