SuperiorOne, in Have you tried LocalGPT PrivateGPT or other similar alternatives to ChatGPT?

I’m actively using ollama with docker to run llama2:13b model. It’s generally works fine but heavy on resources as expected.

TCB13, in Have you tried LocalGPT PrivateGPT or other similar alternatives to ChatGPT?
@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, mostly gpt4all.io only to find out that even the “uncensored” models are bullshit and won’t even provide you with a Windows XP Pro key. That’s kind of my benchmark for models nowadays. :P

cashews_best_nut,

tinsuke, in Any good RSS Feed service for self-hosting?

I haven’t used it, but it is on my bookmarks for when Feedly stops working for me: github.com/FreshRSS/FreshRSS

ferngully, in authentik .. how to backup ?

You should only have to backup the Postgres database. But it won’t hurt to have a copy of your compose file as well.

This GitHub issue has the steps you should use. And answers all your other questions too.

kristoff,

Great thanks! (also thanks to Mike … you have some valid points)

Be careful that sometimes these providers will shut you down for hosting media servers. Even if your content is not illegally obtained.

You can probsbly ignore the idle power consomuption and enable Wake On LAN and turn it on and of over the network. Is that a solution for you?

Still,
@Still@programming.dev avatar

one of those pi kvms or the like could turn on any system even if it doesn’t support wake on lan

Mantis8497,

With all the helpful comments shared in this thread, I’m starting to realize that this approach is likely the only viable solution.

Previously when doing my research, I was naive enough that when people said “…30W at idle”, it was specifically for their GPU, and not for their whole system. So now things makes a lot more sense.

Crack0n7uesday, in I'm new to networking and self-hosting and have no idea where to start.

Networking will take you from being “they guy that fixes computers” to full blown Telco engineer. It’s a lot though, more than I can explain. Get managed switch and start having LAN parties.

swampdownloader, in I'm new to networking and self-hosting and have no idea where to start.

You already have a pihole. I assume you like it. You could buy a cheap minipc/NUC and set up proxmox on it and learn to set up and configure a second pihole as a virtual machine. Then you’ll have a server running with the ability to expand as needed. You could look into setting up new network gear (like tp-link’s omada) and run the software controller in a VM. Or you could dabble with HomeAssistant and get into smarthome. Or set up a photo management tool like Immich. Like others have said, find a problem you want to solve and use these tools!

@Cooljimy84@lemmy.world avatar

Another one to have a search for is IPFS.

kpw,

All files stored on IPFS are public. It's also incredibly slow and inefficient. You would be better off using BitTorrent.

I have yet to find something that tops Dsub despite how unfinished even Dsub is

tordenflesk, (edited )

Same for me. I only really use dsub/gonic to cache a random selection of my collection, by letting a shuffled playlist play until the cache is full.

So far none of the other apps appear to have this simple function.

clmbmb,

Symphonium tops all, but it’s not even free.

zaphod,
@zaphod@lemmy.ca avatar

Frankly, I’d rather pay a motivated and focused developer if the product is good. And Symfonium is fantastic.

clmbmb,

Agree. That’s why I paid for it.

I am using it to access my navidrome server, works quite well. I also use subtracks, not decided yet which I prefer

Finding raspberry pis have been really hard after 2019. It’s too bad, it’s my favorite single board computer.

MasterInu, in Do any of you have that one service that just breaks constantly? I'd love to love Nextcloud, but it sure makes that difficult at times
@MasterInu@lemmy.world avatar

I must be in the minority. I don’t trust swarm syncing or the cloud.

Fungah,

I’m with you.

Local everything I possibly can.

9488fcea02a9,

Nextcloud can be self hosted… It’s not really “the cloud”. Can be LAN only if you want

marble, in Do any of you have that one service that just breaks constantly? I'd love to love Nextcloud, but it sure makes that difficult at times

I gave up on owncloud just before it became nextcloud because it kept breaking every time I updated it.

Wallabag is similar for me now. I’m stuck on a slightly out of date version because I can’t get newer ones to run. Everything else I self host is painless though.

LordKitsuna, in Do any of you have that one service that just breaks constantly? I'd love to love Nextcloud, but it sure makes that difficult at times

I didn’t realize that next Cloud was so bad, might I recommend people having issues try Seafile? Also open source and I’ve been using it for many years without issues. It doesn’t have as many features and it doesn’t look as shiny but it’s rock solid

Have a random meme from my instance

sebsch,

Nextcloud ist just fine. Using it since more than 7 years now with zero problems

Geert,
@Geert@lemmy.world avatar

I’m having a hard time believing that… There is a difference between being able to fix the update issues every time without problems or having no problems at all. But if so, neat.
