The Lord of the Rings. I get goosebumps every time.

Reply with your favorite moment. There’s lots of them in the trilogy.

Mushroom: “Yeah? What’s up?”

Owner Class: “Watch out! That White Tree is trying to steal your nutrients.”

Mushroom: “…”

Mushroom: (•ˋ _ ˊ•)

White Tree: “Whoa hang on there, fun guy. I’m not trying to steal your nutrients. I worked hard for these, I deserve my share.”

Mushroom: “Let’s fight, bitch!”

White Tree: “Them’s fighting words! You’re on!”

CatZoomies, to piracy in Do you utilize a dedicated AV like Bitdefender when sailing? Or do you still trust Windows Defender to take care of the higher risk while doing this?
@CatZoomies@lemmy.world avatar

I set my VPN to Russia. Russian viruses are known to not infect their homeland, by design. They promised they wouldn’t, so you know it’s good. I then run the program, and sometimes my CPU starts heating up and slowing down my computer a bit. It happens anytime I turn on my computer now that I think about it. Computer is always running slow. I guess that’s the CPU checking if the viruses are Russian and then rejecting their requests. I can verify this because when I open Task Manager, I don’t see anything showing high CPU usage. It’s probably my imagination since the thing is doing what it’s supposed to be doing and stopping the viruses.

Only downside is I occasionally get a random command prompt pop up that disappears immediately before I can read it. Plus, my identity has been stolen several times and I’ve had to get ahold of Macrosoft Support (they built Windows so I trust them) and buy their premium $500 virus total scam defender package that I pay for monthly, but I don’t think those are related.

CatZoomies, (edited ) to memes in The best part of driving a shitbox is that I don't have to care too much about it.
@CatZoomies@lemmy.world avatar

I used to think a slightly different way when I was younger. That these bad drivers needed to be taught a lesson. I would always catch up to them at a red light and shake my head no in disapproval and do a thumbs down.

Then one day a driver I did that to stuck his hand out the window and waved a handgun in my direction. Looks like he had something to prove and wanted to teach me a lesson, too.

Lesson learned: no matter what, you never, ever try to shame, scold, escalate, or “teach a lesson” to another driver. Ever. You have no idea what that person may do, and how quickly they can end your life. Would be a shame for you to wind up on the news as a dead person and your family to learn you were killed due to road rage.

Over a decade since that incident, I’m married and would never do such a thing. If I had children, especially when in my car, I’d hate for them to see negative/retaliation behavior come from me - or worse, for them to see me exhibit any kind of road rage. I’m now older, wiser, and a much safer driver and better human being all around.

Granted if someone tried a hit and run, I’d be on the phones with the cops and would follow them from a distance enough to get a good description and tag numbers.

Edit: Yes, I’m American. How did you know?

Millennial here. I’ve heard from the younger folks that it means something like “no lie”, or “I swear this is true”.

Being out of touch, I’m not sure if this is synonymous with “deadass”.

Make sure you highlight this in your one on one discussions with your manager and get compensated. You’re doing two jobs- your employer should not be taking advantage of you. Get paid my friend.

Mushroom and White Trees hold out their “hands”.

Owner Class trickles a pittance of nutrients on Mushroom only.

White Trees: “… Wait, what?! How come Mushroom got this?”

Mushroom: “Yeah that’s weird. Let’s go ask Owner Class what happened!”

Owner Class: “WTF? That’s so weird! Hey, Mushroom! What happened here? Why did you get some nutrients and White Trees didn’t get any?!”

Mushroom: “Hey, I deserve this! I worked so hard this season, I have to eat, too!”

White Trees: “Give us some!”

Mushroom: “Make me!”

Check your local library. I used to visit my local library a lot before the pandemic when I lived closer to one. I borrowed audiobooks all the time and ripped them to my PC.

Aurorus, the evolved form of Amaura. First appeared in X/Y Kalos region if I recall correctly.

CatZoomies, (edited ) to piracy in What VPN do you use and why?
@CatZoomies@lemmy.world avatar

While people sometimes suggest ignoring it because they say that your ISP is only sending you those notices because the laws compel them to and you downloaded something that was tracked, you may want to evaluate your risk.

Nothing has happened so far. Could something happen in the future?

Your ISP has built an entire portfolio of the things you’ve done online and which content you pirated. Who know how long your ISP retains that data, or which companies or regulatory bodies it shares this data with?

Laws may change.

Up to you on what you want to do with this information.

CatZoomies, to asklemmy in Which books have the worst video adaptation?
@CatZoomies@lemmy.world avatar

Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Especially the second movie, Sea of Monsters.

Thank goodness the TV show is coming in December. Rick Riordan, the author, has personally been overseeing the production. I have high confidence the tv series will be much closer to the books. Hopefully this will do well enough that future seasons will be funded and we’ll get seasons that adapt the rest of the books.

Such a masterpiece comedy. My favorite part of that O.J. Simpson scene is while getting shot multiple times and injured, he gets paint on his jacket and says “Oh no”. So silly, but I love it.

That’s awesome - well done! Reminded me of something else, story below.

For anyone that watched MythBusters, you’re probably aware the two main hosts, Adam and Jaimie, didn’t like each other because they were two different clashing personalities and tough to work with. There was a pirate myths episode, and Adam went all out dressing as a pirate and using a very heavy faux-pirate accent. Jaimie was laughing so hard during that scene that his whole head was red! One of the most endearing moments of the show, and something I treasure because this show was so influential for me growing up.

Props to anyone like @Vanth that makes the normally serious person laugh!
