From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word “Linux” in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Rules

  • Posts must be relevant to operating systems running the Linux kernel. GNU/Linux or otherwise.
  • No misinformation
  • No NSFW content
  • No hate speech, bigotry, etc

@fuck_cars@lemmy.ml

This community exists as a sister community/copycat community to the r/fuckcars subreddit.

This community exists for the following reasons:

  • to raise awareness around the dangers, inefficiencies and injustice that can come from car dependence.
  • to allow a place to discuss and promote more healthy transport methods and ways of living.

You can find the Matrix chat room for this community here.

Rules

  1. **Be nice to each other.**Being aggressive or inflammatory towards other users will get you banned. Name calling or obvious trolling falls under that. Hate cars, hate the system, but not people. While some drivers definitely deserve some hate, most of them didn’t choose car-centric life out of free will.
  2. **No bigotry or hate.**Racism, transphobia, misogyny, ableism, homophobia, chauvinism, fat-shaming, body-shaming, stigmatization of people experiencing homeless or substance users, etc. are not tolerated. Don’t use slurs. You can laugh at someone’s fragile masculinity without associating it with their body. The correlation between car-culture and body weight is not an excuse for fat-shaming.
  3. **Stay on-topic.**Submissions should be on-topic to the externalities of car culture in urban development and communities globally. Posting about alternatives to cars and car culture is fine. Don’t post literal car fucking.
  4. **No traffic violence.**Do not post depictions of traffic violence. NSFW or NSFL posts are not allowed. Gawking at crashes is not allowed. Be respectful to people who are a victim of traffic violence or otherwise traumatized by it. News articles about crashes and statistics about traffic violence are allowed. Glorifying traffic violence will get you banned.
  5. **No reposts.**Before sharing, check if your post isn’t a repost. Reposts that add something new are fine. Reposts that are sharing content from somewhere else are fine too.
  6. **No misinformation.**Masks and vaccines save lives during a pandemic, climate change is real and anthropogenic - and denial of these and other established facts will get you banned. False or highly speculative titles will get your post deleted.
  7. **No harassment.**Posts that (may) cause harassment, dogpiling or brigading, intentionally or not, will be removed. Please do not post screenshots containing uncensored usernames. Actual harassment, dogpiling or brigading is a bannable offence.

Please report posts and comments that violate our rules.

  1. Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, ableist, or advocating violence will be removed.

  3. Spam, self promotion, trolling, and bots are not allowed

Regarding spoilers; Please put “(Spoilers)” in the title of your post if you anticipate spoilers, as we do not currently have a spoiler tag available. As far as how long to wait until the post is no longer a spoiler, please just use your best judgement. Everyone has a different idea on this, so we don’t want to make any hard limits.

Please use spoiler tags whenever commenting a spoiler in a non-spoiler thread. Most of the Lemmy clients don’t support this but we want to get into the habit as clients will be supporting in the future.

Who are we?

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data – legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they’re sure it’s done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

We are one. We are legion. And we’re trying really hard not to forget.

@mensliberation@lemmy.ca

This community is first and foremost a feminist community for men and masc people, but it is also a place to talk about men’s issues with a particular focus on intersectionality.

Rules

Everybody is welcome, but this is primarily a space for men and masc people— Non-masculine perspectives are incredibly important in making sure that the lived experiences of others are present in discussions on masculinity, but please remember that this is a space to discuss issues pertaining to men and masc individuals. Be kind, open-minded, and take care that you aren’t talking over men expressing their own lived experiences. —

Be productive— Be proactive in forming a productive discussion. Constructive criticism of our community is fine, but if you mainly criticize feminism or other people’s efforts to solve gender issues, your post/comment will be removed. Keep the following guidelines in mind when posting: * Build upon the OP * Discuss concepts rather than semantics * No low effort comments * No personal attacks —

Assume good faith— Do not call other submitters’ personal experiences into question. —

No bigotry— Slurs, hate speech, and negative stereotyping towards marginalized groups will not be tolerated. —

No brigading— Do not participate if you have been linked to this discussion from elsewhere. Similarly, links to elsewhere on the threadiverse must promote constructive discussion of men’s issues. —

Assume good faith. Give other posters the benefit of the doubt, but report them if you genuinely believe they are trolling. Don’t whine about “politics.”

5. Tag spoilers.

Historically Daystrom has not had a spoiler policy, so you may encounter untagged spoilers here. Ultimately, avoiding online discussion until you are caught up is the only certain way to avoid spoilers.

6. Stay on-topic.

Threads must discuss Star Trek. Comments must discuss the topic raised in the original post.

Welcome to the Grand Chamber of Renaissance Jest!

Pray, revel 'mongst ye memes and discourse of the Renaissance age (Anno 1350 to Anno 1600).

Heed this decree, ye merry souls of jest, Who venture forth in time’s wide gallery: Should one amongst ye post images bereft Of Renaissance’s rich tapestry, Prepare! For in the comment halls below, Shall olden fruits and vegetables grow. 🍎🍐🥕🌽

The squashes ripe, and turnips of yore, 🥔🍆 Shall fill the chambers of discourse more, A reminder quaint of the era we adore. So keep thy imagery within the bound Of time’s rich veil, where our mirth is found

Herein, we adhere to the noble statutes of Feddit.UK:

  • Abstain from the shadowed realms of racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or xenophobia.
  • Engage not in the incitement of violence, nor harbour violent ideologies within this hall.
  • Harass, dog pile, or doxx not your fellow revellers, for such acts shall not be suffered.
  • Share not the brew of falsehood or misleading concoctions within these walls.
  • Spam or abuse of the network’s boon, engage in not, for such acts befit not a gentle soul.

Rejoice in the spirit of enlightenment and mirth, as we journey 'cross the ages of yore.
