shouldnt the trex have feathers n shit too?

loaExMachina,

Debatable, but the common consensus is that T-Rex had little to no feather. At the very least, the feathers couldn’t have covered all of the body because T-Rex skin imprints have been found without feathers, tho they’re not of all the skin, so there still may have been some feathered parts.

The idea that T-Rex had feathers didn’t come from nowhere tho : We have many evidence of feathered dinosaurs from many groups. The T-Rex is niched within the coelurosauria clade, which includes many dinosaurs that are mostly covered in feathers (and even modern birds). There’s even a close relative of T-Rex, Yutyrannus, with evidence of wide feather covering.

The reason why T-Rex didn’t have that much feathers is likely the same reason why elephants aren’t hairy : Big animals have less problem keeping heat, and may even at some point have problem evacuating excess heat (and yes, many dinosaurs were warm blooded). So as T-Rex got bigger, feathers became more of a hindrance.

Jorgelino, (edited )

I’ve heard that they might’ve been covered in feathers as children, but didn’t grow any more as they got older, so they’d be spread out, not covering much, which is also how it works with elephants and hair.

Marcumas, in How I like my pi

Does anyone have a link for how to set up a pihole that a dumb dumb like me could understand?

areyouevenreal,

Honestly don’t bother. Ublock is better at blocking ads. Pihole is for devices on your network that can’t use conventional ad blockers and is less effective.

If you are not so fit in this questions is better to install Portmaster, its downloading and run it, not much more to do (blocking or give permissions to connecting to the network to your apps. Maybe sellecting an DNS which fits your needs in the settings. It’s way easier to handle than Pi Hole. It even has an SPN (its like a VPN on steroids), but its an paid option.

If you put the empty side towards the top of the machine, that works first try 95% of the time. For desktops, the top of the machine is motherboard side up.

brokenlcd,

That only works if the pc is laying on the long side; most modern pc cases are made to stand only on the short side; kind of a bummer for people like me that still have a desk made to have the pc under the monitor

LouisGarbuor,

That is what I meant. With desktops that are short side down, the motherboard side with the CPU socket, PCIe slots, etc. should be considered as upwards

brokenlcd,

Oh right, sorry i didn’t realise you had already wiritten it.

LouisGarbuor,

No worries, I probably could have worded it better anyways

HopFlop,

Yeah but cant you just remember the orientation of your USB porta after having used them for a couple of years?

pedz, (edited ) in Pipe

As another comment points out, there is a mistake with the second sentence.

The word combination works but it does not contradict the first negation.

Ceci n’est pas une pipe = This is not a pipe

C’est une pipe = It’s a pipe

What you want is to simply remove the negative “n’ + pas”.

Ceci est une pipe = This is a pipe

With other examples…

Ceci est un garçon = This is a boy

Ceci n’est pas un garçon = This is not a boy

C’est une fille = It’s a girl

Ceci est une fille = This is a girl

Ceci n’est pas une fille = This is not a girl

Ceci est un commentaire = This is a comment

Ceci n’est pas un commentaire = This is not a comment

C’est simple n’est-ce pas? = It’s simple is it not?

Asafum,

Wait wait wait… So I only know a small amount of French and mostly from media I’ve watched, so unless I’m mixing words here when I’ve heard “garçon” (pronounced garsonne?) in a restaurant, they’re literally calling the waiter “boy?”

Hazmatastic,

You are correct. This is mentioned in the opening scene of Pulp Fiction by the way.

Asafum,

Thanks! It’s been such a long time since I watched that, looks like I need to watch it again lol

pedz, (edited )

Indeed. Never gave a second thought to the word but apparently it’s the name of a young male servant. The pronunciation ends with a nasal vowel as there is no trailing “e” at the end. In IPA that’s /ɡaʁ.sɔ̃/. If you say /ɡaʁ.ɔn/ it makes it sound female.

Un patron = male owner

Une patronne = female owner

Anticorp, in Rules for thee but not for me

Before we eulogize the doomed Presidential campaign of Ron DeSantis, can we take a moment to marvel at the fact that the Republican party has been unable to find anyone who can legitimately challenge a nearly 78-year-old twice-impeached, historically unpopular former President facing 91 criminal charges? The GOP lost in 2018, 2020, and 2022 because Donald Trump was the face of the party, and the party is still going to trot him out because they’re all scared of a man who spends much of his day ALL CAPS yelling gibberish on a social media site that he owns and that is even more unpopular than Twitter. Sad.
