I remember laughing at this one as a kid with my family.

s1ndr0m3, in 5 December 2023

This comic reminds me of a children’s book called “Click, Clack, Moo. Cows That Type” In the story the cows use a typewriter to demand blankets from the farmer. They withhold their milk until the farmer gives in to their demands. At the end of the book the chickens threaten to withhold their eggs.

walden,

I wonder if this is where Chick-fil-A ads got their influence.

I think this is the most terrifying thing he’s ever made… Damn.

rustyredox,

But why did he give the bird of prey more than three front talons? It interferes with suspension of disbelief in this fictional horror. /s

Because nobody ever survived to document this specimen.

pls explain

the_third,

The moment the wheel was invented a dog immediately started running after it. A reference to how some dogs like to chase cars today.

I either hate or love The Far Side. This one hits the spot.

I bought a really old house and some years later an old local guy came in (for completely different reasons), and asked “So you got rid of all the holes?”

And I go “What holes?”

“Yeah the owners some 30 years ago put holes in all the walls to run his train track all over the house.”

It explains a lot.

QuinceDaPence,

So when are you going to put the holes back in?

bstix, (edited )

I don’t. They were patched over by whoever lived here in the meantime.

But it explains why all my walls are patchwork of different materials.

Like I wanted to change the floor and was happily surprised by the old wooden floor, but then there was 2’x2’ part missing where the chimney which was removed in 1930 was… That’s the sort of house.

I’ve been around most of it, but it still surprises me.

QuinceDaPence,

I'd put tile in that 2'x2' part and stick a wood stove there.

But for real, would your life not be better with a house wide model train?

bstix,

Yes it would. Had I known it was already prepared for it, I’d never have repaired the walls.

A question I've had for a while, why spam the current date on these when they were released in the 80s and 90s?

Should it not be the date of release?

LemmyKnowsBest,

I contemplated the same question yesterday and quickly came to the conclusion that the copyright year of each cartoon is already included in the picture, So I’m already satisfied with that.

and to expect OP to research & determine the exact date of original publication would be a lot of pointless effort.

I’m fine with the current modern date being posted on these because we are living in the present and I could easily glance at these and know whether or not I’ve read it before, because oh my gosh it’s seven December and that is right now!

registrert,
@registrert@lemmy.sambands.net avatar

I wondered the same thing a while back so I asked. It’s the date they’re digitally published on the official webpage.

LemmyKnowsBest,

there’s an official web page? does anyone else remember back during at least the first 10 years the internet existed Gary Larson refused to participate and he told everyone DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PUT MY ARTWORK ON THE INTERNET!

And then one day I noticed him resurfacing, someone had introduced him to digital art, he could create and color in his cartoons purely digitally, and he loved it. He said he was just doing it for fun but don’t expect him to make a job of it,

And now I see this, all his old art is being presented on Lemmy and I assumed it was unauthorized by Larson but perhaps he authorizes it now!
