About
Archaeology or archeology[a] is the study of human activity through the recovery and analysis of material culture. The archaeological record consists of artifacts, architecture, biofacts or ecofacts, sites, and cultural landscapes.
Archaeology has various goals, which range from understanding culture history to reconstructing past lifeways to documenting and explaining changes in human societies through time.
The discipline involves surveying, excavation, and eventually analysis of data collected, to learn more about the past. In broad scope, archaeology relies on cross-disciplinary research. Read moreâŠ
Rules
- Donât throw mud. Be kind and remember the human.
- Keep it rooted (on topic).
- No spam.

Hello fellow Cyanide and Happiness fans!
About this community and how I post the comics⊠Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips. Of course these days you can read your favorite comics online instead of a newspaper, but I love the nostalgia of reading the daily comics. Anyway, one of my favorite current comics is Cyanide and Happiness and I will be posting the daily release from their website (explosm.net) and a an extra or two randoms.
Cyanide & Happiness (C&H) is a webcomic created by Rob DenBleyker, Kris Wilson, Dave McElfatrick and Matt Melvin. The comic has been running since 2005 and is published on the website explosm.net along with animated shorts in the same style. Matt Melvin left C&H in 2014, and several other people have contributed to the comic and to the animated shorts⊠Read more: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyanide_%26_Happiness

- You may post comics from others or your own.
- If you are posting a comic of your own, a maximum of one per week is allowed (I know, your comics are great, but this rule helps avoid spam).
- The comic can be in any language, but if itâs not in English, OP must include an English translation in the postâs âbodyâ field (note: you donât need to select a specific language when posting a comic).

Hello fellow Far Side fans!
About this community and how I post the comic strip⊠Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips and one of those was The Far Side. These days of course you find just about anything online including www.thefarside.com where they post several comics a day and I repost them here. Just to note, the date you see in my posts is not the initial release date, but the date they were posted on the website.
The Far Side is a single-panel comic created by Gary Larson and syndicated by Chronicle Features and then Universal Press Syndicate, which ran from December 31, 1979, to January 1, 1995 (when Larson retired as a cartoonist). Its surrealistic humor is often based on uncomfortable social situations, improbable events, an anthropomorphic view of the world, logical fallacies, impending bizarre disasters, (often twisted) references to proverbs, or the search for meaning in life⊠Read more: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Far_Side

Hello fellow Bloom County fans!
About this community and how I post the comic strip⊠The comics are posted in chronological order on the day (usually) they were released. Posting them to match the release date adds a bit of fun and nostalgia to match the experience of reading them in the newspaper for first time. Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips. It really sucked when I missed a day. Only years later, when I got the books was I able to catch up on the missed strips.
Bloom County is an American comic strip by Berkeley Breathed which originally ran from December 8, 1980, until August 6, 1989. It examined events in politics and culture through the viewpoint of a fanciful small town in Middle America, where children often have adult personalities and vocabularies and where animals can talk. On July 12, 2015, Breathed started drawing Bloom County again. The first revived strip was published via Facebook on July 13, 2015⊠Read more: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloom_County

Rules
The rules may be more established as time goes on, but itâs important to have a foundation to work on.
1. Follow the rules of Lemmy.world - These rules are the same as Mastodon.worldâs rules, which can be found here.
2. Include a community title and description in your post title. - A following example of this would be New Communities - A place to post new communities all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.
3. Follow the formatting. - The formatting as included below is important for people getting universal links across Lemmy as easily as possible.
Formatting
Please include this following format in your post:
[link text](/c/community@instance.com)
This provides a link that should work across instances, but in some cases it wonât
You should also include either:
or instance.com/c/community
FAQ:
Q: Why do I get a 404?
A: At least one user in an instance needs to search for a community before it gets fetched. Searching for the community will bring it into the instance and it will fetch a few of the most recent posts without comments. If a user is subscribed to a community, then all of the future posts and interactions are now in-sync.
Q: When I try to create a post, the circle just spins forever. Why is that?
A: This is a current known issue with large communities. Sometimes it does get posted, but just continues spinning, but sometimes it doesnât get posted and continues spinning. If it doesnât actually get posted, the best thing to do is try later. However, only some people seem to be having this problem at the moment.

garfield
@garfield@lemmy.world
Hello fellow Garfield fans!
Garfield is an American comic strip created by Jim Davis. Originally published locally as Jon in 1976, then in nationwide syndication from 1978 as Garfield, it chronicles the life of the title character Garfield the cat, his human owner Jon Arbuckle, and Odie the dog. As of 2013, it was syndicated in roughly 2,580 newspapers and journals and held the Guinness World Record for being the worldâs most widely syndicated comic strip⊠Read more: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garfield

starwarsmemes
@starwarsmemes@lemmy.world
Hello there. Somehow, Star Wars memes have returned. Itâs not a trap, this is where the fun begins.
==========
Other universes to visit:
Separatist systems:
Oh hey some real SW content for a change (perhaps):
==========
IMPORTANT
Please do not post the âgood friendâ or similar copypasta
==========
Our galactic citizens have requested more specific rules, so here are a few.
The general idea is, if youâre looking here for rules, youâre probably someone who doesnât need to have them spelled out. Youâre fine. But anyway:
- This is a community for Star Wars memes. This means typically screenshots of Star Wars media with some text or context thatâs meant to be funny and/or thoughtful. All SW media is welcome: movies, games, comic books, fanart⊠Other kinds of content, like video links or meta memes (about this community, or Lemmy), are fine as well, just keep it on topic.
- We are all friends here, and love (sometimes love to hate) Star Wars. Be nice to each other.
- As fans of fictional media, we can be passionate. If you very strongly disagree with something or someone, take a deep breath before reacting. Anger leads to the dark side!
- Everything in Star Wars has happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, and itâs a rich universe of millions of words and millions of years of history. So current Earthly matters really shouldnât concern us here. In other words, leave politics, philosophies and convictions behind the door. This applies even if itâs about something related to Star Wars.
- Original content is preferred. Reposts are fine, just please limit to a maximum of 3 per day, per citizen. It is recommended, but not required, to mark original memes as (OC) and reposts as (repost).
- Local mods are the Jedi council. They may take actions that are necessary to maintain peace and stability of the Republic, even beyond the rules outlined here. Follow their guidance.
- Regular rules of the Lemmy.world instance apply.
