Really? I knew it was old but didn’t realize it was THAT old. The more you know…

That’s just not fair, it’s also the place old people go to get their news propaganda.

0110010001100010, to selfhosted in Do any of you have that one service that just breaks constantly? I'd love to love Nextcloud, but it sure makes that difficult at times
@0110010001100010@lemmy.world avatar

Any guidance on this? I looked into Synthing at one time to backup Android phones and got overwhelmed very quickly. I’d love to use it in a similar fashion to NextCloud for syncing between various computers too.

0110010001100010, to selfhosted in Can I build a NAS out of a desktop? [Request]
@0110010001100010@lemmy.world avatar

No reason why not. May be a little power-hungry depending on the spec but if you already have it go for it. FreeNAS (now TrueNAS) is the usually suggested OS to run: www.truenas.com/freenas/

Since you have 4 HDD slots probably run 4 disks in a RAID 5 so think of how much space you need. RAID 5 is n-1 so if you have 4x 10TB drives you will be left with 30TB of space before formatting. You can calculate here: www.raid-calculator.com

Then either mirror the SSDs for OS and caching or just use one. Depends on your budget really.

I’ll second this. I hate "normal "golf but Top Golf is pretty fun. I like being able to get food and drinks too. It is quite pricey though so I don’t go very often (unless someone else is paying, lol). The first time I tried it was a vendor-sponsored event and I was like “huh, that’s kinda fun actually.”

0110010001100010, to asklemmy in Is it just my circle, or has it been a challenge getting into the Christmas/holiday spirit the last couple of years?
@0110010001100010@lemmy.world avatar

For instance - putting away same old decorations and reusing them should lower consumerism somewhat.

Wait, do people NOT do this? I use the same shit every year unless it’s broken and I can’t fix it. Usually my cats are in some way to blame for that.

0110010001100010, to gaming in You know what? I'll just wait...
@0110010001100010@lemmy.world avatar

If you’re in the minority I’m there with you. I just want to play offline story mode. I have exactly ZERO desire to play GTA or RDR online.

I will say, the RDR2 world was significantly more immersive than GTA V was (though there was a lot of years between them). I actually wanted to explore the world and uncover all the random shit. With GTA V yeah it was fun to drive around and blow shit up but there wasn’t really engaging content outside the story.

I’ll be curious what GTA VI holds, but I’m not going to pre-order or even purchase on day one. I’ll wait and see how things go.

0110010001100010, to mildlyinteresting in This fast food order kiosk accepts cash
@0110010001100010@lemmy.world avatar

I always carry cash, probably around $100. Not enough that it would be a problem if I got mugged but plenty if I hit a point where I need something essential (food/fuel) to get home or something. I also keep a $20 in the car for fuel if I somehow forget my wallet and run low.

Granted, I only ever use it in a pinch, might as well get the rewards on my credit card instead. But I do on occasion hit a restaurant/store where their internet is down and it’s cash-only.
