Cloudkill is how I deal with those fucks. Get to move it every turn so if they run out you just plop it back down on top of them. I use cloudkill to great effect in the throne room too.
Darkness needs a party that can work with it. The Eversight Ring and Warlock’s Devil Sight eldritch invocation both will preserve Advantage and let you shoot in/out/through it. There’s also a helm very late in the game. As the other commenter was alluding to, there’s a key component here, and it sounds like you haven’t picked it up yet.
I tried this build in my first playthrough and ultimately I wasn’t thrilled with its performance. Darkness is smaller than the big surface spells (Hunger of Hadar, Spike Growth), and a big part of the reason why those spells are so effective is their size. Put most (or all) of your party in Darkness and it’s quite cramped. And not very mobile. I think if I were to try it again, maybe I’d put it in more of a tanky/control build. Combine Darkness with a Ranger’s Entangling, maybe.
If you can handle the deviation, getting Shadowheart out of the Trickery domain would be a big boost regardless. I don’t think War is way off. There’s a mod adding the Death domain, if that sounds any better (though I haven’t tried it).
Gandalf is in BG3? Dang! Now I’m really sad that I never found Gale. I’m about to finish the game, so it’s definitely too late to go back and find him.
This is an interesting question, in my 600 hours the only characters I’ve seen have romance starting dialogue outside of the Act 1 party is Lae’zel and Shadowheart. Lae’zel got an exclamation bubble above her head after I fought the owlbear, where she basically says what she says at the party but potentially sooner than the party (this didn’t trigger the sex scene till the night of the party even though she asked way before). And Shadowheart gets a dialogue that says something like “I feel we missed a chance to connect” but I’ve only seen that dialogue actually appear a handful of times, I imagine if you kill Minthara you won’t be in a relationship and thus the dialogue should trigger for you, though I might’ve actually been in the shadowlands actually when I got it, I don’t recall exactly. Wyll will try to seduce you with a dance in Act 2 which I believe starts his romance. But I’ve never been able to start a romance with Karlach, Gale, Lae’zel, & Astarion post Act 1 if I didn’t ask during the party.
I’m playing on a 65" 4k OLED with 5.1 surround sound. It’s awesome on the PS5! I have the PC version too and movement and the camera are a lot better on PS5. Inventory management is better on PC, and some world interactions are easier. The graphics are more detailed on my PC with a 3070 ti, and load times are considerably faster, like 5x faster, but I still prefer playing on PS5.
