MacDoodle Street - 1978

Mark Alan Stamaty’s MacDoodle Street ran in the Village Voice for a number of years. The continuing story of beleaguered poet Malcolm Frazzle and his journey from the Cafe Fizz as seen above to dishwashing nirvana at the behest of a cow goddess can be read in the full collection, which I highly recommend. The best thing about the comic is the endless nonsense going on in the margins, which occasionally invade the strip and influence the storyline.

I also highly recommend Stamaty’s children’s book, Who Needs Donuts? Even though it’s a book for children, it has a Where’s Waldo level of detail with a much more talented artist’s touch. You will spend hours looking at it.
