There are times I hike out to the woods and find a nice spot where I can’t hear the lawn mowers, the car horns and tires, the barking dogs. I don’t smell the exhaust fumes and fertilizer. Nothing around me but birds, breeze, animals scurrying around, bugs in the grass.
These moments are so precious. I can turn the modern brain off for a bit and just be an animal in nature.
I thought I once read that gifted kids were just ahead in ability and what happens is eventually the rest of the kids in their class close that gap and catch up just by maturing. We just mature at different rates. But we all see it like just because a kid understood things earlier like its an advantage for life
Yeah I plateaued in my early teens. I know I’m intelligent and have a curious mind that means I read a lot, self educate etc. But I’m no smarter than my peers ever were. I was just ‘advanced’ as a kid. Meant I didn’t take schooling seriously and formed arrogance about my abilities, well before realising that they’re pretty mediocre in most things. Jack of All trades, master of none. Hold myself to ridiculous standards that I’ll never meet.
Nepotism abounds probably, half the shareholders inherited wealth and didn't earn it, so they probably don't know how to run the company as well as the people who built it, enjoy the "we're all a family" talk, while your manager hires his son timmy to be your boss despite zero experience or qualifications.
Ten bucks a month from day 1, it’s what Reddit decided my service price was, and while I know that is inflated at least 10x, I’d rather support myself and ten other users than give spez a radioactive dime from my own pocket.
The point is imagining that others would look up to you*
*While in reality, literally not a single person on earth gives even the tiniest fuck about you wasting money on a useless, annoyingly noisy and wasteful fucking car. Exceptions are 5 year olds and people who never exceeded that intellectual level.
Meme actually means something and isn’t just “funny image.” We no longer have a word for what a meme actually is. I didn’t care about the meaning of ironic changing because there’s still words for that but this is different.
This makes me get meta very fast: OP created this post, so they aren’t lurking. It’s isn’t their first meme either, the profile shows about a meme per day.
So the lurking part isn’t about OP. But is the other? Is it like everyone should contribute, even lurkers; or is it rather if you don’t contributing via post, at least support financially?
Neither would be morally bad, don’t get me wrong. I’m writing this to distract from the fact that I’m in the upper category of the meme.
I started donating $1 per month, which I probably wouldn’t have if you hadn’t posted the link (happy to contribute, but honestly I lack the motivation to seek out the opportunity myself), so it did make a difference!
Jokings and donations to the development of Lemmy aside, aren’t we a whole nation of Lemmy server hosters with no users just hoping you’d come over make communities and stuff?
