IoSapsai,

Started a new project. This will take more than a year for sure. Full coverage of a Rembrandt painting done in needlepoint. Wanted to start the new thread but I had some federation issues from Mastodon.

A WIP needlepoint project

IoSapsai,

Jeremiah Lamenting the Destruction of Jerusalem.

I’m not religious or the type of person to do this type of projects but I really liked the kit when I saw it in my local sewing shop so I had to buy it. It’s not going to look as good as the painting but I wanted a big project. The materials are locally produced and the company is also local and rather small (the quality is rather shoddy but it’s not too bad). The purchase also supports the small shop, which I adore.

IoSapsai,

Sadly they only do phonecall orders and the closest I could find to an online store is a facebook page. I’m fairly certain they’ve been doing this since Soviet times when needlepoint was a very popular pastime (still is among older people, young people would rather cross stitch or crochet). I wouldn’t be surprised if the people doing this are past retirement age and not the most tech savvy. Also judging by the price tags on the mouline it might have been manufactured last century as I can’t see any way for a skein to be sold for 0.05$ in today’s money. It’s also thinner than DMC so I work in 2 strands even though the aida is about 24-26ct.

IoSapsai,

Oh wow, they look fantastic! Hope you feel better soon!

IoSapsai,

Look, I am considering it. I have some serious issues with Lemmy lately, especially after the new update that broke jerboa for me. Even after updating the app it still barely works. Rest of the apps seem to make my phone freeze for whatever reason. I’ll try sorting that out and consider volunteering!

IoSapsai,

Alright, I switched to voyager and everything resolved. It seems to work fine now after they rolled out a bunch of updates. It needs some getting used to but I wasn’t happy with jerboa anyway. It was less of a lemm.ee issue and more of devs not updating their fdroid release on time.

I decided to volunteer as a mod. I’ve never been one but I imagine it’s not a full time job modding a community like this like you said. My timezone is UTC+2 (Helsinki, Kiyv, Riga, Sofia, Talinn, Vilnius).

IoSapsai,

It was fun having to go to work yesterday morning. Nothing was cleared up, no way for cars to get to my house so I had to make a trek by foot. This morning was worse because some of the snow had melted during the day yesterday and it refroze. Everything is slippery now.

One thing outside observers need to know is how incompetent the municipality services are. They knew in advance that this storm was coming. There were warnings all week. It came a day late here so they had extra time. The municipality website showed no information, just some cultural events and an article from two days ago that “the municipality is ready for the winter”. At this point we have a saying for poor organisation during winter time when everyone knows it’s coming in advance:

“The winter surprised us again!”

IoSapsai,

Rather not say but across the border south, about 4-5 hours from Bucharest.

IoSapsai,

While it really does feel like it, as a person working in healthcare, I do see some change after the whole shitstorm from recent years.

  • There are people who actually wear a mask, few, but they are around.
  • A lot more people seem to be conscious of spreading their illness to other people be it a cold or COVID.
  • People definitely wash their hands more often. I know we do.
  • Some people started getting their annual shots when they didn’t intend to before.
  • Local businesses open their windows and doors a lot more than they used to.

But also I also see some negative tendencies:

  • Interest in flu shots has waned. That might have something to do with the govt introducing a free flu shot programme from your GP if you’re above 65 or with specific conditions (which is a great thing) But I definitely see a lot more vaxx-scepticism and fear of combining both shots (infant vaccination plans are a lot more intense and the vast majority are fine).
  • People politicising a disease.
  • This is country specific but food supplement companies aggressively promoting “immune system stimulants” to the point where in the beginning of The Plague™ they somehow managed to include them in hospital treatment plans.

This came out longer than intended but there were some things that I needed to get out of my system.

IoSapsai,

Tales of Maj’eyal. A free to play open source roguelike that I hate. This game is amazing. Fuck this game. Also definitely recommend. But fuck this game. After numerous 10-12 hour long runs, I have yet to win.
