BreakDecks,

I didn’t care about software freedom very much until after I switched to Linux, so I’ll keep recommending Linux to anyone willing to listen.

BreakDecks,

I guess part of software freedom, for me, is that I don’t care what other people choose to do, I just use and recommend Linux and other open source software wherever I can.

Absolutely wild that you’d purity test people and recommend against them using Linux just because they wouldn’t be using it for the reason you want them to…

BreakDecks,

Linux is useless except for software freedom.

Alright, I take it back. With a sales pitch this bad, it’s maybe a good thing for you to hold back on the Linux evangelism.

BreakDecks,

He deserved (past tense) all that opportunity before he proved his willingness to use it to do damage. Given his dedication to committing crime, I can’t imagine who would ever trust him enough to want his talents.

After 23 years, developer reveals he snuck a cheat code past Sony that turns a cult-classic horror game into a godsend for retro enthusiasts (www.gamesradar.com)

Article about a recent revelation by the Youtube Channel Modern Vintage Gaming: The game “Alien Resurrection” by Argonaut contains a code which allows to run burned CD copies of Playstation 1 games.

BreakDecks,

Which is silly for scalpers to try to profit off of this. You may get some short-term profits, but there are plenty of ways to circumvent copy protection on PS1 that are much cheaper and easier to work with than this.

It’s also seemingly just an experiment that a dev decided to sneak into the game, so there’s no guarantee that the loaded game will actually play reliably.

I’ll wait for the hype to cool off and some real data about performance to exist before I consider buying it.

Ending support for Windows 10 could send 240 million computers to the landfill. Why not install Linux on them? (gadgettendency.com)

With support ending for Windows 10, the most popular desktop operating system in the world currently, possibly 240 million pcs may be sent to the landfill. This is mostly due to Windows 11’s exorbitant requirements. This will most likely result in many pcs being immediately outdated, and prone to viruses. GNU/Linux may be...

BreakDecks,

A lot of businesses. I’ve stocked an entire network lab out of waste bins from buildings with tech companies in them. Laptops, monitors, network gear, cabling. I once scored a whole box of 100W USB-C chargers.

You could make a living reselling stuff online.

BreakDecks,

They said “600 km above the Moon”, so assuming that the laptops are 2.5mm thick, and stacked on the surface of the moon…

BreakDecks,

Calling people pathetic for looking at porn is pretty much textbook “pretending to be superior”…

Glass houses or what have you.

BreakDecks,

If only there was some system in place where police could verify their authority somehow.

BreakDecks,

I got through page 1 and this conversation has already gone too far. I don’t know if I’m emotionally ready for page 2, much less all 5.

BreakDecks,

Neither party is in the right. Israel is a violent apartheid state, and Palestine is large ruled by a terrorist organization. Both Israelis and Palestinians have the right to exist, but neither side’s leadership respects each other’s existence.

The victims in all of this are both the Israeli and Palestinian citizens, so taking a side isn’t really a sound option. I am failing to see anyone who aligns as pro-Israel or pro-Palestine make coherent arguments about what happened this week. The only reasonable alignment is to be anti-war, anti-terrorism, and anti-apartheid.
