520,

This wasn't carelessness. This was a deliberate.

To be fair to those two:

  • Mitnick did much what he did before hacking was even a crime, and almost all of it before offensive cybersecurity was even a viable career option.
  • the damage caused by the entirety of ShadowCrew (4000 odd members) was a drop in the bucket compared to that caused by this single kid
  • neither of them had compulsion issues that would cause them to attempt to hack even while under surveillance.

They aren't talking about his autism. They're talking about his compulsion to do these acts. People, even autistics, don't go as far as he did to hack things while already under surveillance. That isn't an autism thing, something else is there.

520,

Am a professional pentester/red teamer. You hit the nail on the head.

Pentesting is not all about the shit you can hack. A big part of it is presenting a professional face that suits can trust.

That is fundamentally incompatible with compulsively attacking and leaking billions of dollars worth of shit

Mostly true in normal cases. If you’re really talented there is a market for you, always.

In this case, that market is the black market. In the regular market, no head of security wants to be responsible for a potential critical breach by hiring such a wild cannon.

His only possible path would have been to show remorse after the attacks. He shot that in the ass, or at least made his job much harder in that respect, by pulling another attack while in police custody.

520,

I mean with Cheeto-man the jokes just write themselves

First time? Use Ubuntu. Not only is it easy to use and a good UX overall, most tutorials assume a Ubuntu based distro (there are differences between distros that can be...hard to translate over). That's going to be really useful when you're looking up how to do stuff

520,

Helps a cop gain evidence against a perp.

"You're on this medication, we got it from X pharmacy. You shouldn't have been driving while on it, should you?"

Because software development in a corporate environment relies on milestones, deadlines and guarantees. Open source, which relies on volunteer work, doesn't do this well.

520,

Bro, not every Indian is a scammer that calls you pretending to be from Microsoft.

Get your head out of your ass.

520,

Kinda. Publishers often found arcade difficulty spikes useful in home console games because it would mask how little content there was. Super Mario Bros could be beaten in an hour or two by most people if the lives system didn't send you all the way back to the beginning of the game when you ran out.

520,

Kindle jailbreaking isn't strictly required, especially if all you want to do is sideload books. It's more about if you want homebrew, other customisation options or you just wanna get rid of ads without paying.

The airplane mode is because Amazon has a habit of updating the kindle without your permission.

Dude, being privacy oriented was not where you fucked up.

You fucked up by lying to her and coming up with some half assed cover story rather than just saying 'i don't really use it.' That is bullshit behaviour, makes you look extremely untrustworthy, and would end in her rejecting you no matter your stance on traditional social media.

You are confusing social life activity with social media engagement activity.

520,

Doesn't work. Most copyright bots will incorrectly label your music as something else to get their strike in.

Z-Library Blog: "Unprecedented seizure of our domains with books on rare languages" (z-library.se)

Today we are forced to share some sad news - yesterday many of our domains were seized again. We should highlight that the majority of the seized domains were not mirrors of the Z-Library website. Instead, they were separate sub-projects, containing only books in rare languages of the world, and their blocking is perplexing. For...

Torrents suck for things that aren't all that popular. Once the last seeder stops seeding, that torrent is useless.

520,

More like Bobby Hill with another 15 years left.

Piracy is Preservation (feddit.de)

Image description: a screenshot from the Wikipedia page for the Doctor Who TV series, with a user-added caption that reads “Preserve the media you can before it’s gone forever.” The Wikipedia article reads, “No 1960s episodes exist on their original videotapes (all surviving prints being film transfers), though some were...

That I would agree... But they're excellent for getting fileless reverse shell on a victim's machine

520,

It is open source but you can’t publish modified code (this is to ensure there will be no malicious forks like there was with newpipe)

  1. that is not open source. That is source available.
  2. because we all know that license agreements are a line that trojan distributors will not cross. Not malware distribution, not hacking laws, but copyright infringement. They'd never do that at all.

It is a general obstacle. Cancer cells are basically normal cells have mutated in such a way that they a) still survive, b) subdivide rampantly and c) fly under the radar of white blood cells, which normally pick up and deal with said anomalies before they become a problem.

So the trick is about getting white blood cells to detect amd attack anomalies that it previously wouldn't, while not attacking healthy cells.

520,

I'm sure the cutting of water and electricity to an entire population was something the Israelis were forced to do too...

520,

Add 'dont use your computer or phone while naked' to the list. Spyware riddled machines with webcams can also be how these nudes come about.

520,

You won't care, but your employer might, to the point where they fire you. Your partner might, to the point where they leave you. Your overbearing family members might, to the point where they put out an 'honour killing' hit on you, or do the deed themselves.
