520,

2023 was the best year for me in a long time. Got a neat promotion and a marry-worthy partner :)

Is there an artist so horrible that no matter how hard you try that you cannot separate their art from them?

Similar to the recent question about artists where you can successfully separate them from their art. Are there any artists who did something so horrible, so despicable, that it has instantly invalidated all art that they have had any part in?

Yes, but Thailand is not the entire world, nor was it even the target audience of those tweets.

In the west, when you transition to another gender, it is because you want to identify as that gender. Thus when you say shit like 'trans women aren't real women' you're denying the identity of thousands of women worldwide.

They mean people born with female bodies. So Cis women or FtM men.

520,

I do get what you mean, it's oversimplifying a complicated subject.

520, (edited )

We are talking about a western author broadcasting on a western platform in a western language, often directly in response to other westerners or western ideas of transsexuality. Makes it pretty clear who the target audience and culture is.

520, (edited )

This may come as a shock to you, but a lot of westerners don’t believe in transexuality either.

Hey, we’re talking about one right now!

No, they believe that transsexuals are heathen abominations that should be stripped of all human rights and dignity. There is a difference.

Try to understand your way of life is not the only, or even the best, way of life.

Try to understand that your way of life should not get in the way of others trying to enjoy theirs when it doesn't harm other people.

520,

I mean with Cheeto-man the jokes just write themselves

520,

Not OP but in theory it shouldn't do, at least not for comics like this.

Parody is considered fair use under US copyright law.

520,

All true, hence I say in theory.

Tiptoes, a movie about small (dwarfism) love where they cast Gary Oldman in the role of a lifetime.

Microsoft Office.

The subscription service is actually alright for businesses, but for retail users there is no compelling reason for it to be a subscription.

First time? Use Ubuntu. Not only is it easy to use and a good UX overall, most tutorials assume a Ubuntu based distro (there are differences between distros that can be...hard to translate over). That's going to be really useful when you're looking up how to do stuff

520, (edited )

The default UX used in Ubuntu may actually be confusing for newbies, as it’s quite different compared to Windows.

It's not that different, dude, and it's not like they don't give you a tutorial on first boot either.

Perhaps a distro which uses KDE, XFCE, Cinnamon, MATE or LXQt by default.

Gauge your audience dude. A Linux newbie will not know wtf anything you just named is. (For any other newbies reading, these are all 'desktop environments' - essentially collections of programs that make up a user interface)

Side dock, top panel, lack of a “start” menu are already three immediately visible differences, and you claim it’s not that different?

The side dock is a taskbar except on the left hand side. Big whoop. Top panel is basically the system tray as seen on Windows, with all functionality fairly obvious just by looking at it, and there is infact a start button where you can type in the program name you're looking for, just like most people do in Windows. Not exactly MacOS levels of relearning.

Which is EXACTLY why I mentioned them, so that they can Google it.

Or...you can explain what you are talking about. Like I did for you. Sending newbies off on wild Google chases is not helpful.

520,

Why not?

520,

The people that shat themselves over Windows 8 probably aren't the kind of people to experiment with a new OS.

520,

Helps a cop gain evidence against a perp.

"You're on this medication, we got it from X pharmacy. You shouldn't have been driving while on it, should you?"

Because software development in a corporate environment relies on milestones, deadlines and guarantees. Open source, which relies on volunteer work, doesn't do this well.

520,

Might also be a shot at the Gadsden Flag, which features a coiled rattlesnake and the words 'dont tread on me'

520, (edited )

Not exactly. Electricity aside, servers also require maintenance. That requires server admins. Those don't come cheap.

Edit: also network costs. With the requirement of handling high user numbers at stupidly low latency levels, they'll need a seperate internet connection from corp and the data service will also not be cheap.

Depends at what level you define 'console'.

Is it a device purpose built for playing games? Yes.

Does it have its own bespoke gaming platform? No. It plays games and applications made for the x86 PC platform.

520,

If I had it my way this is exactly how it would work.

Alas, even non-Valve PC games are moving away from that model unfortunately.

Spooky season is when ghosts come out. The main enemy in pacman is ghosts

The problem there is the same as that of idealised communism, you're relying on humans to do what they typically don't do. Humans will take for themselves at the cost of communities if they feel they can get away with it, including the ones in government.
