On this day, August 10 1809, Ecuador declared independence the first time (but the rebellion failed). The revolutionaries used a version of the Spanish cross of Burgundy flag with inverted colors.

In the next, more successful revolution in Ecuador, starting in Guayaquil, two other flags were used before joining Gran Colombia and getting a yellow-blue-red triband similar two what is in use today:
Blue-white striped flag with three stars
White flag with blue canton with a white star
