I fully agree with you, but Framework is definitely not Linux-first. The only OS they offer preloaded on their laptops is Windows. You have to install Linux yourself if you want it.

I bet your search history is interesting

I don't know where you're from, but asking about where one lives (in very general terms, such as city and state) is a common thing to do while striking up friendly conversation here in the US. Your response gives us cultural context and may reveal shared experiences.

No one who asks, "Where you from?" is asking for your street address.

Ending support for Windows 10 could send 240 million computers to the landfill. Why not install Linux on them? (gadgettendency.com)

With support ending for Windows 10, the most popular desktop operating system in the world currently, possibly 240 million pcs may be sent to the landfill. This is mostly due to Windows 11’s exorbitant requirements. This will most likely result in many pcs being immediately outdated, and prone to viruses. GNU/Linux may be...

The problem is most people don't have the technical ability or interest in switching to Linux. Here is the solution:

  1. We, as Linux users, must be better advocates for the platform to untechnical people.
  2. We should make ourselves available to help people make the transition.

Build quality on Frameworks is dramatically better than most ThinkPads. They've made a lot of improvements to battery life since the first generation (I got mine in the second batch), so it might have decent battery life now. They've always been more efficient on Linux than on Windows.

The Fediverse is heavily far left-leaning. The far left is anti-Israel, and thus so are most Fediverse users.

BaldProphet,
@BaldProphet@kbin.social avatar

Oh, I see. My guess is poor moderation.

Many people expressing support for Palestine and warning about genocide in Gaza are using talking points created by Hamas that call for the elimination of the state of Israel.

BaldProphet,
@BaldProphet@kbin.social avatar

There's nothing colonial about Israel. If anything, it is a reclamation of a displaced people of its original land. It has attempted repeatedly to compromise with the Palestinians, but nothing short of genocide against it appeals to them. They have outright rejected all attempts at political compromise, even though Israel was originally under no obligation to compromise with them.

  1. Israel didn't kick the Arabs out, Britain did.
  2. Jews are the original inhabitants of the Land of Israel. A more correct analogy would be a bunch of Aztecs walking into Mexico City, being granted a small part of it by Mexico, and then Mexico forcibly evicting all non-Aztecs from that area.

Go further back, even. The UN Partition Plan for Palestine in 1947 would have given Palestine its own territory, splitting it with Israel 45/55. The Arab League and Arab Higher Committee of Palestine both rejected it.

It's not like compromises have never been offered. The Arabs have simply never been willing to accept anything less than the expulsion of the Jews from the territory.

BaldProphet,
@BaldProphet@kbin.social avatar

Dude. Hamas is a terror organization, not a resistance force.

BaldProphet,
@BaldProphet@kbin.social avatar

Palestine has been given plenty of chances. They just choose to reject any compromise that doesn't involve the expulsion of the Jews from the Holy Land.

BaldProphet,
@BaldProphet@kbin.social avatar

Sorry, I was wrong. They want to "obliterate" the Jews, not expel them. When talking about genocide, it's important to specify the correct flavor.

https://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/hamas.asp

Regardless, they have multiple times rejected concessions and compromises that would have enabled them to have an independent democratic nation. If that's truly what they wanted, why would they always pass on the opportunity to get it without bloodshed?

BaldProphet,
@BaldProphet@kbin.social avatar

Israel is a legitimate state. Hamas has no interest in governance and exists solely to (in its own words) "obliterate" Israel.

Here's a quote from the same document:

The following are considered null and void: the Balfour Declaration, the British Mandate Document, the UN Palestine Partition Resolution, and whatever resolutions and measures that derive from them or are similar to them. The establishment of “Israel” is entirely illegal and contravenes the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and goes against their will and the will of the Ummah; it is also in violation of human rights that are guaranteed by international conventions, foremost among them is the right to self-determination.

...

Hamas believes that no part of the land of Palestine shall be compromised or conceded, irrespective of the causes, the circumstances and the pressures and no matter how long the occupation lasts. Hamas rejects any alternative to the full and complete liberation of Palestine, from the river to the sea.

Seems pretty clear to me.

banning and defederating communities

Hey all, I recently left reddit like many of you. I have a question regarding lemmy and the fediverse on the history of banning and defederation. I have noticed several posts calling for varying communities to be disconnected. were these removal requests as prevalent before the mass migration? Usually I am all for communities...

BaldProphet,
@BaldProphet@kbin.social avatar

Seems to be popular to defederate from right-leaning instances. The Fediverse basically started as a far-left stronghold, so it isn't surprising.

BaldProphet,
@BaldProphet@kbin.social avatar

A lot of people in the Fediverse don't seem to appreciate the concept that the political left is just as capable of intolerance and extremism as the political right.

BaldProphet,
@BaldProphet@kbin.social avatar

I'm not talking about parties, I'm talking about the political spectrum. There is no "Right-Wing Party", nor is there a "Left-Wing Party". Conservatives and liberals can be found in both of the actual dominant American parties.

Haha another unfriendly troll rears its ugly head. Goodbye.
