I lay my shirts flat on a side table. Much quicker than hanging or folding, and still prevents wrinkles. Socks, underwear, and jeans I don’t fold, but I separate into different piles that go in drawers and shelves.
Weird meme… is it making fun of how neoliberalism is capitalism, or excluding right-wingers from neoliberal by supposing it’s anti-capitalist? Neoliberalism is a capitalist consensus. If we’re talking US politics, both of the main parties represent factions of neoliberalism. It started with Carter’s deregulations but neoliberal Reaganomics is basically the full-in commitment. Arguably we’ve moved past the neoliberal era since the 2008 crash and are now left with the mechanisms of neoliberalism minus the sincere belief in it.
Have you noticed how Biden has embraced Trump era tariffs while two Republican speakers passed spending bills with no cuts? Milton Friedman would not be happy about this.
Yup there’s no alternative being offered to the current economic arrangement, the parties offer different brands of neoliberalism. Democrats want to ensure everyone can be included in this system, or at least the idea that everyone can. You get this in things like Kamala’s “authentically me” videos or the tax incentives, just work hard and you’ll succeed. Republicans offer a more fashy brand of it with the socially reactionary pandering but economically they generally pass bland neoliberal shit with extra loosening of regulations. Like Biden’s biggest legislative victory is probably the CPA/Consumer Protection Act which restricted conditions people could file chapter 11, this benefits the debt holders ie credit card companies at the expense of making sure less people can escape their debts.
I think the “kids in cages” issue highlights how these things are processed by these politics. That treatment of immigrants is a byproducts of this neoliberal capitalist structure, people know it’s wrong and use these politics as a way to morally absolve themselves when opportunities arise. Democrats being in power doesn’t change the kids in cages, if anything climate change and mass migration will only get worse, however now it’s not politically convenient for the kids in cages to be an issue. The result is it continues and people wash their hands clean by pointing to the other neoliberal faction as the source of the blame, when the issue is the system itself and having no alternative option.
I’m assuming this is a critique on the media stoking fears in midwestern Americans. Like, if you don’t support the genocide, Hamas is going to destroy the things you love.
Tail as old as time. I remember living in Iowa through several of the last “threats”. Midwesterners stocked up thinking they were going to be the first in the nation. Yes Fred, I’m sure the order is going to go New York, LA, Lake Okiboji in Iowa, Chicago.
The gestures broadly is more of a take your pick it’s not a trick question kind of answer. If you need to know the names of some random stores I’ll pick some. Walmart, Costco, target, home depot. These were selected at random from a top 10 retailer list. Now I think what this person was saying is that these all become Christmas stores during this period of the year. Yes they still sell other things but there probably isn’t enough Christmas things to dedicate to that size of a store. So they make 20% of it Christmas crap and keep selling the other crap because they know it’s profitable. They do the same for Halloween but probably to a lesser extent
You still get pop up Christmas stores as well. They’re not a chain or anything just privately owned stores where they lease out an unused shop for a month or two just to peddle allsorts of Christmas stuff from it
Nowhere near equally. “Halloween music” is much rarer, and doesn’t get blasted in shops and on the radio 24/7 for a month. “Halloween films” are also barely a thing, and horror films don’t count.
a month if you’re lucky. they started blasting it a week into November where I work. I’m so tired of hearing the same songs over and over again, and the 6 different covers of “All I Want For Christmas Is You”
By the power granted to me by podcasts, I can complete any mundane task. Handling the laundry is no problem at all. I even hang-dry my clothes these days for reduced energy usage and lower wear on the clothes, and the hanging part doesn’t bother me at all.
the other day i asked my coworkers that “doesn’t that bother you that some of your apps are always listening to you?” they said “i’m not saying anything illegal and when i see a product that i was talking about, it’s almost like a reminder, otherwise i would forget all abou it”.
