Holy shit, this movie looks awesome! This is definitely going to be a movie worth paying tickets for. Great visuals, stunning effects, powerhouse cast with fun dialog. March can’t come soon enough!
One of the comments said they can’t get through any Scorsese movies but I can and have enjoyed them too. I also think there’s room for superhero movies and enjoy them too.
It’s like the poor argument that some people make against Andor saying “it’s not Star Wars”. Extremely short-sighted in a vast galaxy to explore that can come from different angles. Personally, Andor is the best Star Wars. I don’t think it all needs to be like Andor, as there’s room for Jedi, Sith and light sabers, but it is a testament to the quality the property can achieve.
also not quite the same thing, but Jodorowsky’s Dune is a doco about a version of the Dune movie that never got made. also the older Dune movie by David Lynch is not good, but a ride none the less!
The Ritual - psuedo-Lovecraftian horror with no explanation No One Gets Out Alive - more psuedo-Lovecraftian horror with no explanation Mama - Guillermo del Toro is awesome NightBooks - Sam Raimi Hansel & Gretel tale that’s tame enough for the kids but spooky enough for the adults
Those are some that I hadn’t seen before this season. I pretty much watch horror from mid-September on, so there’s a bunch of the old favorites that got watched, but these surprised me.
Come to Daddy (2020) is one of my absolute favorite horror comedies. It’s not Halloween-related at all but it’s so weird and dark and twisted that I recommend it to anyone who will listen.
How did this slip under my radar? I love Elijah Wood’s project choices the last decade. He takes chances and makes some weird stuff that I love. Thanks for the rec!
This reminded me of when I saw Lotr rotk and had to piss sooo bad for like the last 45 minutes. It was finally ending and wrapping up after the last battle and I was so happy to finally be able to go soon and then so sad when I realized there was still the whole part where they go back to the shire and have to fight Saruman. Thankfully they didn’t include that and I made it in time bit that’s always what I think of when long ass movies don’t have an intermission.
Someone needs to remind Scorsese that he makes an entertainment product, one of many, he is not redefining the meaning of life itself. Hell, here is a hot take, the old Jim Carrey movie “The Mask” is a better movie than anything Scorsese has ever made. I can say I go back to watch The Mask more anyway. He needs to stop huffing his own farts.
