ShinningSUN, in Found a bunch of large, fleshy and hard mushrooms today. Been spending the last 2 hours trying to identify them. Help is appreciated! (Mt Hood National Forest, OR)

I know of a reputable source that can help you out whenever it comes to finding psychedelics like shrooms ,maybe I can introduce the details to any lol that’s trying to grow some spores nor order some psychedelics like shrooms

Google search says it’s russula adusta

More info:

I cut one in half about 20 minutes ago. So far no discoloration. The smell is sweet, almost reminds me of melons? One of them has a slight orange spot in the gills that I assume is bruising.

It looks like white oyster mushroom which are super delicious. Theres a mushroom app called picture mushroom, where you take a picture and it tells you about it, so id check that first. If you like mushrooms then you’re lucky to have these growing here!

WhyAreWeHappy,

Yes, they are delicious. A pain to clean though, there must be a trick to it that I haven’t figured out yet.

WhyAreWeHappy,

I agree, I will do a more detailed identification before cooking it up for the family. They call these “The Prince” around here.

ForestOrca,
@ForestOrca@kbin.social avatar

The Prince is a common name for A. augustus. Maybe do a spore print, just to be sure. Did you find a lot?

WhyAreWeHappy,

This is the second one to show up (see my previous post). The deer got the first one and have now ate it down to the ground.

It smells like sweet almonds.

ForestOrca,
@ForestOrca@kbin.social avatar

The scent is right. And that deer eat it, makes it sound like food. That's how I first found white chanterelles.

Cap, in Just started showing up in our chipped wood mulch

Are those edible?

The_Cleanup_Batter,

There’s at least one way to find out…

ShinningSUN,

I prefer ordering psychedelics like shrooms online smoothly without having any difficulties

Psilocybe cubensis are much more resilient than people give them credit for and are really easy to grow. UB tek is great if you don’t want to mess around with pressure sterilization or anything like that.

WhyAreWeHappy,

Oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus). I picked and dried a bunch two years ago and we’ve been adding them to soups and sauces. We’re still alive and well.

My friend, all fungi are edible, but some fungi are only edible once.

Colour_me_triggered, in Absolute unit on the west coast

I’m not a mycologist, but it looks a bit like a pavement mushroom I found in Norway. But that looks bigger. Probably something like agaricus arvensis, but I’m not a mycologist and only have a slight interest in the field. The real answer is it’s probably an agaricus of some type or another, but don’t eat it.

WhyAreWeHappy,

Thanks for your input and narrowing it down to agaricus. Agaricus augustus seems more prevalent in our area and matches the description on local online sites. This species is apparently edible but I’m afraid this particular one is well past its prime picking time.

treefrog,

agaricus was my thought too

It looks like a mushroom trying to make a phone call on a banana.

I wasn’t expecting the banana for scale, it made me laugh. Thank you!

I was going to ask for a banana for a scale and I was surprised that OP actually placed a banana in the picture. This also made me laugh.

Looks like a deer chomped it and was possibly spooked before it could finish? Are there tracks around the area?

WhyAreWeHappy,

I was thinking it was a deer also and maybe our dog spooked him off before he finished his meal. We have a lot of blacktail deer here. They eat everything, and our landscaping reflects their appetite.

Piecemakers3Dprints,
@Piecemakers3Dprints@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, I’d guess it took the first test bite from the front right (hence the gills left intact) and then a more confident chomp from the left. Both are from an upper angle, and the teeth seem far too large for anything smaller that might nosh on rando fungi (raccoons, squirrels, rabbits, etc.), so your local blacktail are my bet. 🤓

OrderedChaos,

Chomp, nosh,… Please do continue. I am immensely enjoying your use of words I haven’t heard in a while. :)

Ha! I enjoy the vibrant diversity of the English language and do try to paint with it sometimes. Besides, my gramma always said, “Don’t use the same word twice in short succession. That’s lazy.” 😅

OrderedChaos,

She is very wise. 😆

antlion, in Researchers Test Microdosing Psilocybin on Rats to Create Treatment for Mental Disorders
@antlion@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

This seems kind of silly to me. This is a drug that affects the brain, and that is nearly harmless at the microdose level. Just test on human volunteers. That way your results have useful clinical meaning. You can’t really ask the rats how they felt after the regimen.

treefrog,

They are, but placebo makes it difficult to measure.

This study proves more is going on then placebo and will surely help more funding go into human studies.

It’s certainly not silly. But I keep pet rats and I do find the methods used in animal studies often cruel. This one included.

But it’s not silly.

  • treefrog,

    Was your dose frequency every other day?

    I have a friend wanting to microdose and want her to be aware of your experience and possible withdrawal symptoms. The study used every other day which I would assume would minimize withdrawal considering psilocybin has a short half-life.

    But I haven’t tried microing in years and when I did I only stuck with it for a week.

    Ahh… I’ve gone through SSRI withdrawal and I thought maybe something similar could be happening because of the repeated dosing.

    Yup. Was on venlafaxine and then duloxotine. Had to switch to Prozac and taper that.

    It sucked.

    havokdj,

    This only ever happened to me whenever I got REALLY high, I equate it to a drunken burp, people don’t really like them but I think they feel kind of good actually.
