Wow yeah that’s some serious before and after backstitch porn right there! Although that word seems wrong to use at such a cute project, haha.

We had a very similar situation with !knitting a while back and long story short I took over there and have been doing my best.

IF nobody else steps up, I’d be ok doing it here too. But I am begging the other regulars to consider volunteering instead, I have no aspirations to become some sort of crafting community powermod 😅

Or maybe two or three of us could take it on together and cover each others backs, safe in the knowledge that we’ve got timezones covered for spam incidents (which are the only kind of incidents I’ve seen in here, crafters are generally pretty un-dramatic). That way it’s not on any one person and nobody needs to stress.

Come on folks, let’s keep this place going!

@kersploosh@sh.itjust.works avatar

I have appointed you as the new moderator. Thanks!

I agree that it would be great for others to pitch in, too. If anyone else volunteers, I am happy to give them mod rights, too. You can also do it yourself now.

Feel free to unpin or delete this post whenever you think it has been up long enough.

thegiddystitcher,
@thegiddystitcher@lemm.ee avatar

See kids this is why you never even begrudgingly volunteer to be the emergency backup!

(it’s fine, I’ll sort it from here, but wow I really made my own bed there didn’t I 😂)

h3mlocke,

Lmao

IoSapsai,

Look, I am considering it. I have some serious issues with Lemmy lately, especially after the new update that broke jerboa for me. Even after updating the app it still barely works. Rest of the apps seem to make my phone freeze for whatever reason. I’ll try sorting that out and consider volunteering!

h3mlocke,

Yeah, jerboa is kinda working now for the most part but still a bit janky at some things, even sync has been having some problems, but less. Hopefully updates’ll get smoother

thegiddystitcher,
@thegiddystitcher@lemm.ee avatar

Appreciate you considering it! There’s definitely a lot of issues with 0.19, it took me about three tries to open this post today because lemm.ee has been struggling. But pretty much every big update has been the same so if it follows the pattern, in a few days they’ll sort out the urgent performance issues and we can all get back to normal 🤞

Apparently me even voicing the tentative willingness to be the emergency backup plan was enough and I am now mod, so I’ll give it a few days and see if anyone else fancies it but given my experience with the knitting community I can confirm that it’s not any actual work being mod of places like this, it’s just having someone there on the off-chance something kicks off.

IoSapsai,

Alright, I switched to voyager and everything resolved. It seems to work fine now after they rolled out a bunch of updates. It needs some getting used to but I wasn’t happy with jerboa anyway. It was less of a lemm.ee issue and more of devs not updating their fdroid release on time.

I decided to volunteer as a mod. I’ve never been one but I imagine it’s not a full time job modding a community like this like you said. My timezone is UTC+2 (Helsinki, Kiyv, Riga, Sofia, Talinn, Vilnius).

Thank you! I added the little “M” next to your name.

thegiddystitcher,
@thegiddystitcher@lemm.ee avatar

Yay! Thank you! ❤ I think unless we decided to actively try and do something with the community that requires work, it’s really once in a blue moon mods are needed here. The original owner was missing for like 5 months and we were just fine, after all! But it’s good to know someone else is around if one of us is on holiday or sick or whatever, we don’t have to worry.

When I took over knitting we talked about what rules and whatnot made sense there, most of that will probably apply here too (especially since it’s a lot of the same people in both!) but I’ll handle putting that to the community over the next few days because right now I have a stonking headache.

Ah I totally did an irl happy clap when I read your decision, haha 😄

frickineh, in Seeking new mod(s) for this community

I’m willing to do it but only if I can have some kind of extra power, like invisibility or flight or my floss never knotting. You know, something impossible.

thegiddystitcher,
@thegiddystitcher@lemm.ee avatar

Best I can do is a little M next to your name and the ability to muck up the sidebar markdown and embarrass yourself.

probablynaked, in [FO] Cute Alpaca

Difference is night and day seriously! End result looks like an illustration

IoSapsai, in All the presents I stitched!

Oh wow, they look fantastic! Hope you feel better soon!

ObsidianButterfly, in All the presents I stitched!

Wow, they are so cute.

MrJameGumb,
@MrJameGumb@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks! They were all really fun, but the snowglobe was a lot more challenging than the others lol

casmael, in Getting wild on NYE

Oooo what a nice crow

frickineh,

Thank you! I’m pretty happy with how it came out, even if there was a little cursing as I did roughly 80 billion tiny split stitches.

casmael,

Well you’ve done a good job it’s very convincingly extremely black 👍👍

just_chill, in Getting wild on NYE

That looks really clean, I love it !

crystalmerchant, in Getting wild on NYE

Keep up the cross stitch content posts!!

Mickey, in Question: cross stitching on things besides fabric?

Yeah you can definitely do this! There are lots of kits on Etsy that are exactly like this in wood or plastic. Just make sure the holes are smooth and won’t catch the threads and damage them.

MrJameGumb,
@MrJameGumb@lemmy.world avatar

I was thinking I might taper the holes so there aren’t any sharp edges

RobotToaster, in Question: cross stitching on things besides fabric?

They make a plastic mesh called granny grating for this I think.

MrJameGumb,
@MrJameGumb@lemmy.world avatar

I already have the parts I want to use, but something like this would definitely help me transfer the pattern!

stevestevesteve, in WIP Wednesday!

Nitpicking but I can’t help but read this as though he’s talking to a man he’s describing as careful. You might want to add another comma

probablynaked, in WIP Wednesday!

Post this to the Achievers community!

MrJameGumb,
@MrJameGumb@lemmy.world avatar

I plan to post it there as soon as it’s done! I’m working on the border now!

IoSapsai, in WIP Wednesday!

Started a new project. This will take more than a year for sure. Full coverage of a Rembrandt painting done in needlepoint. Wanted to start the new thread but I had some federation issues from Mastodon.

A WIP needlepoint project

MrJameGumb,
@MrJameGumb@lemmy.world avatar

That sounds fun! Which Rembrandt painting will it be?

IoSapsai,

Jeremiah Lamenting the Destruction of Jerusalem.

I’m not religious or the type of person to do this type of projects but I really liked the kit when I saw it in my local sewing shop so I had to buy it. It’s not going to look as good as the painting but I wanted a big project. The materials are locally produced and the company is also local and rather small (the quality is rather shoddy but it’s not too bad). The purchase also supports the small shop, which I adore.

MrJameGumb,
@MrJameGumb@lemmy.world avatar

Wow! That will look amazing when it’s done! Does the shop do online orders? I might get a kit too if they have other ones that nice!

IoSapsai,

Sadly they only do phonecall orders and the closest I could find to an online store is a facebook page. I’m fairly certain they’ve been doing this since Soviet times when needlepoint was a very popular pastime (still is among older people, young people would rather cross stitch or crochet). I wouldn’t be surprised if the people doing this are past retirement age and not the most tech savvy. Also judging by the price tags on the mouline it might have been manufactured last century as I can’t see any way for a skein to be sold for 0.05$ in today’s money. It’s also thinner than DMC so I work in 2 strands even though the aida is about 24-26ct.

Still around and stitching! Behold progress. 🙂

He looks like Totoro’s evil twin lol! You’re making great progress!

I had that thought myself. 🤣
