I mean, both have toxic stupid people, but Reddit does still have way more niche communities and activity. I still rarely go back to Reddit, and mostly chill on lemmy.ca, but it is missing many subreddits I liked.
Personally, a post expressing displeasure about what others are posting rings a bit hollow when it comes from an account that has been around for months but has not posted or commented anything prior to this.
Oh no someone wants a break from politics??? Unbelievable, the whole world is falling apart and they want to take a break??? Un… fucing… believable. BTW anyone who disagrees with me is a Nazi! (what an original insult)
You know, I appreciate Chomsky, but his work is mainly intended to get you reading and thinking more on your own than to give you all the answers. Not everything that happens in the news media is a distraction from something else just because he broke down that one propaganda trick really well. Sometimes, events stay glued to our screens because they really are the main propaganda event of the day, and they really do want you to spend all day and all night thinking about it.
In this case, Israel needs tons and tons of people frothing at the mouth supporting genocide, and Palestinians are needing just as many, if not more, to consider that genocide may be wrong, and they’re playing tug-of-war in the media. That’s all I’m seeing.
Exactly, It’s a commonly cited example from Manufacturing Consent because he broke it down really well there. But everybody who just read Chomsky for the first time then goes out and tries to correlate every single front-page story with the back-page story it’s supposed to be covering up, like they’ve only ever used a single propaganda technique or being predictable wouldn’t undermine the value of the propaganda.
There’s straight up disinformation, doublespeak, dogwhistles, reliance on fallacy, appeals to authority fear and prejudice, ad hominems, cherry picking, demonization/dehumanization of opponents, etc.
Too much blue light. I want a mode that limits blue light in the evening, and I don’t want to have to switch modes during any given day.
So, night mode it is.
It’s just part of my sleep cycle management, alongside watching caffeine in the afternoons and trying to keep a somewhat consistent schedule. If I stop, I’ll start running into trouble.
First noticed the problem appearing in my 30s, and eventually figured out that sleep is just too important to fuck with.
I can’t interact with politics in a level-headed way, I just word-blocked the current incident and all the politics servers. It sucks not to know what’s going on but I can’t trust myself, I’ll just get emotional and make a fool of myself. Political memes that don’t use any of those words directly still come up, but at least it’s less.
Problem with using chains like this as meme templates is it wastes a lot of time by making people read through the chronologically previous entries to make sure the creator used the same “tree” everyone else is.
They just don’t scale very well. So, more people are just going to dump their contributions in the comments than usual, instead of bothering to make an image version.
They just don’t work as well, which imo, is why they’re fairly rare despite being often pretty funny and good.
One of the things Tumblr did better than everyone else. It’s chained reblogs don’t resize the original post and you can watch the chain in chronological order. You could’ve seen it in screencaps made there. Sometimes it leads to really cool random collabs.
