totallynotfbi, in Anyone know how to stop running into this in Safari on iOS 17, without getting rid of my privacy extensions?

Interesting - I’ve visited this site before on my phone, and there’s usually a button below the ‘Disable my adblocker’ button, allowing you to bypass the message. Guess they’ve changed it :/

lemann, in Anyone know how to stop running into this in Safari on iOS 17, without getting rid of my privacy extensions?

Of course its Admiral AAB 😭

Does safari have a reader mode you can use to bypass it? I use a FF extension that allows me to disable all scripts on a page when I come across junk like this.

Alternatively just chuck the link into Wayback or archive.is

Reverendender,

Reader did work

BearOfaTime, in Why Even Your Local Grocery Store Wants Your Digital Data

It’s interesting to me to see articles about this now, when the first rewards card I saw (every bit of 20 years ago) it was obvious why they would give you such steep discounts for using nothing more than a free card.

And even if you ‘exit’ to the woods, you’ll be easy to note, just by your absence (When the majority of the population are present, it is easier to note who is absent).

But we have to keep pushing back about these absurdities.

VolunTerry,

Precisely. Avoiding the pitfalls of modern tech and actively pursuing privacy strangely and conversely makes you stand out more, not less.

Yeldarb12, in Anyone know how to stop running into this in Safari on iOS 17, without getting rid of my privacy extensions?

I don’t use Safari but you can try making sure all of the extensions are up to date.

Reverendender,

What do you use, and how do you have it set up?

NamelessGO,

Use Adguard as extension to block ads, works fine here (Safari from M1)

inson1, in When a service advertise as 100% open source, do you expect the website to be open-source too?

yes

wincing_nucleus073, in Best way to get private phone number?

what exactly are you trying to do? you are being very unclear

milkytoast,
@milkytoast@kbin.social avatar

get a phone number not linked to my name that i columns use for a PayPal and whatnot

wincing_nucleus073,

to them buy monero? why not just do monero for cash? you’re over complicating

milkytoast,
@milkytoast@kbin.social avatar

idk bit of a hassle to meet up with someone and I don't trust the us postal system with cash in an envelope

wincing_nucleus073,

do a postal money order or something. anyway you’re making this way over complicated. but you do you.

wincing_nucleus073, in Verizon Gave Phone Data to Armed Stalker Who Posed as Cop Over Email

seriously? they got duped by a random protonmail account? good grief, actual retards work for verizon.

this should highlight why you should always protect yourself from these soulless uncaring corporate gargantuans that have zero desire to protect your basic data.

use PO boxes, JMP.chat numbers, email aliases, etc. never give out info that can be used to screw you over.

wincing_nucleus073, in YouTube adds tracking parameters to shared URLs that can be traced back to individual Google accounts

if i open a youtube link with a share id in newpipe, am I still ok, does it ignore the id? or do i need to delete the id first?

bernard, in Deciding between Fairphone 5 and Pixel 8

Fairphone should provide you sufficient privacy and security and give you ethical points. I have played with many OS’s. GrapheneOS is hands down the best. I have used it for years. If only it would run on a fairly built device such as Fairphone, it would be stellar.

wincing_nucleus073, in Telegram Android Notifications

i assume that the official telegram client uses FCM. but the Telegram FOSS client on Fdroid and its forks use a background service.

bernard, in Michael Bazzell's Irish Exit

Yeah we all move on in life to other things. He provided a great information service to many of us. I am happy to see he is well.

Curious_Canid, in Any *good* keyboard recommations?
@Curious_Canid@lemmy.ca avatar

Every years or so I try out a bunch of alternate keyboards. Then I go back to using Gboard. {sigh}

I’ve been using swipe typing for years and I just can’t get by without it. None of the privacy oriented keyboards do it well enough to really be usable yet.

akilou,

Almost exactly my situation, expect predictions over swiping and Swiftkey over gboard.

Skimmer, in Any *good* keyboard recommations?

Not sure how it hasn’t been said yet, but I really like Helium314’s OpenBoard fork. Can’t recommend enough.

potemkinhr, in Telegram Android Notifications
@potemkinhr@lemmy.ml avatar

I’ve noticed notifications are working sporadically now for quite some time (at least half a year now) for both Android (both Play store version and APK) and iOS from my experience. Only on the deskptop version of it are notifications instant, hope they will fix it at some point
