Throw in one block of vibrant red at the bottom right (like that real thin bar), and you can stop right there. The balance of color and white space is actually quite nice and relaxing. The color choices are awesome.
Super cute and living the progress. I try to do about 300+ stitches a day myself. A 24 hour weekend witch fest sounds fun and also full of hand breaks.
Thanks! 300 daily is impressive, and so far out of my reach. Just have too many other craft projects on the go, which I suppose you could argue is my own fault.
Just thought to actually check how many stitches I did during this and it’s 2345, which yes that’s less than 100 an hour, but I had to do some frogging and also was very tired by the end lol.
Definitely a lot of fun though, maybe you should get the April edition in your calendar 😉
Thanks! It was hard work, 8hrs a day doesn’t sound unmanageable until you remember you’re an adult who needs to do other things too! But at least I didn’t have to cheat and extend it into Monday this time which is my usual strat 😅
Errol! You better hide anything edible, or actually anything non-edible too, when that one is finished :)
Couldn’t quickly find the perfect quote, but have this lovely one instead:
Where do you think they’ve gone?’ he said. ‘Where what?’ said Lady Ramkin, temporarily halted.
‘The dragons. You know. Errol and his wi - female.’
‘Oh, somewhere isolated and rocky, I should imagine,’ said Lady Ramkin. ‘Favourite country for dragons.’
‘But it - she’s a magical animal,’ said Vimes. ‘What’ll happen when the magic goes away?’
Lady Ramkin gave him a shy smile.
‘Most people seem to manage,’ she said.
She reached across the table and touched his hand.
When I was deciding on fabric for this I nearly went with a space theme because I imagined them flying out beyond the edge of the Disc and finding a new world. But ultimately the colours in that fabric would’ve been too close to Errol. On the bright side this slightly speckly yarn is a bit “isolated and rocky” vibes so I think it still works!
However, BIG caveat. I’m doing it all in tent stitch (half stitches), which I did a test square of before starting to make sure the coverage was good. Obviously the main difference is stitching over 1 you end up with a finished piece half the size of what the pattern probably says it should be, but as a bonus you get to use (and therefore buy) less floss. So swings and roundabouts!
I think 2 over 1 full cross stitch would’ve been a bit much for this fabric, I’d probably have tried swatching 1 over 1 to see what that looked like. But honestly just do whatever you want, no stitching police are gonna come knocking at the door :D
Personally I really love the look of stitching over 2 on evenweave because the relatively chonky stitches contrast with the finer fabric. But ymmv!
I’m quickly realizing that 2 over 1 probably would have looked fine, but I’m just going to forge ahead at this point because I’m having fun with it and I like the way it looks lol. If I decide to do 1 over 1 again I will probably choose a pattern with less complicated lettering! I’m having to do parts of these letters one tiny stitch at a time lol!
I definitely had to crank up my light as bright as it would go lol! I may make another post soon about everything I’ve had to do differently in case anyone else wants to try this who hasn’t before. It has definitely been a learning experience!
I’ve done both. I prefer even weave to aida, and I like stitching over 2. I don’t think it looks like aida at the end. IMO it looks like tapestry. If you stitch over 1, it’ll be very hard to do half stitches (if there are any in your pattern). Over 1 looks like petit point to me, so I guess each has their place depending on what you’re going for.
I’m enjoying it so far! I stuck to something pretty simple since this is my first time using evenweave, so no half stitches here lol! I do have some patterns that involve a lot of half stitches that I kind of gave up on when using aida so I may try those again with evenweave and stitch over 2 on that one
