Atemu, in Librewolf but like... for chromium?

Why bother with such micro optimisations when the purpose is to be used extremely infrequently for compatibility reasons?

BearOfaTime,

Por que no los dos?

Illecors, in Two minutes of DuckDuckGo rearranging & dropping results for the same search; Bing, Startpage, & DDG all unreliable vs. Google :(

I get the same issue all the time lately. Search, click link, go back - clicked link gone, different results shown.

akilou,

I get this but never clicked link gone. Rearranged or added results.

Squizzy,

Yep same here

@Akasazh@feddit.nl avatar

I always use mousewheeldown click nowadays, it opens the link in a new tab.

Also mwd on the tabs themselves close the tab (without needing to hit the tiny cross).

Changed the way I browse

Illecors,

That’s what I do on the desktop, but on mobile there’s no quick way to open a new tab.

Ferk, (edited )
@Ferk@kbin.social avatar

Would it help turning on the setting to have the links always open in a new tab?
It's been a long time since I used ddg, but I believe they have the option in their settings page, most search engines do.

Illecors,

While this is not a bad shout, I hate that this rearranging logic has made it to production in the first place. Ddg should really know better.

    Nah, it can be encrypted. Fuck this bullshit, we have the technology, I shouldn’t need to log into everything or open every 1/5000 apps to get quick cues/updates. Apple needs to fuck off with the spying bullshit, even the governmen itself (lawmakers like Wyden are saying fuck this shit and shining a light+exposing it) is saying enough in the way it can.

    Republicans/Democrats/humans who don’t want all their private data becoming endless Kompromat should be united on this, they have a hell of a lot more to hide than any of us singular private citizens

    Edit: 💡on second thought, I switched to Never for “Show Previews” and I kinda like the way it keeps me on my toes and attentive to what it could be (anticipatory and curious). Maybe its just as well. Time will tell

    Bronco1676, (edited ) in want a youtube discovery alternative

    Not personalized. But what I personally use from time to time is the invidious popular feed, some invidious instances have the popular feed turned on, which shows popular videos streamed on that instance.

    Instance list: docs.invidious.io/instances/

    Example instance: vid.puffyan.us/feed/popular

    Resol, in Is YouTube starting another attack on third party clients?
    @Resol@lemmy.world avatar

    I guess the migration to PeerTube is waiting to happen.

    possiblylinux127,

    Honestly the third party clients should allow users to upload content and comment

    @Resol@lemmy.world avatar

    They don’t? That’s lame.

    wincing_nucleus073,

    lol peertube is a joke. all the instances arent allowing registration, from my last check.

    That really sucks.

    @jvrava9@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    I guess a web app manager like native a would work but I suggest paying for an account.

    JSens1998, (edited ) in Anyone know how to get multiple Protonmail free tier accounts on an android phone?

    Download the ProtonMail apk from a trusted place such as APKMirror, and then use Revanced Manager to change the package name. Install the patched app and profit! You can do this over and over again.

    QuazarOmega, (edited ) in Anyone know how to get multiple Protonmail free tier accounts on an android phone?

    I support what the others say, it’s cool if you can pay, but it’s not a must IMO. If you’re fine with the base tier, or can’t/don’t want to pay for more, there’s no shame in that.
    Shelter works fine to keep two accounts, which should be enough hopefully, otherwise you will have to use the web client.
    There was an experimental app that allowed you to have a potentially unlimited number of duplicate apps (twoyi), but it’s sadly discontinued, there’s also another called MultiApp, but there’s something yiffy about it I can’t quite put into words

    No issue here.

    Same… it’s probably OP’s📱 phone

    brbposting,

    Is this to mean you believe DDG was presenting identical results with each refresh/new search, while my browser failed to properly display what was returned?

    Or perhaps something else?

    (I’m not an engineer, just doing my best heh - thanks)

    Cyberbatman, (edited )

    I did see DDG doing different search but all within the three 1st searches. In the meantime the results on Yandex after refreshing were all the Same … Hope that helps you

    brbposting,

    Thank you!

    brbposting,

    Thanks for testing. What did you try? Any of the same refreshing + intermixing completely clearing cache/cookies/history?

    My environment: iPhone 14 Pro using Firefox Focus 120.0. Saw the same rearranging behavior in Orion on iOS as well.

    They are a great company and are worth supporting in my opinion, they do care about privacy, are based in Switzerland of which was chosen as the location for its strong privacy laws and commitment to protecting user data.

    Edit: they just emailed me announcing that they have a 40% end of year sale right now. (absolutely not affiliated)

    I wish they could just sell email addresses for those that are hard up for money, but for me, I ended up paying for the mid-tier package for aforementioned reasons.

    mypasswordis1234, in Using a VPN to California or Colorado to increase privacy
    @mypasswordis1234@lemmy.world avatar

    Do you seriously think these data hungry companies will care about your IP location and won’t fingerprint you? I doubt it.

    KLISHDFSDF,
    @KLISHDFSDF@lemmy.ml avatar

    Not all, but some will and that’s good enough. Security and privacy is all about layers, not guaranteed solutions.

    That said, if you have “business” with a company, they are probably using your registered home address to understand how to deal with your local laws/regulations. e.g. If you’re using a registered google account and don’t have an address in a state that offers protection, its very unlikely they’ll extend any privacy policies to you just because your IP says you’re in California, for example.

    OTOH, if you don’t have a registered address/account/profile and your IP is coming out of California, its possible some companies will apply stricter policies based on your preference.

    To your original point though, yes, shady companies will continue to behave in unethical ways.
